WD My Passport 2TB USB 3.0 (2.5" USB Powered) $187 at Good Guys

440

Cheapest on Staticice is $230+ . Officeworks has dropped to the same price to avoid price matching but has no stock (available to backorder). Bought one a few weeks ago from last Officeworks sale for $219 and contemplating another. Awesome transfer rates, great for backing up your media collections. Contemplating making a mini-micro server with 4 of these, a powered USB 3.0 hub and an ITX M/B ! It's Good Guys, so may even be less for cash.

Deal may be better off with this link instead of a picture upload -

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Western_Digital_My_P…

They're also available for $198+ on staticice, a bit less than what you found when you searched.

    • Thanks for updating the link. I must have searched with different keywords on staticice, tried a few different combinations and found them for $198, but the shipping was $16.95

  • wow. Cheapest eva in Australia. Amazon has sold them for less though only 1 year warranty iirc.

  • they no longer contain that stupid virtual drive with the software. I got one for 200 a few weeks ago, not bad so far, haven't tried it on USB3 yet.

  • ooohh nooo… I should've waited bit longer.. got a 1TB from past deal..

  • Anyone tried getting OW to pricematch Amazon price [$179 US] I have been successful getting them to price match for a WD TV from Amazon.

I did. Didn't go down well.

I had a copy of the actual receipt from the actual store I was standing in, not 2 days later and they would NOT price match Amazon under any circumstances: they evidently got in trouble for it and a mass email was sent out citing the exact hard drive I was trying to get.

Never going to be shopping there again - they shit on their customers, they don't get my business full-stop. I'd rather order online for practically half the price, or go to their competitors if I find the price reasonable enough.

I think the Amazon price was $150 delivered for a 2TB My Passport hard drive. OW grossly overpriced it at $250.

To add to that, I did complain in a very specific manner via their website and I would have expected - as my complaint was clearly genuine and I'm not one to complain about stores very often at all - I praise them through their website more often than I complain to them - to get a voucher or something similar by way of an apology for their disgusting service, but no.

  • These are very good. Nice speed on USB3 - I got upto 110MB/sec for reads and writes (peak).

Some crazy deal was posted in the past where a WD 2.5 inch 2 TB USB 3 was being sold for 150 or less in Australia. It must have been a pricing error but I think a few people were lucky enough to snag them.

I can confirm! Snagged one for 145 from officeworks!

Does this use 2 1tb HDD or a single 2TB HDD

    • +1

      Single 2TB 2.5" HDD

  • does anyone know if i crack open this case whether the internal connector is SATA.. ie, can i remove it and plug it into, say, my PC sata port? (dont care if case is destroyed, tho ofcourse would be nice if its salvagable) .. thnx in advance.

    • On the older WD 2.5" models the USB was soldered directly to the drive, to be safe I would work on that presumption until proven otherwise! ;)

The USB interface is part of the main board on the drive in all the current generation Passport drives now :(

    • I accidentally broke the usb 3.0 plug on my WD My Book[?] 1 TB EXTHDD a few weeks ago and took it too my pc guy and he pulled the case apart and the usb plug was soldered to the board so he said it was no problem at all to plug the HDD into my pc case and he said the drive was actually a WD Black Caviar drive and that was a good thing and it's now purring away in my coolermaster tower.

So I reckon you'll be sweet to crack it open and reuse it, best of luck :D

found this at MLN for $179

    http://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3966

could be a nice deal if you live close to one of its branch…

  • I was going to post this deal yesterday morning, but forgot about it.

Our local OW was offering this drive for the same price. Unfortunately they ran out of stock online and in the shop as well. So I went to Good Guys and the guy looked up the OW price, but obviously missed the "out of stock" ticket next to the price as he gave it to me for $178,-

  • I am still hopeful someone will find these for around $150 soon as I missed the other deals :(

Just picked one up from The Good Guys Wagga, advertised as $187, took it to the counter and without saying a word about price matching or anything it scanned in at $178.

  • I don't see why this is a good deal?
    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Western+Dig…
Plus the postage is only $9 for anywhere in Australia and its $4.50 for a second drive.

How is this a good deal? Just trying to understand?
