Grilled Chicken Burrito $10 in-Store on National Burrito Day @ Zambrero

710

Saw this deal pop up in my email inbox. Unsure if Guzman y Gomez and Mad Mex are doing something similar but fingers crossed they do so we have more options as the two other chains are much closer to me in terms of distance.

PSA: Leave your packed lunch at home tomorrow and enjoy a Grilled Chicken burrito for just $10* at your local Zambrero (in restaurant only).

Smoky, tasty, tender with bold chipotle, mild achiote, our signature Zambrero marinade and a secret blend of spices.

There's no better time to try our new Grilled Chicken. Make sure you're quick, only available tomorrow to celebrate National Burrito Day - Thursday 4 April.

is it just me who hates the new grilled chicken in zambies :(

    • +2

not just you, give them feedback!

      • +7

enough votes and comments and i'll send in a strongly worded email on behalf of the ozb community

        • Screenshot of this interaction should suffice.

    • +2

I like it. But I also like the old recipe.

    • Not just you. I was addicted to the old one, now rarely eat it

  • +12

Not sure how this chain manages to stay afloat, my local is practically always empty.
Bring back the $5 GyG Cinco De Mayo offers!

    • +10

They shut at 9:30pm here and I said you are crazy 10pm or later please. I always get idiots who have never ordered Mexican food in front of me for the takeaway and they take like ten minutes because they have to ask every little thing about every ingredient. Having said that Zamberos Burritos sh*t on GYG both in Price and Taste. IMHO.

    • -2

      100% agree! Zambrero sucks

      • Where do you suggest then when we don’t have. Salsas here. We have a genuine Nexican restaurant but can’t get anything for under $25 unless it’s entree corn chips. I’ve heard go things but man pricey AF.

        • +1

Mad mex or GYG are both better than Zambrero IMO, in terms of Tex-Mex fast food.

    • +7

      Wrong on both counts.
      Taco Bell lowest tier
      Zambrero > McD

      • +5

Guzman is the worst in my opinion, never felt so angry after ordering food from there.

        • +3

We got both a Zambrero and a Guzman right by each other here and I reckon Guzman's burritos are just greasy and nasty compared to Zambrero's. Although Guzman does breakfast burritos too but those are actually good.

          • +7

@Altashi: My biggest gripe with Guzman is the sizes are laughable, about a teaspoon of meat in a stale taco shell and the burritos are all rice. Zambrero is a little on the expensive side also but I'd rather pay more and get something that resembles a meal.

            • +5

@doubleclutching: Get the vegetarian, double beans double rice and guacamole standard/free, they huge & healthier.

Much better, cheaper and fresher than gyg. Mexican food is great flavours you don't miss the meat (or need it for every meal).

            • @doubleclutching: GYG is actually more expensive here than Zamberos. They have two Burrito options and neither of them can you get their salsa with onions which give me reflux / heartburn. Zamberos you can choose to leave the chopped onion out of the mix. I realise it changes the taste but rather pay for their choices of building your own burrito.

            • @doubleclutching: Ask them for half rice. Burritos are smaller though, went to mad mex and $15 burrito is massive.

        • +1

guzman used to be good, but started shrinking portion sizes, made it harder to get sauce (no more self serve near me) and prices went up. id prefer taco bell over them now, pity there are none nearby

  • Make it free and I will think twice. Really bad fast food.

  • +1

The meat is loaded with sugar syrup .. not health at all

  • They changed the chicken? Not sure why they did this, it was great.

My local Zambrero is fantastic and I never understood the hate until I tried Zambrero from another spot. Awful stuff. I've now tried three Zambrero spots, with mixed results. My local continues to be consistent and excellent. For what it's worth, I get the pork and not the chicken.

For me, Zambrero from a good franchise has always been much better than Guzman and Mad Mex for me, which I'm sure comes down to the franchise.

Same goes for Oporto where some are great and others are terrible. Mcdonald's seems to be the most consistent, and even then you get the odd bad day.

Hopefully you can try a good Zambrero but I wouldn't be searching for a good one if I had a bad experience the first time.

Seems like we need a Chipotle.

    • +2

Yeah Zambrero is the only fast mex chain I'll readily go to/out of my way for. Flavours better, more vegetables, mote generous sizes, and the black rice is great. Max Mex hasn't been the same since they got rid of the carne asada (steak) filling years ago, but still better than the rice and cheese burritos that GyG serves up.

  • Thanks OP. Did the email say how to redeem?

    • It is in-store only… they have it displayed in their menu at the store

Man people are so weird about food that is pretty healthy, going mad if there is a mg too much sugar or carbs compared to what they think it should have. But those same people will demolish a pack of Tim Tams or a bag of chips.

  • +1

I must be out of touch if $10 is supposed to be a good price for a burrito!
$15 for the whole family for homemade, using fresh, clean ingredients.

    • +3

$15? How many is a whole family? I doubt you can buy all the ingredients for Mexican for $15.

      • -4

My kids are 5, and 8, 8 yr old eats same as us, 5 yr old not so much, so closer to 3, 3.5 adults.
Costing no probs, but i guess i have things like chili sauces and limes, chillis readily available and beans in cupboard. I also make my own spice mix out of my own spices so no real cost there.
        Chicken/mince $5
        Tomato $1
        Lettuce $1
        Wraps $4
        Avo $1
        Sour cream $1
        Cheese $2

Closer to $20 if buying corn chips and above mentioned 'staples'

        • +6

Where on earth can you buy lettuce for $1, sour cream for $1, and enough meat for four people for $5? I thought I OzB'd my groceries pretty well, but I'd have to pretty much triple those three estimates (granted I have four kids, but still).

          • @ShaneWSmith: Its a meal costing, so just an educated estimate, rounded to $1 to keep it simple.
Based on what amount of product you would use for the meal, so say 1/3 of a lettuce or 1/3 of sour cream, 1 tomato, 1/5 block of cheese, etc
Meat price based on 1 Large chicken breast or 500g of mince which I believe is more than enough for 3.5 of us, but sounds like you would need to double that for your tribe. 😉

Yeh, im a bit older so dont eat out much these days, buy have had gyg couple of times and found it to be quite sloppy. I understand not fair to compare homemade with takeout but at the same time when you have a fam with 2 adults and 2 kids you have to, i mean this "deal" would be at least $40 without sides or drinks.
Regardless i will be making homemade tonight, thanks OP for the inspo. (+1)

  • Zambos good tasty food occasionally immo.
Paid $16+ for my first Hungry Jack's small peppercorn burger meal last week so $10 ok. Was a delicious burger but go medium if u want any fries .

  • I never tried this before (from memory). Don't mind giving it a try. Regular GYG is about $16 so I assume ~$6 saving?

    • +1

This one is $13.90 regular, so it will be $3.90 savings…. So yeah best time to try will be today!

      • Best time to try is when they are free when they open new location!

Didn't bother, realised it's only for that chicken option they are flogging off

      • In my half way and thinking $3.9 might not worth the extra 10 min drive I changed my mind lol. Looks quite close when I checked the map. So next time.

  • +2

$10 is a discount? How much could it possibly cost? (this is rhetorical as I know it's going to be some absurd amount)

    • $14 is standard price for standard size.

  • +2

Zambrero is garbage…I'm not paying $10-15 for 50% lettuce, 20% veges 10% meat in a bowl.
Actually all these burrito bowl places now are garbage…. GYG use to be good when they first opened but everything is tiny now and overpriced.

    • Go and see if you can buy a piece of meat and cook it for a tenner :P.

Even sushi is a rort these days, can't really even get 3 for $10 anymore.

      • +2

Are you seriously arguing that buying takeout is cheaper than cooking at home?

I can buy a piece of meat and veges and make multiple bowls for $20

          • @G-rig: All this talk got me hungry and it was my bday couple of days ago so just got back from an early Free lunch of Large Maccas fries and Hj Whopper ($1for bacon) washed down with a can of coke zero from home.

            I can now afford Zambrero's 😉

              • +1

@G-rig: Lol Nice work. I got the Bundy Campfire(6%), i quite enjoyed it, and my cashback seemed to track. I didn't take the risk with the Kirin as i was concerned offer would be exhausted between buying and claiming.

                • @nepalesesquirrel: Sounds good. Yeah that's true just have to lodge start of the week. 21-22$ is a bit to outlay for a 4 pack so good if don't pay too much.

  • Is it for the whole day?

    • Yes it is for today whole day… please note it is in-store only

      • Thank you!

  • +1

Didn't honour it at my local and they had no idea what I was talking about
