Will this make my local 4k Plex streaming buffer less than my old non-wifi 6 modem?

Never mind, the LG G1 doesn't even have wifi 6.

Buy a WiFi 6 mesh kit with at least one ethernet port on the satellite unit, put that near your TV so your TV connects to it via a LAN cable.

      • I just realised my current modem doesn't even have wifi 5, I'll give this one a burl and try your solution if it's no good.

Ethernet over power line is another option

You also need to consider the plex server, if its raspberrypi, make sure it has good upload speed by plugging to Ethernet

  • ATL $124?

I was using telstra gen 2 modem on superloop nbn, I bought TPLINK AX10 WiFi 6 router for $69 from GGC and noticed only extra 1mbps speed increase. Range was bit better outside house. But I didn't feel it's worth, so returned and back to telstra router.

When it come to TPLink, their wired speed is fine, but when it come wireless they're misleading, wireless signal become weaker and stronger for no reason, they can't seem to keep stable wireless connection.

Pretty decent generalisation. I feel ppl make such comments based on their own experience but there’s so many options, models, firmware and variables to consider. I highly doubt those ppl who much such claims have tests 25 different Tplink units in small med and large settings but each to their own opinions i guess

    • But your internet speed is limited by the service you paid for?

These TP Link routers useful for local network streaming and file sharing. A new wifi 6 router is not going to magically give you extra internet bandwidth.

      • Agree, I'm saying to average joe like me who don't do much other than streaming, to not tempted to get a expensive router thinking they might get extra speeds.

        • This is where a bit of research should give you the right answer.

The telstra gen 2 modern still runs the old wifi protocol AC whereas the AX10 is on wifi 6. Firstly, you will only get the benefit if your devices like phone can utilise the wifi 6 protocol. You are basically future proofing for $69 which is actually very cheap for a wifi 6 router. You get better range and more stable connection, which will lead to better utilisation of bandwidth in awkward areas in your house. Moreover, the AX10 can be used in a mesh (OneMesh) with other compatible devices to create one giant network in your home with almost no deadzone.

I would have probably kept the AX10 as it is a good deal.

          • @KaTst3R: I'm building a house and looking at different options for modems/mesh networks etc. I've seen a few deals pop up on here for different devices but I have no idea what to look for. I basically just want to give max wifi range for the house. Will have data ports for the theatre, office, lounge room etc so it's only really for portable devices. Any advice crew?

Has been cheaper and the Pro is usually available for around this price on ebay 20% off sales

  • I’ve had this for nearly 2 years and it’s been ok, it does randomly drop signal strength at times but a restart usually remedies that.
