Is this good for casual 2K gaming?

    • +1

Yea it should be fine depending on what you expect and the game you are playing.

A recent review by HUB. Judge for yourself.

Also they recommend saving for the 7800xt (was $770 recently) if you're considering the 7700xt.

Games these days must be unoptimised rubbish if we have to ask whether a GPU with 12GB of RAM is enough to run them at 1080p…

      • +4

        2k = 1440P :) and most people want above 60FPS these days to match their 144-165Hz - 1440P (2k) Monitors

A cheaper RX6600XT or RTX3060 12GB will get you around 60FPS in most new games at good settings with 1440P :)

Above 60FPS is the issue these days.. So people get cards like this 7700XT or the 4070 or 7800XT

        • +2

          I thought 1440P was considered 2.5K…

          • +3

@smartazz104: Yeah it technically is 2.5k but because of marketing 2k gets thrown around

          • @smartazz104: ive never heard that

            • @mavis30551: Marketing do one of these - 2k or QHD ( Quad HD ) :)

              • @vid_ghost: 2k is 1080p. The K refers to the horizontal resolution of the screen.

Marketing can call it what it wants but 2k is 1080p and 2.5k is 1440p

A lot of those comparison Youtube videos are fake, especially ones that don't even show overlays on recordings so I wouldn't trust those numbers.

      • You need a phd in Data Science to discern which are real it's quite disappointing given there are hardworking creators making legit benchmark videos, but what can you do I might email google about this later.

        • It's not that hard really… The real ones will usually show OSDs, often talk or show themselves in videos, show their product samples before the video or test system, have product samples in background, show software settings which show the GPU installed ect.

  • how hot do these get? I have a 3060ti that gets really hot (into the 70s) and heats up the pc case like an oven after 20-30 mins of gaming so wouldnt mind swapping for this.

    • +3

Gpu temps in the 70s is pretty normal these days.
You can always underclock/undervolt if you want cooler and don't mind sacrificing a small amount of performance.
Imo 3060ti -> 7700xt is not enough of an upgrade to be worth it. At least get 7800xt or probably just wait for next gen.

      • Sigh
It's been 3 generations for the "wait for next gen" comment to be valid. Sad times. But yes, hodl, sweet gamers.

    • People need to remember the temperatures of the gpu core is NOT representative of how much heat is generated from the card.

A 300w gpu at 50 degrees under water cooling still outputs 300w worth if heat the same as a 80 degree air cooler 300w card.

So look at the expected power draw of your card vs the one you're looking at.

Also agree do not upgrade to a 7700 XT from a 3060 Ti.
