  • No love for the regular PS4 from EB Games - no dillema if I should use this offer!

    • Ikr

  • "EB World Bonus does not apply"

So level 5 doesn't get any extra on top?

    • +2

Think you just answered you own question

    • +1

Depends. I got it applied on my trade-in of my switch.

      • +1

        Looks like staff error

  • +15

Maybe im out of touch… but this seems like a bargain for EB Games rather than the one trading in their console.

    • +7

Really hard to sell a PS4 nowadays. $150 is a good price. Same for the Xbox one S.

    • +4

$180 for a PS4 Pro is around what you'd get if you auctioned it on eBay, if not more. An eBay auction ended 5 days ago for $190 with 2 controllers & 4 games, and EB's giving you $180 for just the console & 1 controller. Plus you don't have to deal with listing, hagglers, posting, fees, etc. Seems like a good deal.

      • How about PS5, XSX…

        • Series S trade isn't listed in deal. Not sure about X. Got my PS5 for $500 on Black Friday last year w/ Spider-Man 2, so $440 cash seems reasonable for that too. Do you have examples of other stores you can take your console in & get more $ than in this deal?

          • @boisterous bill: Like I said maybe im out if touch, but I definitely wouldn't sell any of my consoles for the $ advertised in this deal. I would rather keep them. You got your PS5 for a great price.

          • @boisterous bill: I got an email about this and Series S was listed at $250.

        • A quick look on marketplace and I can see PS5s and XSXs going for $400-500

      • -1

I’m series x these days but tempted to offload the ps4 pro and grab a ps5 but the exclusives are still thin on the ground and isn’t prob worth the price gap to me.

If naughty dog pushed out another uncharted or TLOU or other exciting new IP I’d prob line up immediately…

  • Nice. Time to let go of the old console.

    • +2

Just make sure not to arrive with an original base model PS4 or Xbox One as they wont touch them anymore.

  • It says more boosted offers in store - anyone know if XSS has a boost at their store? And switch oled?

    • Called Warringah Mall - XSS is $250, switch oled is $250

  • When you trade a console do they expect the whole retail package? I have an old Switch which I wouldnt mind refreshing for a new one but given I bought it when it came out I dont have the packaging.

    • +4

No packaging is fine. This is what I've got from the website:

Your console needs to be an Australian model, in working condition and not be modified. Parental lock must be removed before trading.

      Nintendo Switch
To trade a complete console, it also needs to include:

      1 x Nintendo Switch Dock
      1 x Left Joy-Con
      1 x Right Joy-Con
      1 x AC adapter
      1 x HDMI Cable
      2 x Joy-Con wrist straps & buttons
      1 x Joy-Con Grip

      Nintendo Switch Lite
To trade a complete console, it also needs to include:

      1 x AC adapter

If your console is not in working, complete, or resalable condition - we may still be able to trade it. Ask at your local EB Games store or contact our friendly customer service team on (07) 4800 4084 for more information.

      • Thanks! Should have looked a bit harder

      • Thanks again, I did the trade, no package required. Easy

  • +2

    Those prices seem pretty good.

    • +1

      especially for older gen consoles

  • +1

what would be the reason to part with a Xbox Series X? it's such a powerful gaming device with a right TV

    • +15

Switching to PS5 or PC. Not finding gaming fun anymore. Punishing a child. Drug money. Going to prison for 10 years.

      • +1

        OzBargain.
Come for the bargains, stay for the dark plot twist in act three.

      • none of the scenarios involves eneloops so I am not convinced lol

    • Excuse to buy a good GPU for PC. Able to play Helldivers 2, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part I, Uncharted Legacy Edition, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Marvel's Spider-Man etc… (on PC).

      • right. I think what we can conclude here is that Xbox Series X is great for people living under a rock: I don't even know what half of thise games are, and why someone would would want to play any of them bad enough to switch platforms, at a loss, too. I have endless Xbox Pass Ultimate and can always find something interesting to play on the Pass without spending a cent

        • Those are Sony games (basically quite a lot of PlayStation games are now available on PC). The future of console gaming doesn't look very promising (because of PC and mobile gaming). Sony has moved to limited timed exclusive games as it needs more customers (though only PC will get those games, XBox Series S|X won't).

GamePass is available on PC. Epic game store gives out free games. PC just have more games. Part of the problem is recent GPU price drop. I have Series X since launch day, but it is more than 3 years old now. I paid $50 for it (traded in my One X, an extra controller and a bunch of games).

It's just hard for me to rave about Series X when my PC has a GPU that's more than 2X faster than Series X.

Series X is not that big of a deal, nor PS5, nor PC, nor Switch. A lot of people have multiple devices. There is a problem with Series X though, that overly expensive storage expansion is really annoying. Microsoft should stop that stupid restricted list of possible SSDs (which is less than a handful) and open it up to any SSD (just allow us to use CFastExpress adapter with any SSD, even if Microsoft wants to enforce PCIe gen 4, that would still be fine).

          • +2

@netsurfer: yeah I also have a PC as well, runs 3070. but noisy when playing some games. at least Xbox I can't hear it playing same games

I used PC to play Death Stranding and Mordhau - this last one is hopeless to play competitively without real mouse and keyboard, forget it on a console

but I use PC less and less, dunno why. even though there are tons of games I own. probably because I prefer 65 inch 4k TV as opposed to 4k Dell g3223q which is also awesome but much smaller. and once again, noise. maybe need to look into replacing case fans, but stuck with some proprietary ones with that Razer case.. decisions decisions

            • @shabaka: It's different for people like us who bought GamePass Ultimate cheap before. $18.95 per month @ 12 months now = $227.40. People might think it is great, but for that price, I'd rather spend on something else.

Microsoft removed monthly free games. Revamped reward doesn't appear to be streak based (the old weekly streak is now zapped). Also, Microsoft need to stop updating the App store so often (it gets really annoying, especially when it doesn't update properly).

Series X is >3 years old. Knowing PS5 Pro is coming, I reckon Microsoft has something new coming as well.

  • Do they have controller trade-in?

    • Yes but no bonus.

    • +1

I remember the Xbox One controller trading in for $9 a few months ago. I'm sure it has since dropped in value.

    • they even trade broken controllers.. got $35 for my series s controller which i was going to throw in the bin

  • +1

Bloody annoying there’s no EB World bonus. Got a PS5 and XSX to trade this week coming and that 20% bonus would have been sweet!

    • +1

It does but I think it depends on the branch. When I traded my Switch the bonus didn't come up and the guy just added it in. Another 20% additional which brought the trade-in for the Switch to $252.

      • Sometimes you’ll get lucky with a staff member who’s oblivious but this deal specifically says it’s not in conjunction with the EB World bonus.

    • It is a bonus for those without a good level bonus. A trade base price for the Series X was around $370 and with my level 5 I got $450 2 months ago. They are pretty much paying the same price but for everyone now.

      • You will keep your level 5 for next year I reckon.

  • +2

Got an email about this and some consoles that aren't listed in the OP:

    Switch OLED: $260
    Xbox Series S: $250
    Xbox One X: $110
    PS5 Digital: $380
    Switch Lite: $110

  • Months of hushed whispers and secret meetings culminate in this very moment. My old faithful switch has been neatly packed and hidden away for this since I got my OLED last year. On level 5 and not being able to use my bonus hurts :(

    • +3

Try and ask. I did and got the bonus.

  • is this permanent? would be nice to get that value for the PS5 when the pro version comes out

    • +1

Not permanent. 1 week promo only. 5 days left.

    • There will be trade-in offers when pre-orders open up

    • +3

I expect EB to run a special trade in promotion for PS5 Pro later on (trade in PS5 at bonus rate). EB did that for PS5 and Series X (after trading in PS4 Pro and XBox One X, games and accessories, I got Series X and PS5 Pro by paying $100 and $50 (basically only the deposits for the pre-orders, everything else was paid through trade-in goods)). The guy next to me traded in a huge pile of games and even got $900 worth of EB World credits.

      • Did you need certain status level for this? Hoping to trade up to the 5 pro from my PS5 disc. For 50-100 that would be a bargain.

        • +1

EB had double trade in values for PS5 and XBox Series X pre-orders. EB also allowed us to stack with EB World level bonus. The hard part is that you must get the pre-order done (because a lot of people wanted to pre-order PS5 and Series X). PS5, I thought about for nearly a hour, but when EB dropped the deposit to $50 for the final round pre-order that day, I thought why not (since it was possible to cancel it anytime). Sony messed up the PS5 pre-order so scalpers did not know the exact date. Series X, everyone was ready, so I had to pre-order right away.

Also, I was only a level 3 member before the pre-orders. Buying 2 consoles got me heaps of EB carrots and the console trade-ins received 2X in carrots. After I paid off PS5 with trade in, I got promoted to level 4. With so many points collected in 1 year, I easily made it to level 5 for the following year.

PS5 Pro trade-in will be harder for me because I've gone mostly digital this gen and I've done game disc trade-ins with the birthday double deals 3 years in a row. But, if it is paying $300-$350 (and hand in my PS5 disc version and extra controllers), I will still be quite happy.

  • +1

    no xbox one x??

  • They don’t take Ps5 digital?

    • they do. $380 see above

  • I'm in NSW and want to offload my XSX but don't have anything in mind to purchase right now. Do they allow trade in for EB Games gift card or similar?

    • +1

No to eb gc but you can buy other types of gcs. Some stores will allow to put credit on preorders which can be cancelled and use for other stuff in the future.

  • Wondering how long the Xbox One/One S is going to be supported for. With Cloud gaming it could potentially live on to a ripe old age.

    • The most recent "current gen" game we've played on it was Hogwarts bc it was like 8 or 9 bucks cheaper and we play on the Series X anyway so you get the One X enhanced version and faster load times, etc. … anyway, downloaded it to the OG Xbone and it's quite playable. Load times are a decent deal longer (on a stock HDD anyway), but other than that, the visuals obviously aren't as pretty but it was plenty playable and far from ugly. Considering the highest selling game of 2023, a decade after the 'Bone's release, ran and looked fine, yeah, it could hang on for a while longer yet with the middle of the road games.

Shame though because it's a bummer as a day one current genner that the only thing we've really got exclusive for current gen is Spider-Man 2 and it didn't feel that much better than the PS4 ones. Ratchet came to PC, Jedi Survivor was disappointing, and everything else I can instantly think of is cross gen anyway.

I wish they'd (everyone) focus more on current gen, but the longevity of these consoles makes the poor kid in me who was stuck on PS2 until just before 2012 very happy.

      • I have a 1TB Samsung USB SSD plugged into my One S and store my most played games on that. Works beautifully. It is possible to upgrade the internal HDD to an SSD if you're a tinkerer (which I am) but I'm reticent to spend more money on this console itself. The SSD I had spare and thought I'd give it a try and load times are greatly improved.

        • Oh definitely. And the One S doing streaming in 4K (and 4K UHD BD if you're into physical) definitely helps it feel a bit more modern when stacked against the OG or a PS4.

  • 1234

  • One hand, considering I bought another Xbox One off Marketplace a month or so back w/ 2 controls and a battery pack for 50 total, this is alright, I guess.

Other hand, holy (profanity), this is boosted values? (profanity) 110 for a Switch Lite? What was it before? I traded a 2DS in in like 2019 and got 60/70 odd bucks for it, ridiculous to think a Switch Lite is hardly worth anymore.

    • Is that OG XBox One or One S|X? Really want to get a cheap One S for retro gaming.

      • OG, but it was swapping in for a disc less One S on the guest room TV, was easier to do that than plug in a PS4 or BluRay player separately.

One and One S are pretty much 99% the same thing except for Doom 64 running 1440p on the One S. If you want retro, splash the cash on a Series S and get Dev Mode. Handles PS2/GameCube and Wii flawlessly, Dev Mode emulation is legit the best thing of this generation.

Edit: Then again, (profanity) it, retro retro, aka everything before PS2 should run fine on a One / One S with Dev Mode. I played a bit of DuckStation (PS1) and PPSSPP on the One S a few years ago and it was great. Spyro with widescreen hacks at 1440 was full speed and looked great, loved the Crash remakes, platinum'd all 3 of the Spyro ones…but I just never liked the visual style as much with Spyro as I did with Crash, so I preferred to go back to the PS1 ones. Anyway, PS1 was great at 1440, PPSSPP was pretty well full speed on everything too, had to turn on frameskip for Spider-Man 3 but at least I finally got free roaming Spider-Man on Xbox One…that wasn't TASM2 or Disney Infinity. Point being, PS1 and PSP ran great, Dreamcast not so much, GameCube was not playable and I have a pretty low bar, I've beat games running on emulators on a Nokia 3310. Anything older will definitely work fine.

  • What is the price for normal switch? Is it Switch OG? Worth upgrade from switch to OLED with this offer?

  • Do we think the trade in price for the OG switch is worth it?

    • I have struggled to sell my switch for $200 in the last 6 months and with no serious offers, this is a no-brainer for me. Additional factors also apply e.g. I bought mine in 2019 for $289 (with ebay vouchers) + TRS claim.

      • Thanks for sharing your experience. Seems like a no brainer. My OG switch is an older version that can be firmware hacked and I thought this might increase its value on eBay but everyone is trying to sell their OG hackable switch so it seems difficult to sell. I'm heading to EB tomorrow to do the trade-in for cash. I have an OLED switch and thought I'd hold on for a switch 2 trade-in deal but I'll take this deal now.

  • Do they test the consoles in store? My Xbox One X has an issue that was 'repaired' under their reboot program that never fixed the issue. I just can't see them testing the consoles in from of me before paying me out.

    • +2

Nope, they’re sent away for testing. They will have your details on file though but I’m not sure the lengths they’d go to if they came across a dodgy trade-in.

  • So I gave the trade-in a go on my OG switch. The manager at my local store in NSW was fully aware of the terms so wouldn't apply any bonuses for trade-in. Should have read the fine print more closely because you can't get cash in NSW, only store credit. The credit in question has to be applied to pre orders and doesn't just sit on your account to be used when you feel like it, at least that is the impression I got. I didn't go through with it cause I think EB is a rip and I won't park my credit with them on pre orders. I will wait for Switch 2 and just take the $150-$200 off they will probably offer for trading in the OG switch for the Switch 2.

    • +1

The workaround would be having the credit applied to a pre-order that’s ages away and moving it somewhere else if needed sooner.

  • Traded in my daughter’s PS5 digital for cash this morning. For anyone wondering, you lose $40 if you don’t have a controller which isn’t bad considering the cheapest I could find was $50 on Marketplace.

$340 isn’t bad to avoid the haggling lowballers or paying exorbitant fees on eBay and organising shipping.
