CommBank Low Rate Credit Card ($6 Monthly Fee): $100 Monthly Cashback for 4 Months with $500 Monthly Spend @ CommBank Yello

1870

I think this is the best low credit limit, low spend cashback credit card sign up bonus going around right now. Between $358-376 profit depending on whether you have to wait the entire 90 days for the last cashback to be credited before closing the card. Looks to be just below the NAB Low Rate and ANZ Platinum in terms of profit per dollar spent, and better than both in terms of total profit per card/credit limit, just with a few more hoops:

As you need to be have Yello benefits unlocked at the time of applying for the offer, you need to unlock at least the first tier before accessing the offer. This is done by opening a transaction account and doing 5 x transactions in the month prior. I just did 5 x 1 cent split payments at Woolies self checkout last month and unlocked Yello this morning and applied.

Important details about the spend criteria from the website:

"The monthly spend criteria is based on four successive 30 day periods and the monthly cashback amount will be awarded when you spend $500 or more, minus any cash advances or refunds, in a month for the first four months. Your first 30 day period commences from the day your account is opened which you can find on your first statement. Transactions must be fully processed and any pending transactions at the end of the period will not count towards the spend criteria for that period.

Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria each month and will appear on your statement as either ‘CASHBACK $100’ or ‘CASHBACK $60’. Cashback only available on one credit card per customer. You will be ineligible for the cashback if your account is closed, switched to another card or in default at any time prior to the cashback being credited to your account."

I also ran out of space in the title to mention that this card also has a very accessible $500 minimum credit limit which appeals to hardcore churners. It also has 0% p.a. for purchases for the first 3 months.

      • Do you mind sharing how much was the home loan for?

  • I applied and they made me go to a branch with all my documents and ID. That took forever. And then they reject my application…
I have one other credit card that has always been paid off.

  • Spent >$500 on 14/05, received my first $100 cashback yesterday (27/06)

  • +1

    8 apr - 8 may (paid out 23 may)
    8 may - 7 june (paid out 27 june)

    Those are mine so far

    • Have you gotten your cashback yet?

      • Yes for those 2 months not yet for this month, expecting it in last week of the month

      • 31 May open - 1st June met and im still waiting for first payout. I hope its not going to be full 90 days for each payment.

  • Thanks for sharing in detail! I was interested in understanding when the cashback actually lands in the account and you summarized it perfectly :)

  • Got auto-declined from this one… lmao I'm guessing its because my commbank account doesnt' have much money and i rushed the application..

  • Has anybody got their fourth $100 credited yet?

The first 3 cashbacks came in within 10 days of the monthly fee being charged. It’s been 3 weeks since the monthly fee was charged this month (when I’m expecting the final $100), and absolutely nothing.

I’m thinking CommBank is going to make us wait out the entire 90 days for the final payout.

    • I hope not, I was expecting my final $100 in around 4 days.
I also received 3 other payouts within 10 days of monthly fee

    • i haven't - I just got charged my fifth monthly fee yesterday

      Here's my history

      Apr 24 - Monthly fee

      May 23 - received $100 cashback
      May 24 - Monthly fee

      Jun 20 - received $100 cashback
      Jun 25 - Monthly fee

      Jul 25 - received $100 cashback
      Jul 25 - Monthly fee

      Aug 26 - Monthly fee
      no cashback

      • Apr 17 - Monthly Fee
        May 17 - Monthly Fee
        May 23 - $100 Cashback
        June 18 - Monthly Fee
        June 27 - $100 Cashback
        July 18 - Monthly Fee
        July 25 - $100 Cashback
        August 19 - Monthly Fee
        No cashback yet

Maybe they do the cashback in batches seeing as most of ours fall on same date despite our statement periods being different.. heres hoping it won't be 90 days
From my calculations my final payment is for statement period 7 July to 6 August (So 90 days from then would be 4/9/24)

      • I started using my credit card from July 10. I haven’t got any cashback. Have spent over two grand in almost two months. I haven’t been charged any monthly fee either. It says monthly fee waived.

  • Anyone know if government payments (council rates) are ok? Don't really see any restrictions except refunds and cash advance.

    • These guys are scumbags so don't take any chances. They treated my Commbank Yellow cashbacks as refunds thereby considering my spend below the required threshold and making me ineligible for cashback.

After raising a complaint, they credited the cashback terming it as a gesture of goodwill rather than acknowledging it as their fault. Fu*k you Commbank!

  • Does anyone know whether overseas transactions count toward spending criteria?

    • Yes but they carry 3% foreign transaction fee.

  • +1

Received my first two cashbacks but August one hasn't been paid yet.

    • +1

Mine last one is still pending too. Expecting it in the next few days.

      • +1

Fingers crossed, not really looking forward to calling them up.

  • For some reason I’m getting an error trying to buy Woolworths gift cards a few hours after activating. “Something is wrong with your payment method”

    Grrrrr

look at this offer, it looks like 'Low Rate credit card' is the best value one, i am only going to stay for 5 months, then cancel.

    $400 cashback less $6*5 card fee = $370 profit.

Typically, spending on government bills such as city council fees, water and car registration isn’t included in the cash back criteria, but I didn’t see any exclusions mentioned in the T&Cs for this offer, except for ATO payments.

So I was $100 in credit after receiving my last bonus, I was unable to close the credit card until I removed the positive balance.

So I transferred the $100 credit to my transaction account, had to wait for that to settle to close the cc. Once it settled I was charged a $4 cash advance fee and now I can’t close the account until I transfer $4 into the account ffs and my monthly fee is due in a couple of days

    • +1

You should have asked online chat to close it for you and they will transfer the credit to your bank account

      • Should have but shouldn't have to, Bankwest let you transfer credit without any fees

        • Not all of them worked same way.

Some will automatically transfer to a debit account if you have one with them, other would asked you to provide one (BSB/Acc number) for them to do that.

If they do that, there would be no fee. If you do yourself then that a cash-advance, hence you got charged with a fee.

  • Op what’s the max limit on spend on these cards ?

    • I'm not sure what you mean? You can't get multiple $100 cashback per month if that's what you are asking.

  • First statement generated before I had the chance to spend 50 bucks on the card. I suppose that's that month's cash back gone?

    • +1

Your first 30 day period commences from the day your account is opened which you can find on your first statement.

Has it been 30 days since?

      • Nah but probably didn't trigger in the first month?

  • Is this for new or can it be for existing customers too?

  • +1

Can we opt again if cancelled before?

  • so few offers on atm, i will prob have to do this

  • Anyone still waiting for their last $100 cashback to be paid?

    Met requirement in April

    $100 paid in May 30th

    Met requirement in May

    $100 paid in June 27th

    Met requirement in June

    $100 paid in July 25th

    Met requirement in July

    Still no cashback

    • Yeah my last one is also missing. Was paid the same dates except my first was on May 23rd.

Almost missed the first month since my statement period ended a few days after getting the card, but I'm pretty sure I met the criteria every month.

  • Mine is card fee waived every month. I opened account on 20th june and spend $600 on june 22nd. There after more than 4k every month, still has not get any cash back yet got only fee waived which i was not aspecting. Something is wrong here. Tie to call them.

    • that's not ideal
      let us know

  • So teach me how do you do 1c X 5 split payments?

    • +1

Do you shop at Woolworths, BigW, Coles or anywhere using self-checkout machines? Split your total payment into multiple transactions there - can ask the shop assistant to help you.

  • I can't see this offer in Yello. I'm on "Everyday Plus benefits" and I use the same account for all grocery shopping but this offer doesn't show up in my Yello.

    Anything I miss?

    • +1

No need to see it in offers, just need to be in a tier when applying.

      • +1

thanks yeah I saw it when clicking into the credit card apply page in app

  • Waiting for my first cashback from 2 Sep to 2 Oct period. Anyone got anything yet?

    • Most likely to get it in the last week on October

    • Yeah same, 3sep-3oct. 2xfees but no Cashback yet. Let me know when you get yours please.

    • Still nothing mate. You got yours??

      • Nothing yet

      • Still nothing so far, you?

        • I contacted them just now, apparently you only get the cashback 90days after the final month. That means it's 7 months from when you open the account/reach your $500 spend (don't know which one). I opened my acct since 1st August and no cashback yet. So im guessing it's March next year for me(?).

          • @Himesama21: That doesn't seem fair to pay the extra monthly fees :( I have other cards to churn

          • @Himesama21: Hmmm. Ok. Bit of a turn off from the CBA

        • I messaged them. Seems like they will hold off for 90 days per cashback.

          • @basketcase86: Actually. It’s now all cashback after the final month within 90 days. So assuming 89th day they will pay.

Won’t be using CbA again to churn. Pretty sharp.

  • Has anyone received their 4th month cashback?

    • Yes, months ago

    • Nope still waiting. Been 2 months since I spent my fourth $500.

    • Got yours yet? Still waiting for mine

$358 profit sounds good to me
