Don't believe I've seen the 745 this cheap before. Still being sold on the Garmin website so I assume it isn't discontinued yet.

  • Thats some AliExpress delivery times right there!

AliExpress has sorted it's game and under 12 days delivery for most items

      • Two items never showed up recently from different sellers and Alixpress did nothing to refund me. One of the items was delivered to a house on the other side of the country for some reason.

My experience has been completely opposite to yours. 99% items show up with Auspost tracking, always try to order items with choice logo on it as that's covered under free return as well.

Some untraceable cables didn't show up, but AliExpress refunded straight away

        • Attaching a random tracking number [to anywhere in Australia] to the order is a scam sellers use. I had to get a refund for one such order, and AliExpress should support you. I managed to find out enough about the tracked item to prove it wasn't what I had ordered.

AliExpress have otherwise provided awesome shipping speed and reliability of late.

  • Anyone upgraded from a forerunner 235?

Looks like it has Garmin Pay and music that is an extra

  • This or a samsung smartwatch, mainly need it for gym workouts, music, contactless pay and battery life

      re: contactless pay

You will find that garminpay has much less bank support than samsung smartwatch

      https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/garminpay/banks/

But it should work if your bank is in the list

      • Do smart watches handle payment themselves or does it is it simply a proxy for phone payment?

I have a rooted phone so by default it breaks payment support, but I do want to use it via a smart watch. Is the phone required for how Garmin or Samsung implement their payment methods?

        • What I believe is the setup requires your phone, but after that the smart watch handles the PayPass/PayWave on its own.

What would be interesting is whether the setup phase checks for your phone's rooted state.

          • @juns: bugger, that might be an issue…

            thanks for the reply!

      battery life

This is the killer benefit of the Forerunners - most of us can count on 1+ week between charges. I do 1 activity most days, occasional contactless pay and SMS notifications and no battery anxiety.

      • Yep my forerunner 235 was purchased Aug 2017 and use it a few time as week for activities. Battery life is still a week between charges. Been very happy with it and looking at upgrading

      • It says GPS + Music = 6hours. If i take GPS off can i just use bluetooth music and my phone network for watch payments without draining the battery? Hows the heart rate monitor on it also?

I just ordered one, i don't mind the red colour also.

        • GPS is only used while you’re doing an outdoor workout. So unless you’re planning a six-hour run or ride with music before you use the payment feature, it’ll be fine.

You can use Bluetooth music without having GPS switched on.

You do not need GPS or Bluetooth switched on to use the payments feature. You don’t even need your phone with you.

All that said, this watch will be discontinued any minute. It’s old.

      • I use an Apple Watch. Charge every night. No battery anxiety here.

    • I have the Samsung Watch 4. I have to charge it daily as it won't last through the second day. Charging to full daily is still about 45 mins. Charging to full from 0% is about 2 hours+. So you spend at least 45 mins a day without the watch. I don't think Samsung has fixed this in later versions either.

If I have to choose again, I probably won't go with the Samsung Smartwatch for this reason. Maybe choose something that has fast charge so that you can charge it daily when you go take a shower or something. Just my 2c.

    $565 now

    • I wonder if $339 was a pricing error. Great bargain if people bought at that price

    • Price is still there if you choose Amazon AU

      • I see it says Amazon.com.au and still shows $565

        • yes, it has disappeared now.

RRP $899?? Thats like top of the line 965 prices.

  • Still holding out for fenix 8….

  • I just checked and it's showing $565 from a third party seller. From seller Amazon AU however it shows $899. They jacked it up to full price.

  • Showing $565 for me

  • Damn I would have possibly pulled the trig
