"I heard the phone is good" vs "but its a crap phone though"

      WTF??

      • -2

        I meant Crap price

  • +1

Camera is just overprocessing which is a software issue, it does different processing depending on what button you press. This is being worked on as a bug and should make it perfect :)

Phone is heavy (all reviews bitch about this) - so what. Extra 50g should not be the deal-breaker. A case weights more anyway. Why can AT&T sell for $450 outright (unlocked? with wireless charging mat?) and it costs so much here. Should be 10% extra which is ~$500, which definitely puts it into consideration next to the Nexus 4. At $600+ (being generous here, lowest I've seen is this deal, RRP at $829), Nokia can go p-off. If the phone was 9mm with a 3000mAh battery (Moto can pretty much do it), would consider at the current price. Anyone else seriously frustrated at this?

    • +4

The only review I've seen that "bitched" about the weight was 1 US gizmodo review and all the comments ripped into the writer for his crappy review.

32gb Iphone is $899 on the apple store this is who MS is competing with.

    • I think once it launches in US we might be able to order it over ebay for $500+transport. The only problem will be the AT&T branding and the warranty - I ordered the Samsung Focus WP7 like that, it still works great but there is that risk.

      • Unfortunately the AT&T version has a different modem and doesn't support LTE 1800 - the band Telstra, Optus and eventually Vodafone will support.

It's a pity because I had my heart set on a Cyan one, which is exclusive to AT&T.

        • I thought the new LTE chips were global.. supporting both US and non-US standards, but I'll need to double check..

        • +1

          From the Nokia website:

          US
          GSM 850/900/1800/1900
          WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100
          LTE 700/1700/2100

          Global
          GSM 850/900/1800/1900
          WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100
          LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600

Why they did it that way I don't know.

I call pants on fire to your comment Keven22, all the lab test show the camera is the best against all current flagship phones both in stabilization and low light conditions. The colour saturation was questioned but that comes down to personal preferences and is something nokia always tend to do.

I would have liked this phone but its really a brick when compared to other flagship phones and thats just not going to work for me. A shame because these days, having an awesome shooter as a phone is really where I want to be.

    • The camera has issues with sharpness in daylight shots. I realise that 920 has the potential to be the best camera phone, but right now even the iPhone 5 produces better daylight shots. The 920 has issues with recording video also, white balance changes constantly, and weird wobble due to the stabilization in some instances.

  • Nokia undercuts its RRP significantly here in AUS, when they released the lumia 800 it was RRP $700 or even $800 I cant remember, but it showed up on our corp mobile phone plan providers system at $530 the week it came out.

    • Here's hoping. Why even bother setting the RRP so high anyway. Is it so retailers can say 50% off, great savings!!!

  • +1

Want one, price point is bullshit though, $700 compared to S3 at $500.

I know because it's new but still.

Love to see any overseas import prices etc.

    • +1

This has LTE. Compare it to S3 4G prices.

      • +1

        I can't find a 32gb 4G S3 on Kogan but the 16gb goes for $719 itself… http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-s3-4g-i9305-grey-…

      • -2

        S3 has quad-core and 4G(LTE) and 2GB RAM..

        • Not really comparable considering android is notorious for how demanding it's system is. This device guarantees 60FPS performance (puremotion+ or some other jargon).

        • That doesn't make the system fast mate, that just means things are displayed at 60fps. It may still take seconds to load up SMS app, or as reviewers have mentioned that an apps first load can take quite a while.

Quad core android phones are quite fast, especially the ones with jelly bean

        • Well, certainly. My current frustration with Android though is the fact that everything has a stuttering lag behind it, on a dual core phone with 1GB of RAM (Sensation XE). It's ridiculous, and the 1st generation Windows Phones have better performance than it, despite having incredibly mediocre specs.

        • I've never noticed that with any of my phones. I wonder if it's model specific?

        • Thats not androids fault. Android itself is insanely fast, companies fatten the OS by adding Sense or Touchwizz. You want a lag free android, go learn how to cyanogen mod or go buy a nexus. Android stands toe to toe with ios in terms of snappyness.

      • my bad

      • This has LTE. Compare it to S3 4G prices.

        Samsung Galaxy S3 4G/LTE i9305 Australian Model $679

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84142

      • You're correct, but I don't care about LTE so I'm not paying more of it. Not worth ~$200 anyway.

    • -1

People are forgetting Android = free, Nokia has to pay royalties to Microsoft which increases its sale price.

  • +2

Nokia set such a ridiculuous price for their phone, and they wonder why they're now struggling in the phone market.

    • +3

Why? GS3 RRP is $850, iPhone 5 starts at $800…

This is the launch price, not the price after months of discounting like the GS3.

      • When we're talking about Kogan, we're not talking RRPs. Kind of misleading to compare RRPs when no one buys them for that price anyway, except iPhone users. I don't think the S3's price at launch (real price, not RRP) was this high if my memory serves. But in any case, the 4G version of S3 launched only recently, and that price is fair to compare with this phone, and right now the Australian model is selling for $679 at exeltek (posted a few moments before this).

I know which one I'd rather take.

Do Kogan actually have stock? These popular "Hong Kong" retailers are pretty bad at the moment lying about what stock they have. I've already had to cancel an order due to many lies about whether they have stock, when they will be shipped and how many they received. We're not stupid!!!

    • Yeah - this also had me very curious

    • how did you manage to cancel your order? they really make it hard to get in touch with them, have never had a reply from them for any orders..

  • Did anyone preorder from HN for $699? http://www.wpdownunder.com/?p=6734

    • It's $799.

I would personally buy grey import and use 28 degree price protection insurance.

It's a shame the phone is released too late and I have purchased Note 2 already. I like the style.

      • +1

It is now, but originally they had it advertised at $699 and the article was basically saying HN would honour the $699 for those that had placed orders. Now they have corrected their price.

        • I see $699 is pretty good, considering it's with 2 yr warranty.

    • I did. But the release date of this phone has never been told. Still waiting…

  • +1

Do Kogan actually have it in stock?

I'm waiting on my HN pre-order…couldn't say no to the stuff up price :p

    • I went to the checkout & it said "In Stock" but no idea how accurate that is.

    • +1

Why didn't you advertise it here on ozbargain so we could have all cashed in at $699?

      • I woulda, but I got it just as they were changing back to $829…there may have been a few disappointed people if I'd posted and they couldn't get it :p

  • +3

IMHO get ti from Mobile Citi if you want to avoid Grey imports,

    http://www.mobileciti.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=920&ord…

Gives you 2 years Nokia Covered warranty

  • Anything around for non-4G

  • -2

At $700+ you might aswell wait for the HTC DNA Droid or the Oppo find 5, they both look similar to the 920 if you're into the cosmetics.

    • They look nothing like the Nokia. They look like every other phone out there already. And by the time they come out, the Nokia will prob be $500.

  • If you wait 3 months, I predict you will be able to buy it for half the price and that is for AU stock.

With Microsoft releasing their own phone, I can only see Nokia downward spiral continuing.

    • Well hopefully google plays nice and chooses Nokia to be the hardware provider for the nexus 5.

    • No way. Go and check the price for Lumia 900.

  • -6

i herd dis phone is 2 heavy n cums in weird colours a real deal breaker for me as i just like black phones

    • +4

As far as I'm aware, it also comes in black.

      • -1

        Buys phone in black.
        Uses yellow express-on cover.

        • -2

Seizes opportunity to get some likes
          Nobody likes comment

        • Oooh low blow. At least you used proper grammar this time.

    • Considering that I see little girls and boys holding an iPad in one hand while they are using it, which mind you weighs over 600grams, I don't see how many of us would find 185gms too heavy to hold. I hold my macbook air in one hand which is 1.14kg; now THAT would be a heavy phone!

    • Think of it this way - you take an iPhone (125g apox.), add a decent cover (50g apox), and it nearly reach 175gms. The 920 is something like 185gms so not much of a difference considering you don't need a cover for it since it has a scratch proof body.

      • Tbh, I have never seen the point of rear covers. I have an LG Android something and I was able to buy a new rear panel + extended battery for $9.50 delivered. And for a China battery it has surprisingly doubled my battery life. Even if you ignore the the battery, buying a replacement cover is often more convenient than a protector.

That being said, I haven't managed to scratch or crack screens or cases on any phone, and have therefore never bothered with screen protectors and the like.

        • +1

Only reason I have a case on my phone is due to the deathgrip

  • +1

Awesome phone. If I had $700 i'd get one right now. Craps on iPhone and Android.

Aside the apps, the Nokia 920 comes with some impressive features including OIS, Super sensitive screen, wireless charger, clearblack technology. The ability to take good night photo may be a strong selling point to some, because no one has got it right so far. For years we have settled with dark photos, blurry photos or grainy photos, or a combination of these. This should hopefully provide something better if you are keen to take higher quality night photos without having a dedicated camera with you.
Apps I believe will come in a matter of time given the opportunity for new developers to showcase their apps on a relatively bare shelf. The Apple app store is chock full of apps, a lot of developers may not be getting the exposure they want due to the saturation and may try their luck on a new platform. The stability of Windows Mobile will provide a good alternative to those who enjoy the stability of IOS, but wish to try something different.
As to the weight, I guess with the hardware you are getting with the phone, you’ll have to compromise. I’ve seen a lot of people with battery packs on their Iphones, or portable chargers because their phone don’t last a day, so essentially, this phone with a 2,000mah battery will suit these people.

  • For those interested its $5 per month on the $60 Telstra plan.

Plus you get a free wireless speaker

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh23YQAzHW8

  • Nokia wants a come back but why they priced it that high.

    • Aggressive marketing = higher perceived value. Why would iphones be priced so high considering the new nexus is half the price but bests it out on most features.

  • still unconfirmed whether the item is in stock or pre-order though..anyone has talked with Kogan customer service?

    • I ordered one - the info that was provided said that shipping will be by the 16th and knowing them it will take 2ish weeks once shipped.

Im in no rush… for a $100+ saving I can wait a little bit

      • you do realise that it will be a Grey import however?
That means that you won't get Nokia's official 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

  • Dude $696 from Telstra/Harvey Norman!

    • Harvey Norman's selling them for $829. Telstra doesn't have an outright price yet, but about $800 is expected.
