    You could buy 100 double edge safety razors for the same price. Small learning curve but hard to go back once you try them.

      Yeah I've done both - agree the shave is far better with the safety, but sometimes I just need something quick and fast and for that, Mach 3 wins.

    Are there any more made in Germany mach 3 or are all these made in China?

    I’m asking because only the German ones were sharp and lasted long and the rest I had to bin after a couple of shaves

      Yep the mach3 sold on Amazon are of poor quality. You feel a big difference after a couple of shaves. Rather buy them at the supermarket when they go on half price special. They last for ages.

    Been using mach3 over 20years on head and face almost daily and love them , definitely prefer them over 5 blades ones that seem wildly expensive and get clogged so easy.

    Just wondering with the battery powered handheld razors you can get now to shave the head how do they compare too the mach 3s, if any one any good feed back?

      I used them for years too. A few years ago shifted to the Schick equivalent and tbh they work better.
      Agree the three blade seem better than the five blades, at least for my whiskers.

      Agreed. Been shaving head for 20+ years with Mach 3. Tried 4 and 5, tried Schick, they all suck in comparison. Also the cheaper Mach 3 handles made of plastic are arse. Have to find the metal ones for the correct weight in the hand but I'm pretty sure they're still lighter than my OG ones (rubber has perished, RIP).

      Probably should try safety razor to save coin but face is one thing, head is another.

      Got the stuff and tried it for a while but found it really difficult around a couple freckles, and it didn't do my neck well at all.

      I'm sure big safety razor peeps will say there's some kind of adjustment I ought to make. But it's a fair bit of effort to get it all right, in my experience. I'll certainly try again at some point.

        There’s certainly a learning curve. I try to keep the blade very clean by washing it regularly in between runs. Also working out which angle works for different parts of the face. I don’t really go to back to a part of the skin and change direction until I have relathered, even though the temptation is there is save time.

    Have not bought a Gillette product since they spat out the toxic masculinity rubbish, and I don't plan to resume doing business with them. Aldi have been my go-to for shaving products of late, and they are every bit as good without the added bonus of shaming me for being a man.

        I stopped using Gillete when they released their woke ads and will never use them again. I switched to to safety razors which are cheaper and give a better shave

      If you are going to do something decisive as a brand, at least make sure you aren't easily replaceable by about 100 other different brands products 🤣

      It's funny how much it triggers the lefties when they see people are STILL boycotting a product that went balls deep in their idiotic ideology years ago. Like why all the downvotes guys? Why does it matter to you that we aren't buying some multinational companies products??

    Would love tips on safety razors - got the Gilette King C and Merkur 34C - both i end up cutting myself or getting iritation. I've used both safety razors for 2-3 months each - collectively about 6 months and rotated between Feather Platinum, Gilette King C and Muhle German blades. Tried to angle the razor so it's closer and further away from skin and no dice.

    Would love anyone's input on whether there is a better razer handle/system for me because i've done my best to try and use them and like them but no luck.

    Would a oneblade be better (not talking about the philips one….) or Rockwell?

    Used multiple shaving creams/gels if someone is going to suggest that - all for sensitive skin too. Poraso, Generic (gilette/store bought) all the way to aesop/Kiehls

      I had similar issues starting off but found it requires quite a bit of patience to find the very delicate sweet spot angle (and pressure) that cuts hairs without nicks or irritation and then develop the skill to be able to hold it while following facial contours.

      Consider it's different for each safety razor so I'd focus on one razor, lowering the angle of attack aggressiveness as much as possible and only shaving with the grain until you really get the knack, which took me a few months.

      I also found just the froth from regular foaming shaving creams is enough to throw my feel off the angle a bit.

      I have a Rockwell that has adjustable spacers for the blades and while it took quite a while to get comfortable using it, I’m more than happy with it now.

      Blades appear to be more of a personal thing with different shavers and skin types. Wilkinson Sword are my choice & have been for a while.

      I tried a few different soaps and brushes, but I’m happy with different shaving creams or soaps straight on the face at the end of a shower. A small mirror hung on a suction cup lives in the gym bag so that I can have a shave in the shower there as well.

      If you don't already, leave the shaving soap on for ~2 minutes before shaving (after a hot shower too). Helps to soften the hairs I think. Also try not to use any pressure (or very little pressure) on the razor as you shave.

      Ive got an extremely thick beard and I persisted with a safety razor for probably a decade, I bought all sorts of models of razor (including a Merkur Vision), fancy shave creams and tried various blades and techniques that just never seemed to give me a comfortable shave. I ended up giving up and going back to cartridge razors and Sanofi Shave cream which works out the same cost at the end of the day. While the shave isn't quite as close, I don't have a neck full of razorburn anymore.

    Gilette King C user here with Wilkinson sword DE blades.

    I put a hot, damp cloth on my face for a few minutes.

    I heat a tiny ceramic bowl with a dash of water in microwave for 1 min. Then I add some proraso shaving soap and apply the lather on my face. Make sure the lather is thick enough that it conceals your skin.

    I stretch my skin using my spare hand and make small strokes with light pressure. I apply lather again then shave against the grain. Take extra care when shaving this way.

    I apply sorbolene after shaving then apply again before bed. This helps with irritation.

    I'm fairly new to this method of shaving. I'm still learning. Don't rush the shave and you'll avoid serious nicks.

    You can never have too much lather but you can always have too little.

    There's some decent YouTube tutorials out there.

    I shave in the shower using King C clear gel. For me:
    * unit cost per shave is higher for mach3 (mach3: $2.50ea, DE safety razor $0.15ea), and while I do get more shaves from one mach3 unit it's not 16x as many.
    * time cost is lower for mach3 (mach3: 3 mins, DE 5 mins). I can't shave as fast with the DE.
    * effort cost is lower for mach3 (I don't have to concentrate).
    * final product is better with mach3 (closer shaved face).

    Just wanted to put out there that it is not universal that a DE will give a better shaving experience, shaven face, or even have lower TCO (how much is your time worth?)…
