eBay Plus: Learn from my mistake (returns)

Sharing in case this is helpful and saves someone a headache, learn from my mistake.

When you buy with eBay plus and need to take advantage of their 30 day returns, ALWAYS ASK THEM FOR A FREE RETURN LABEL EVEN IF THEIR OWN PROCESS TELLS YOU THAT YOU NEED TO COVER THE RETURN SHIPPING AND SEEK REIMBURSEMENT.

What happened:

I bought a pair of shoes using the eBay Plus Free Trial. They didn't fit so I initiated a return. Their return asked me to send the shoes over and pay for shipping. So I did that.

Then when self-reporting that I returned, I saw no option whatsoever to report my shipping charges. So I contacted eBay support and they lady made it sound like it was my responsbility for me to know that I can request a free return label even though all their workflows were telling me to ship it on my dime and seek reimbursement.

They couldn't help me on the spot with this, am supposed to wait for them to come back to me on how I can be refunded the shipping charges.

This really made me appreciate Amazon and their returns. Can't believe they have a workflow and somehow I am to know to ignore their own workflow and contact them to override it…

eBay has never let me down with an issue, you'll get your refund, don't worry.

Ty Sir, hopefully this will be the case. The support person gave me no confidence and straight up made me angry how she implied it's my responsibility to question their own workflows and seek a workaround in the form of requesting a free return label.

      • It's true their support staff can be very hit and miss. It's an international call centre so their staff aren't always familiar with Australian consumer law, I've had to push back once or twice but I've always had my issue sorted out in the end

  • Just use Amazon.

    • Yeah, long-term Amazon customer, but you see eBay deals on ozb from time to time, this was one of them.

LOL Does a change of mind return as they ordered the wrong size, then complains about not getting free returns!

    • Reread my post with comprehension, other people seem to understand it, your reply doesnt hold qny logic.

      • No I read it, you ordered the wrong size and are now complaining the seller didn't give you free return as part of their returns process for a change of mind return as you didn't use the eBay plus returns process to get the free label as you are meant to.

Maybe im used to normal workflows with Amazon. I signed up for ebay plus which is supposed to have easy returns. I then proceed to return an item i bought and am told to cover shipping and get money back. To then be told i should have ignored what ebay said there and requested a fr3e return label. In amazon or any place with normal and logical backend/workflows/ui, i should have gotten the option about the free return label when i was requestinf the return. Not get some other workflow that i should somehow know i need to challenge.

          • @FurioG: I think what really happened is you initiated the return with the seller only, and forgot about ebay plus entirely. The seller has nothing to do with ebay plus policies.

It seems this could have all been avoided if you simply ordered the correct size shoe

Not sure how many shoes you buy, you can order your usual size in one brand and it can not fot properly, especially with things like slides. Its also beyond the point also, i was warning people against a poor returns experience, reason for return is irrelevant for the purposes od my post.
