JFC enough is enough with these "deals".

    Thanks grabbed 10…

I upvoted the first 243,841 ppl to make this joke but wouldn't you know, we've just now passed that and it's finally not funny

      • +4

        Thanks!! Just Downvoted -10

Hey, take it easy on the new guy….oh wait he’s been around for ages, carry on

      • +2

The fun police have entered the chat… the partys over everyone.

      • -3

It's more fun to say this than buying so expensive & soon outdated due to new & better models each year.
UBS engineers tested BYD Seal & concluded superior engineering, with 15% price edge over Tesla & 30% edge over European incumbents.
        https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2023/09/05/byd-intro…

        • -1

I'm with you, I much prefer BYD.

        • +4

          UBS engineers tested

Say what? Where did Forbes describe this in the linked article? Must've been an earlier iteration of that article, because it's not there currently so either it was BS or a mistake.

From the same link (fml is this the quality of their research analysts these days?):

UBS said the Seal has an impressive digital setup, with 5G, a big rotating screen and karaoke.

          • +1

@inamberclad: Forbes arent a source to be trusted IMO, but there are other reviews out there that agree apart from the Telsastans.

      • -1

I thought it was the most creative thing to say. Never in my life i thought someone would actually buy 11 of them. But if it was me all, and I saw this comment. I would be very angry and to spite you, I would go out and actually buy 11 and then come back to this comment and “ha SUCK ON THAT, I actually bought 11 Tesla, so it wasn’t a joke so SUCK ON THAT”

    • +14

      I still find this funny

      • +2

        That’s on you

    • +6

Not many wouldn't agrees with me but I rather spend little bit more and buy a C200 or 330i, even its 3sec slower and enjoy the style.

      • +1

        Agreed.
I don't think I'll be moving away from ice anytime soon.
Ironically they are holding value every well still.. I have a feeling there will be still some shifting back to ICE. Maybe when battery tech and charging improve in the years to come it would be more appealing but for now, no ev for me

      • 100%. Something like a new 330i would be a superb car to get around in.

      • what's the reliability and ongoing costs like? will it last 10 yrs?

        • +1

If you worried about reliability, buy a Japanese car. But if i got a 100k, I rather drop it on a C200 or 330i, they are both very nice cars to drive new.
Tesla is way too minimalistic for the price, even with 3s/100, i find it boring for my money. Have a test drive all three and get back to me.

          • @boomramada: Lexus gives some luxury but is also reliable

            • @fredblogs: Smell Toyota, joke a side, some featurs on euro cars are bit thoughtful.

          • @boomramada: Stupid thinking you are paying for overpriced German poor reliability vehicle. Times have changed. Saving on petrol and maintenance is huge. B4 this anything at 3sec by Germans would be seen as wow, now bloody haters changed to it doesn't matter style is more important.
            What a load of crap.

            • @neostarsx: Tesla Model 3 Performance = overpriced EV, nothing more. :)

Saving on petrol and maintenance is huge

Sure, go and buy an MG4. I'm not here to argue about EV vs ICE, it's just those two German cars I mentioned are wayyyyyyyyy nicer for a similar price range. I have test driven a Tesla Model 3 Performance, fast yes, but way too boring/simplistic for my extra $30K over Model 3.

At 3s/100km, don't even have a front instrument panel to tell you when to slow down before the speed limit. that's just lame.

            • @neostarsx: Agreed. Picked up my M3 few weeks ago. Makes my petrol car feel like a steam train.

          • @boomramada: If you got 100K you are buying new in warranty so reliablity is less of an issue except for its affect on resale.

  • +49

Bespoke performance design? is that just another way of saying quality of build is so inconsistent that no two cars look the same?

    • +1

You might be smoking news from 2019. All their cars are nowadays MIC and the quality is same as other brands and consistent.

      • +3

I was just making fun of the word bespoke. The word bespoke is generally when something is a one-off custom product. If Tesla only made one model 3 performance that it would be appropriate use of the word.

        • -3

You're also spreading FUD about the build quality. They're no longer a startup, and the quality is basically "good"… people get defensive about seeing something they appreciate lied about I guess? Bought one.. Will be my 2nd, because the 2021 was also "good"

          • +4

@DisasterArea: Jesus, it's a joke on the word 'Bespoke'. Tesla drivers have zero chill

            • +4

@Brick Tamland: Tesla fans love larping as car enthusiasts but immediately malm their spaghetti as soon as the culturally significant ritual of brand-roasting occurs.

They do not yet have the constitution or mental fortitude to pass this coming of age they need to survive the wilderness, which we did when we were just boys. The only roasting they know is molten cobalt thermal runaways after flat-footing into a post office.

But I have faith that with enough training they will rise to the Trial of the Braves. I am sure if they watching enough unboxing videos on YouTube or hone their crypto-rugpull reflexes they will stand-up and be counted amongst the men.

They will stand proudly at a press conference, and the metal balls will ping off their Tesla ® Armor Glass™ like water on stone.

              • @Unleash3896: Hahahaha, perfect. Half the fun of being a car enthusiast is the banter and putting down each others rides. There is a difference b/w car enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts.

          • @DisasterArea: Why are Tesla people always like this?

            • @Ipodisclassic: Because they have exerted so much money, energy and commitment to the brand it’s become a major part of their personality. An attack on Tesla is a personal attack. The other 90% of the Tesla population who don’t whine on the internet about it don’t give a toss and realise that it’s just a car and appreciate that no one else really cares.

  • Its crazy to think this new model could do sub 11second quarter mile times. In the 10s from a factory car costing 82K.

The new Model 3 Performance offers more power (510 total HP) https://cleantechnica.com/2024/04/23/tesla-model-3-ludicrous…

Anyone else think this is totally unnecessary on Australian roads and should be limited to tracks only for the full experience?
    or
    Maybe i am getting old.

    • +6

It's actually only 460HP for the Australian version, but still quick.
If people don't want to drive it fast they could always enable Chill mode, but if you're wanting that, then there's probably not much point getting the Performance model in the first place and the SR would probably suffice.

      • +1

Why does the Australian version miss out on 50hp?

        • +8

Different battery & output power. Fremont-built versions are equipped with a Panasonic 82 kWh battery vs our Shanghai-built's LG 79kWh.

          More info here

          • +5

@nxllson: Oh boy LG chem batteries…No thanks

          • +1

@nxllson: So might well as buy BYD if it is made in china, atleast with BYD you get awesome looking car

            • @SteveD: The car is fine, the software is shit. Too much lag and harder to use.
Tesla has poor build quality, but at least give them credit where it’s due - their software is way better than others.

    • +5

Is it rolling start, or from stop line

    • +21

Id rather have stalk indicators and non-touch screen ac controls rather than a car that can do sub 11 lol.

    • +10

I rented a model S (not sure year, not new) last year for kicks as I've never driven an electric car up to that point and just wanted to see what the fuss is all about.

They're outside of my price range unfortunately but holy hell are they fun. People always goes on about instantaneous torque and I just had no idea what that meant.

    • It's more about getting on and off the highway faster + being able to overtake slower drivers easier too.

  • +19

Wow that is a bargain! Incredible value for 0-100 in 3.1s

    • +12

Just imagine a bunch of old people getting the pedals mixed up, 100kmh in 3 seconds. The carnage

      • +3

If a particular driver is actually seriously likely to make this mistake, they should have their licence taken away.

        • -8

It might not be the driver's fault.

      • +7

Still safer than the same old people driving those damn huge 4x4…

      • When do you become old?

    • Yes that feature people use every day. I know the first thing I look at is how fast it can accelerate instead of any practical features.

      • +6

So you’ve never heard of sports cars?

        • +1

Yep! They're great if you can use them. Not so great in Australia where you'll mostly be cruising at 60km/h.

          • +1

@DingoBilly: There's plenty of twisty roads to have bit of legal and safe fun, should one be inclined to do a track day or two they're amazing in their own rights.

But I agree with ya mostly, $135 for a tank on a cheap fuel day for ~500km is not easy to swallow.

          • @DingoBilly: You could argue that for most sports cars, yet Porsche still sells a whole heap of Boxsters, Caymans and 911 each year

  • +20

Supercar numbers for sub $80k is actually a pretty good deal ngl.

    • +1

I bet the insurance wont be cheap

      • +8

Everything is not cheap these days.

      • as opposed to insurance for the supercars

        • +2

          This isnt a supercar

          • +1

@Brick Tamland: Its faster than some

            • +1

@jalwa: Maybe. Still not a super car. Hyundai i30n is faster than a Ferrari 348. Is a Hyundai a supercar?

      • -4

Insurance depends on the car value not how quick it is.

    • Yeah, who needs sporty handling, braking or even looks to go with quick 0-100 times?

  • +21

0-100 in 3.1 seconds. About the same time it takes for Tesla to drop the price on their cars.

    • +12

The thing that’s faster than a Tesla in a straight line is a Tesla in its deprecation

  • +23

$89822 in NSW, wow what a bargain.

    OzRRP strikes again.

    • +2

I don't think it is a bargain in of itself and shouldn't be on ozbargain, but I do think compared to other cars, for something that is 0-100 in 3.1s, includes the tech it does, and has such low running costs, it is a good deal compared to alternatives. I don't think that is what ozbargain is though.

        • +7

what part is confusing to you?

          • -3

            @greennick:

and has such low running costs

            • +2

@jv: yeah, how is that confusing?

              • -4

@greennick: It's not true in many cases

            • +1

@jv: Why is this confusing? Or, since you're always trol^H^H^H^Hcommenting on Tesla posts, you're probably just pretending to be confused, but for what purpose?

              • -5

                @chuq:

                Why is this confusing?

It's not true in many cases

                • +9

@jv: Bolding your reply doesn't stop you from being wrong.

                  • -8

@chuq: Commenting on a person's writing style doesn't stop you from being wrong.

      • +2

So there's no bargain, no discount, no extras. Maybe it could be a forum advising its release but this isn't OzGoodComparedToOtherCarsForThePriceAndPerformanceAndTech, and $10K for full self drive with a disclaimer you must stay awake and attentive?

Buying a tesla remains an IQ test, and if you do it might be somewhere between your shoe size and room temperature.

        • +1

Why do you think someone has to be stupid to buy one?

Agree it shouldn't be on here though as there is no discount or inclusions to make it a deal.

          • +2

            @greennick:

Why do you think someone has to be stupid to buy one?

At these prices, sure, that would help.

      • -2

Overpriced fashion/cult. BYD (& other Chinese brands) has much better value & new battery tech will make this waste of money.
0-100km/h in AU capitals will make you lose your license in seconds :( & the Tesla tax goes to weapons against the remaining world. >us$95 to kill more just now)
I'm waiting for BYD Seagull that costs from AU$13-21k in China with advanced sodium batt option.

        • I agree BYD has better value, but it’s not really an option for fast acceleration.
I also personally find the autopilot (auto steer) feature really helpful for highways.
I’m aware many other cars (BMW, Mercedes) also have this, not sure about BYD.

    • +15

Equivalent Polestar 4 is over 100k and doesn't come under the limit for FBT exemption, so is not a deal to a good amount of the people buying these.

      • -1

        Why does FBT matter?

        • If you lease an EV valued below the LCT cut off, you avoid FBT penalties. It becomes a relatively attractive proposition vs an equivalently priced ICE car for higher income earners.

    • +2

      Thanks for the laugh.

    • +15

Another Chinese EV parading its virtue and history by faking to be Swedish. Chinese owned, Chinese made yet still 3-4 times the price of their counterparts.

And before anyone says China bashing, I've got no qualms against Chinese products, just the companies that market the shit sandwich and say it's roast beef.

      • +2

Designed and HQ in Sweden. The people who runs it is Swedish employing a full Swedish team. While the Chinese do the manufacturing. Their cars from concept to design philosophy is very Scandinavian. There are no other cars like it from a Chinese brand.

      • 3-4 times really? Please name one so I can have a test drive.

      • +5

While the share ownership is Chinese but the company is independently operated. Two thirds of the world's EVs were produced in China, including brands like BMW, Tesla, Kia.

        These companies are not Chinese

  • +22

I own a previous generation Model 3 Performance so I'm not hating on the car, but this is not a bargain. It's being sold for full price.
