Will a Samsung A31 SM-A315G/DS Work after Telstra 3G Shutdown?

Hi, will the A31 SM-A315G/DS work after Telstra shuts down 3G?

Current phone is a Xiaomi A3 which will not work but I’ve been offered the above phone from a friend. I read the Xiaomi was missing a band or Telstra required settings however I can find a succinct way to see if this phone meets the requirements.

Thank you.

"Non-Telstra devices are not guaranteed to work or support all features. In many cases, if your device isn't using Telstra firmware, required settings for VoLTE, ViLTE, Wi-Fi Calling and SMS over Wi-Fi may not be present."

Your Xiaomi doesn't work since it wasn't sold in Australia and it doesn't have the necessary firmware settings to support Volte down under. It can probably be fixed manually using the following instructions

    https://forums.androidcentral.com/threads/australian-xiaomi-…

"Yesterday in Australia 3G network was switched off resulting in that all phones that didn't have volte running could no longer send or receive phone calls. This includes most Xiaomi phones!! There is a fix however. By putting the following into you phone dial area the code ##86583## will clear the way!!
Hope this helps as it has caused extreme anguish with thousands of users in Australia

To check IMS (VoLTE) status open dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* Enable VoLTE & VoWiFi on Xiaomi without root:

To disable the carrier check for VoLTE, open dialer and type ##86583##

To disable carrier check for VoWiFi, open dialer and type ##869434##

Go to Settings> SIM & cellular. Select your SIM Card> Scroll to the bottom of the list and enable the toggle for VoLTE and VoWiFi.

    • Pity this was last updated in 2022. Although looks like it was last updated in 2015 or so.

  • There’s also, which has a number you can sms

  • The Telstra 3G network is scheduled to shut down across Australia on June 30, 2024³. If you have a Samsung A31 SM-A315G/DS, here are some important considerations:

    1. 3G Compatibility: The Samsung A31 SM-A315G/DS does not rely solely on 3G for connectivity. It supports 4G networks, which means it should continue to function for data services even after the 3G shutdown.

    2. Voice Calls: However, if your mobile device does not have Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology, it may not be able to make voice calls on Telstra's network after the 3G shutdown². VoLTE enables voice calls over 4G, so ensure that your phone supports this feature.

    3. Emergency Calls: Some older 4G phones may not be capable of making emergency calls (including connecting to Triple Zero) when 3G is turned off³. Verify if your Samsung A31 SM-A315G/DS supports VoLTE to ensure uninterrupted emergency services.

In summary, while the Samsung A31 SM-A315G/DS should continue to work for data services, it's essential to check its VoLTE compatibility for voice calls. If it supports VoLTE, you should be in good shape even after the 3G shutdown. 📱🌐🔊

I work for Telstra, and haven’t seen/heard anything about free phones

  • Does https://www.gsmarena.com indicate it works with 4G?
