Is the cashback only valid for the 2 yr plans or can we get a full cash back in the longer plans?

  • Complete plan
    2-year plan ($4.99/mo) + 3 EXTRA months

    $134.73
    Save 69%
    $447.93
    Tax country:Australia
    GST 10%
    $13.47
    Total
    $148.20*

So we can buy this 2year and 3 months plan and the cost is $13.47?

    • +7

Choose USA-California and you won’t need to pay tax.

    • +1

The advice in the past is to just get the basic plans to get 100% cash back.

      • +1

Thanks. Just checked previous post. It seems like the basic plan + a Tax free location should be good.

      • +2

Don't think you will get 100% back due to rate difference.

        • Yeah mine ends up being ~$4 or so dollars but who can really complain

  • Is a new email sufficient to qualify as a new account?

    • +2

      From previous comments yes

      • +1

is that new email in cashback, or for nord signup¿

    • +3

The fact that this is the case basically confirms they are making money other ways from you as a customer, ie selling data about you.

      • +2

Not really. CR is just cost of customer acquisition, discounting to acquire customers. As far as Nord is concerned, they receive the revenue/$ and it is CR that is subsidising the cost (for a fee from Nord).

        • What is the fee from Nord? how do they make money?

        • I guarantee you Nord is paying CR the full amount they receive plus an affiliate fee per conversion. How else do you think CR makes money? Nord is making a loss now but will sell customer data for profit later.

@7hours 44min ago: Meh who cares – you're only meant to use VPN for things like geoblocking, flying to Turkey, and 7-Eleven helicopters ;Þ

            • @itsfree: How do you fly to 7 eleven? I thought that helicopter broke down ages ago

              • @Bretttick: I used iFakeLocation + fresh iPad + new 7-Eleven account + NordVPN

    • There's no profit, why do it again? Credit card points?

  • Can I use the same cash rewards account but new email?

    • +1

      Yes

    • That’s what most people would do.

  • My timings generally have never been great. After 2 years, my NordVPN subscription expired last week and I have subscribed to PureVPN with 95% cash back. Now this is 100%. Such is life!

    • +2

Could at least waited for a 'good' VPN

      • As long as it allows them to spoof locations, then all should be good no?

I wouldn't trust any commercial VPNs with hiding my identity, but for getting better Netflix/YT videos it should be fine.

        • It doesn't even seem to do that properly, when I last tried PureVPN a lot of the locations were wrong. They have also handed over user logs in the past. Parent company also owns Ivacy, and Ivacy's Windows app gets flagged as malware and refuses to install lol.

  • Still trying to figure out what I use a VPN for

    • You don't need VPN if you don't visit websites that against or banned by CCP, North Korea,…etc AND put your foot on those countries.

      • how else do you sign up for the cheap youtube premium and spotify deals?

  • Damn, i purchsed nordvpn 3 days before this deal…😮‍💨

    • +2

      full refund within 30 days

      • Ah, ozbargain is part of my life now!

  • +1

Ordered. Tracked in under 1 hour.
Now to wait 3 months for the cold hard.

  • Does this work in china?

    • +2

no. The great firewall is stronger than ever before. even express vpn is no longer working.

      • +1

dnscat still works .. may not be everyone's cup of tea tho

    • +1

      use "ladders" in china.

      • +3

Good thing the Mongols/rabbits didn't have those

    • In my experience, about 75% of the time it works. pretty slow, though. You'd need to e-mail customer support for some special servers and a somewhat tedious set up process with openvpn.

  • -1

any way of getting this for existing customers¿

    • +2

Yeah use a different email to sign up

  • +1

how do they make money with all these cashbacks?!? 🤔

    • +9

When something is free then you are the product.

      • +1

    Helps my chopper run

    • reading it's not working for many.. mind telling where and where?

      • Live in Melbourne, fly my chopper to Perth.

  • How come it shows $83.43 with Virgin Island to me? I see the price for other people is $81.36

  • I paid in PayPal and was charge $127 is this correct?
I thought it would be $83 but I guess that’s USD?

    • Yes it’s USD

      • Can I please ask if it's $81.36 USD or they have just adjusted the price recently as it shows $83.43 to me with no GST.

        • +2

It was $83.43 US, my credit card shows $127.31 AUD, and it tracked as $124.73

So $2.58 AUD for 27 months of VPN. Bargain!

    • Is there any way to pay in USD? Mine automatically changes to paying in aud on the payment page

  • How long does cashback take?

    • Took 30 mins for me. Windows chrome w/o Adblock and running on 4G hotspot.

      • +2

I mean to get the ~$120 back

        • Give it about 3 months. Usually it will come through after about 6-8 weeks.

  • NordVPN doesn't seem to have a GUI client under Linux. CLI only. Not sure if this is a blessing. Had to spend time to figure out the commands and the documentation feels lacking.

    • -6

Using a GUI for anything on Linux is a criminal offence. Use the CLI and figure out the commands. Stop being a puss.

      • I don't disagree with you. Simply saying it took me longer than I wanted to figure it out and the documentation can be done better.

On a fresh Ubuntu-derived distro I have found the auto-connect doesn't always work on boot. Having to use CLI to manually check the connection status every time is a hassle and I am sure I will miss activating it on occasions.

Also surprised the analytics collection is on by default.

    • I run it on my router (which is using Merlin firmware) - just set & forget for the whole household

      • Not everyone wants their entire home traffic going through a VPN.

Just saying in case someone's curious about this solution.

        • +1

Yes, sure. I have a couple of IP addresses set outside the VPN's range

  • for the BASIC plan shows US109.59 in Paypal

    nordvpn product
    Basic plan
    2-year plan ($3.69/mo) + 3 EXTRA months
    $99.63

    Tax country:Australia
    GST 10%
    $9.96

    Is this correct? Thanks

    • Read above comments. If you select country as US and state as California, the tax amount comes to zero. Please note the amount is in USD so without tax will come to ~125 AUD.

  • +2

does the trick of adding a "." or "+" to your gmail address work in setting up a new Nord account?

    • Would also like to know

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

I was able to create an account with “+”

  • +2

Started tracking after 30 mins, cheers!

US$83.43 = AU$124.73 tracking of the AU$127.31 spend on Basic 2 year plan from British Virgin Islands.

    • I am not sure what doing wrong, getting $109.59US and $160AUD

      • Maybe you're signed in with an old account?

From an incognito and going here (https://nordvpn.com/pricing/), clicking "Get Basic" for 2 years should show up as US$83.43 at the checkout page.

Those who're thinking of China travel with Nord VPN, well that didn't work for us. 9 out of 10 times, Nord couldn't locate or took way too long to lock in to a server and we ended up using mobile eSim with VPN inbuilt. That also wasn't perfect but much better than Nord VPN over WiFi connections. FYI

    • Yeah I think you basically require one of the providers that provide shadowsocks based solutions for use in the mainland nowadays.

Everything else will just get automatically degraded to the point of unusable.

      • To be perfectly honest, we didn't really need a VPN especially with VPN enabled eSim. Besides you go to China to enjoy the country, not to surf google or Facebook which you can do leisurely at home anyways why spend too much money for airfares to do that overseas 😀

    • Similar experience last time i was China.

Out of curiosity, this eSim with VPN, where was this from?

      Cheers

      • I bought from Travelkon. They're not perfect but works 90% of the time. Make sure you set up both Alipay and WeChat with your bank card connected before leaving Australia. You will end up using those all the time to make payments. Cash use is rare and all venders including those street venders use mobile payments Alipay or WeChat. For that of course you do need a working eSim.

    • +1

Only expressVPN works in China from experience :)

      • Astrill works

    • can you receive gmails while there?

      • I could via my eSim connection.

  • Does this work in India (YT & Hotstar)?

and does it apply on Plus package? or just basic as mentioned in one of above comments?

    • Yes, but quality on Hotstar isn’t great for me. YMMV

      • Thanks for that!!

  • Has anyone here used both SurfShark and Nord, and if so, can you provide your experience of speed and usability of both in Melbourne?

I've been using SurfShark after moving from ExpressVPN and find that it works fine when connected, but the program takes an age to load after boot and often doesn't connect to the server at all (requiring a restart).

Any issues like that with Nord?

    • +1

Nord has been really solid for me over the years and haven't really experienced issues but I use it quite sparsely tbh

    • +1

Same parent company, pretty sure they share servers so speed should be really similar.

  • +1

Whats the use-case for vpn guys?

  • -1

So before I go all in, is the complete plan covered in the 100% cashback?

    • Did you read the instructions?

      • It says that it works for any plan but most people prefer the basic plan but without explaining why, unless I misunderstood all the upsell components.

        • "All plans (discounted or not, excluding upsold products) are eligible for 100% cashback (2-year, 1-year, monthly). Remove up-sold products such as NordPass & NordLocker as they are ineligible for cashback. So unless you really need or want the extras, best option (IMHO) is to simply choose one of the Standard plans and not Plus or Complete."

          • +2

@Repstar: I don’t understand why you wouldn’t go for the full plan if it’s 100% cash back then. Really makes sense to see if you actually use all of the services.

            • @emresound: depends what you use it for i guess. basic is fine for me as i just use it to watch kayo / foxtel / aus tv while overseas.

  • +1

Be careful with switching between mobile data and wifi. If you were connected to nordvpn, then your device connects to wifi, nord will continue routing traffic through mobile data. Been on customer support for years, across multiple devices, networks. They refuse acknowledge this. Will tell you to reset this, reset that.

  • Has anyone tried and or had success to purchase the 2yr Complete plans for the 100% cashback?
