    Thank goodness for Aldi.

Not as pretty or robust as this probably, but I also can buy 3 or 4 Aldi two burner portables for the price of just one of these.

For anyone in the market for a portable BBQ such as this please do LOTS of research and be sure to compare all reviews before spending/wasting your hard earned cash. Don't do what I did and think as others have & still do that cheaper BBQs will do the same as the better, more expensive units because most of the time they just won't cut it!

Bought a $150 Bunnings cheapie 2-burner with a hood which worked OK but really chew through the gas when roasting… it was unbelieveable. It also rusted very quickly as it was being used & stored near the ocean and I had to replace it within 12 months. I replaced it with a far better quality version from a leading BBQ store that cost arond $300-$350 and that one worked about twice as well and was about twice the quality which was great but still didn't cut the mustard as it couldn't heat up as much as I needed it to and the heat control was woeful plus it also started rusting in places but much better than the other one.

I refused to believe that blowing several hundred dollars on a Weber Q was justified… until I eventually crumbled and bought a Q220 with the stand and a few accessories. That was 3 years ago and it's absolutely f*cking amazing! Perfect heat control, heats up very quickly and reaches incredible temps and uses hardly any gas in the process. I've cooked fatty sausages & onions in it and then thrown a chocolate cake in straight after and it cooked both perfectly without even crossing flavours. It's all proper cast alloy and ceramic coated grilles so I haven't seen even the slightest bit of rust forming either… and I've even cooked on the beach with it too directly on the sand! Worth every cent and if I'd just got over my own silly opinions and bought a 'Q' straight up I would've saved around $500 by not having to buy the other two first.

Not saying the one in this deal is bad as it's obviously a new model and looks pretty good and I'm pretty sure the latest Everdure unit would also give the Weber a run for its money but please do not think all BBQs are the same because the differences are HUGE.

    My 2c anyway :)

  • Differences in BBQs indeed. I only see BBQ's galore Ziegler & Brown unit for $399 as a legitimate competitor to the Beefeater BUGG. Here's a rundown of their differences:

    • gas controls: Z&B has it on the front, the BUGG on the rear. Z&B is better positions.
    • hotplates: Z&B comes with two wire style ones, BUGG has one of those and a full cast iron one so can cook onions etc. Z&B has a optional $50 to do that. So BUGG is better.
    • warranty: Z&B has 5years on the firebox, BUGG has 2years. Z&B is better.
    • price: Z&B is $399 and BUGG is $314 here, BUGG is better value.

I don't consider the Weber Q220 in the same category even if they are priced the same. Reason being it is only single burner, has no temperature gauge and required cooking with the hood down. I believe it's got a great warranty though.

    • Yep awesome warranty… I tested it by being a dumb-ass and accidentally left the plastic side shelves folded in after ignition. I just caught it before it did much damage to the BBQ itself but the shelves were a write off however a simple call to Weber and I got sent two new ones within a few days all for free and delivered by courier to my very remote location. Couldn't be better than that!

No temp gauge on the Q220? Strange because I rely on mine every time I cook: http://www.grillr.com/Weber_Q_Grills/Weber_Q-220_Grill.html

Single burner and hood-down cooking has never caused problems and is very beneficial when it comes to amazing gas efficiency BUT it does require you to completely adjust your BBQ'ing method yes, I agree there. No biggie tho as it isn't difficult to get used to.

No plate as standard is a shame though… I mean how hard would it be for Weber to redesign the plate to at least give the buyer the option for a 60/40 or all solid or all grill?

      • Whoops.. Q220 has the gauge. Q200 that I saw at Masters and BBQs galore didn't have the gauge. The person who wanted the BBQ didn't want to always cook with the lid down. Said the flavors are different. The Q200 was then eliminated from the shortlist only leaving the BUGG and Z&B.

        • Ha yeah, I was just rubbing it in :) The 220 is the 'Special Edition' of the 200… you know, the edition that gives you $5 worth of extras for $50 more :) Seriously though it's an amazing little BBQ and I'd love to compare all these other new competitors side-by-side but alas I don't have $2000 spare to do so.
