Prepaid SIM for Receiving SMS Overseas

Hello,

Previously I've used Optus Flex ($1 per day) to receive text messages whilst overseas.

So long as had a single day where it was active every 186 days, it was fine.

Now I can't seem to recharge with this - cheapest is now $12 for 7 days.

What alternatives do you suggest for porting to prior to going overseas?

Would be great if we could top up and recharge it quickly upon landing back in Australia.

Thanks

Flexiroam is free if you have a Latitude 28degrees mastercard.

Also they have a promo that finishes tonight for 20% off their paid plans: Use Promo Code: 20OFF

  • Who is your current service provider? Do they not offer any sort of roaming?

  • I might be incorrect but I have lived in the UK for nearly 2 years and I have never been charged to RECEIVE a text message on my old iPhone that sits in my drawer unless I need a Aus bank code. I plan to change from Telstra to amaysim next time I am in Australia(had the Telstra sim through my previous employer on a discounted now obsolete plan which I am guessing I’ll be booted off quite soon).

I am happy to be corrected here but that is my experience.

  • We use Amaysim and buy a roaming pack but pause our regular plan and just reinstate it when we get back. We still receive SMS as long as we have roaming plan credit.

    • Sounds like a winner. Thanks
