ShopBack Cheating! Be Aware!

I participated in the Myer cashback offer with bonus cashback from Westpac last November. Both the base and bonus cashback tracked initially. However, after a long wait, only the base cashback was approved, while the $30 bonus was rejected. I lodged a dispute, but ShopBack kept telling me they hadn’t heard anything from Westpac in 1.5 months and asked me to continue waiting.

Feeling frustrated, I asked them yesterday, “Do I have to wait forever? Can you take action instead of asking me to wait repeatedly?” A few hours later, I received an update stating that the rejection was due to their system flagging certain usage similarities detected on the device linked to my ShopBack account. When I asked for clarification on these “certain usage similarities,” they did not provide any details.

I’ve been a ShopBack customer for many years since its introduction here in 2018, with hundreds of transactions. I’ve seen many complaints about ShopBack on OzBargain, especially regarding large cashbacks. While I’ve had problems with them before, they were mostly resolved successfully. I am extremely disappointed that ShopBack blamed me for doing something wrong when I did not. Be cautious when dealing with them!

Can you advise me on which government authority would be most appropriate for addressing this issue? Thank you.

It's the vibe of it. It's the Constitution. It's Mabo. It's justice. It's law. It's the vibe and ah, no that's it.

        That makes sense. Cheers Denis.

flagging certain usage similarities detected on the device linked to my ShopBack account.

Sounds like the bonus cashback was for new customers and you weren't.

Did you read the T&Cs ?

Getting the impression Shopback has fallen off lately. The risk of working with them keeps going up with each new drama they fail to address.

    • Doubt it'll improve with the layoffs. Shows inept decision making/foresight by the execs.

    Shocked I tell you…. shocked!!

  • Shop back takes ages at time yes certainly
like the recent dominos ones. I think your best bet is emailing then again and again.

But topcashback also hasnt tracked my $25 cashbacks yet from Boost either (and I am down quite a lot instead of profit).

Doesn't quite make sense that the base cashback could be approved, but bonus cashback withheld/denied?

    • +1

I agree! I almost certain ShopBack got the bonus cashback from Westpac but they just didn’t want to give it to me as the bonus cashback was pending till a few days after the base cashback approved then got rejected.

Stopped using them - problems with claims

Hey @niniksa, I hear your frustration about the rejected Westpac Bonus Cashback. We'll look into this further and send you a DM.

I am surprised no one has done analysis with the cookies and tracking to prove shopback is doing what is collectively known in the industry as "selective scamming"

It is very easy to prove, but if you have worked in this industry you will know the norm is not to pay out each tracked event which is what cashrewards does. It is more normal for roughly 20-30% of the user base to be selectively scammed. Since cashrewards was sold, they still maintained somewhat close to 100% payout ratio which was surprising, but their rates are much lower so I guess they could get away with that, but only time will tell if that changes.

The dirty truth needs to be exposed, and I could probably do a full video showing the whole process, but not sure what the outcome would be. Maybe shopback gets banned if it can be proven but so would some other big players which are often mentioned here.

  • Merged from Call to Ban ShopBack

ShopBack is the worst company allowed on this platform.

I know they will never be banned by ozbargain because they are a major sponsor on this platform.

Even when my purchases are tracked successfully they still deny my cashback because they didn’t get confirmation from merchant….. this is when cash back has even been successfully tracked …. And invoices provided after they didn’t send me cash back.

The merchant in this case is Mydeal I have sent many back and forth emails to the overseas ShopBack support staff and they are determined to give you the run around and not pay.

Please add your own horror stories below.

    • I know they will never be banned by ozbargain because they are a major sponsor on this platform.

No one sponsors OzBargain nor do any companies pay to post or comment here. See FAQ

      • ShopBack pay for sponsored adds on this platform.

        • Again, Shopback nor anyone else sponsor us. We are an independent platform.

We do run display ads, managed by Publift, which allows anyone to add their ads into the ad networks (e.g. Google Ads).

          • @neil: So you still make money from ShopBack …..
also you can choose to exclude certain "Advertisers/Brands"

      • Also don’t know why this was merged, I was inviting people to add their horror ShopBack stories. Wasn’t a PSA like this post. I was hoping a collection of stories would lead to a ban. But should have expected Ozbargain to burry post.

        • We merge duplicate threads into existing current discussions. You've been on this site for 11 years, surely you've seen this? Happened 11 times in February if you read my stats post.

    • because they are a major sponsor on this platform.

      proove it…

Ohhh.. someone didn't get their "shut up and be quiet" $3 voucher hush money.

I've been warning people for years over this shifty mob, but each time info, I get down voted while there are multiple posts a week about how shit they are… But then they give out a hand full of $3 vouchers and everyone just conveniently forgets about that cash back of $390 they didn't get because of some bullshit, made up reason…

There are literally more complaints posts about Shit back then there are deal posts. Every week brings a new tale of woe for someone ripped off by their broken and scammy system…

      • Yep I agree. If they were banned from ozbargain I bet they would pick their game up…. I bet 60% of their traffic is driven by ozbargain

        Ayo where’s my $3 voucher

        • That's a targeted offer. Unfortunately this offer isn't available at this time.

My bet is that it “failed to track” because back in 1996 you used Netscape Navigator and it wasn’t a supported browser at the time…

  • I swear it wasn't me……
