Lebara PAYG Standard Plan $7 for The First 365 Days, $10 365 Day Recharges Afterwards Delivered @ Lebara

1920

This is the cheapest possible way to get a number, park a number, use for OTP or sign up to marketing spam in Australia for a whole year. Free incoming texts when roaming in the countries listed in the CIS.

The total cost of $7 in the first year consists of the $2 SIM (eSIM available) and the first $5 activation credit valid for the first 365 days. Subsequent recharges are $10 and last for 365 days. It has cheaper calls to 13/1300 numbers, cheaper data and generally cheaper international rates (e.g. same SMS price for national and international numbers) compared to amaysim's $10 option.

Lebara PAYG Standard plan uses Vodafone 4G network.

  • Standard national calls: 15c/min
  • 1800 numbers: Unlimited
  • Standard national and international text: 15c
  • Data: 3c/MB
  • Standard national and international MMS: 25c

    • So in theory you should have the combined coverage of both

Depends on the terms of the deal and only subject to the expected ACCC approval since the ACCC recommended it when it blocked the Telstra/TPG deal. Telstra's or anyone else's lawyers will be earning their money if they can convince the ACCC otherwise.

By the way does anyone know if these mvnos also have WiFi calling?

amaysim has it so presumably other Optus MVNOs too. Lebara says it supports it.

There really isn't any reason to regard it as a premium feature. The crappier network coverage the carrier has the more reason to have it.

Oh and just because VoLTE works with Vodafone or one of their MVNOs on a phone that is no guarantee it will work with Lebara.

      • Thanks, will watch this.. WiFi calling works for me since generally coverage is ok in my area, except if I happen to be in the back of my house.

Oh but VoLTE has to work with Lebara since there is no 3G now on Vodafone, everyone cannot make voice calls on Lebara otherwise!

    • The sharing is only applicable for regional btw

I think I've just discovered the next level of this deal… how to get a SIM/number active for just the $2 initial purchase, without the $5 top-up.

    Here's what I did:
    - Purchased the eSim for $2 from the Lebara site
    - Went through activation journey. Because I failed the credit card verification checks, it asked me to upload a copy of ID. I did.
    - Gave me a long alphanumeric code, and "verification pending" message
    - Called up Lebara customer support
    - Gave them that long code.
    - They activated my account immediately within seconds.
    - I then added the eSim to my Samsung phone using the QR code in the email.
    - Connected to network immediately.
    - I then logged onto my Lebara account on the web (phone number + PIN they text you once you add your eSim to your phone).
    - Went into some settings part of the menu, where it said to "activate" you need to get a 6-digit code sent to your Lebara number. This was quick and easy.
    - On my dashboard, my expiry date is now 1 year later, despite having not bought the $5 top-up. Just the initial $2 SIM.

IMO exactly what I wanted, as I need a number just to receive calls, texts, OTP, etc.

    • Good find. Bit too ambiguous to post as a deal as there's no info on it. Are calls and text working?

      • +1

I've tried incoming calls and texts, both work fine. Haven't tried outgoing. Or data. But assume not since there's no credit.

    • This is rather clever :)

    • -This was quick and easy. lol.
It is long list task For A Few Dollar More

    • No idea why my CC is failing the check too, I used the same one to buy the $2 esim.. it doesn't start well..

  • I have ported my number to Lebara. I'm overseas and needed it for incoming txt. Unfortunately I have no reception. Is an international roaming pack required which costs an additional $15? If this is the case it's not a good deal for overseas use..

    • Roaming is available in selected countries listed above. No additional packs needed.

      • Thanks, I'm in Germany so it should work. I also contacted Lebara and they confirmed that I need a roaming pack for it to work.

        • Are you using the PAYG plan or a regular plan? The free incoming sms when roaming is from the CIS for the PAYG plan.

  • Does Lebara have a nice interface to manage a few sim cards, like the Amaysim app/portal? Just to see expires, numbers etc.

  • Good deal, but would rather avoid the worst telco network coverage across Australia.

  • how may services can you have with them?
I use a few passive SMS apps, where i get paid to receive SMS

  • I'm in

  • The linked page says "The minimum recharge value is $10 and there’s a 365 day expiry."
    What am I missing?

  • Will this work when overseas to receive OTPs?

    • If you're in a country where Lebara offer roaming. A Telstra MVNO would be better as you can also receive SMS via VoWiFi outside roaming countries.

  • I ordered a Lebara sim and received it in the mail. But I don't know how to access the $7 PAYG plan? When I installed the app and tried to follow all the steps, it only lists much more expensive plans and no PAYG option appears.

Can someone tell me how I activate this deal with my new sim card please ?

    Thankyou 🙏

    • Haven't used the app. Try the web interface or activate by calling support.

      • @Stingo Thanks for your reply👍 I did end up trying the website after posting here and thankfully the website had the PAYG option, very strange that the app does not have it.

        • +1

Wouldn't be the first time different functionality was offered in an app vs online. PAYG is something Lebara don't appear to be that keen on advertising. amaysim is the same in that respect. You have to know where to look find info on PAYG plans on both their web sites.

          • @Stingo: You know, I had a feeling that's what was going on. Really don't like it when companies do this, but the main thing is they still offer it!👍

  • Will this work with apple watch

  • eSIM compatible devices

    https://www.lebara.com.au/support/esim/

I don't get it. Is this like the 3G screwup where they block your phone for no reason? Do the telcos or MVNOs have to engineer, if that's the right word, on their end, individually for every single phone model for them to work? Or is it a general, system fix so that all esim capable phones work?

"You can also dial *#06# to quickly verify if your device is eSIM compatible.

If it is, a 32-digit EID number will display on your screen."

Yes to that, but no to being on their lists. Do I ignore the lists?

    • Are you looking for a solution or just want to complain?

If you want solution provide your phone make / model and other people can help you out.

    • +1

It's just a ploy to make it easy for them to tell you to go away should there been any issues they can't be bothered putting much effort into resolving. You'll find that your moto G75 is not on the Approved Devices either. Your device may work or it may not unless you can find someone with a G75 who uses Lebara who can tell you for sure you'll need to suck it and see. FWIW, that list is no guarantee that a phone will work. My friend has a phone with a SIM from another TPG MVNO that phone is on Lebara's approved device list yet my Lebara SIM didn't work in his phone or mine (not on the list). His SIM however worked fine in my phone. Lebara told me to go away. In the end I made my phone work by rooting it since the distributor didn't want to help either.

      • Lebara Esim works on Motorola G75 without any fuss.

        • As will probably the vast majority of phones but I would like to read how Lebara responds when people seek "approval in writing" for using phones not on their approved list.

  • "Are you looking for a solution or just want to complain?"

Both. I can fart and chew gum at the same time. Lebara with Motorola G75 since you ask.

  • Is this still a thing or as it gone up in price?

    April 2025.

  • Can you choose your phone number from a list of available options with Lebara or is it just a random number? I have a long expiry sim from Amaysim for $10 a year and was able to choose a number that was similar to my primary number so it wasn't hard for me to remember my new secondary phone number.

  • Basically $5 with esim for full year ? just to receive sms.

    • $2 for sim or esim

  • min recharge says $10? so $12 with sim for first year now?

  • +1

Can confirm that it still works with $5 recharge. I ported my amaysim number on the 29th of April

    • Same here. Just done porting from Amaysim to this on Esim

  • Nice

  • Amaysim PAYG has better rates except your 13 numbers and have had no issues with coverage either.
And incoming texts while roaming free as well.

  • Anyone used this for a pixel 3 watch? I am having troubles adding the esim to the watch

  • I was told that you can just buy the $5 data pack to extend the number for another year. Havent tried it myself though.

  • Amaysim PAYG is free, AFAIK? I have 2 numbers parked them and didn't cost a thing.

    • Are you sure you didn’t pay $10/365 days?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/777559

      • No, I did pay initially but once that runs out. I choose PAYG with $0 on going cost

    • how did you get it for free?

      • You need to switch to them and once the post paid credit runs out, switch to PAYG with no ongoing cost.

i need something like this for UK number
    Any ideas?
    Peace

    • This is not UKBargain.

    • +1

You need a UK delivery address. Buy O2 classic sim from UK ebay for 99p, top up £10.

Every 179 days you need to send an SMS to a UK number to keep it active. No need to top up.

From Australia the SMS costs 50p. So you can keep it alive for 20x 179 days = almost 10 years.

I don't know if it will really last for 10 years because I go to the UK once a year anyway.

Alternatively look into AAISP VoIP £1.20/month

  • Does anyone know how to turn off voicemail fully on Lebara and just let it ring out. It was so simple with amaysim and aldimobile. Thx

  • Can I use one of the other Sims that are half price and do this?

  • FYI, you have 80 days of no credit to recharge before losing number

  • Is it possible to gift data to a Lebara PAYG plan, from another Lebara plan (eg. from a 360 day plan)?

    • I want to know as well if the data gift can be given from prepaid plan to another prepaid. Thanks

  • +3

Thanks OP, I just got this working, for the $7 total outlay as you described.

A few pointers for anyone else trying (I selected eSIM with email delivery):

    • I used the online web-browser-on-PC method, not the app, and it let me add $5 credit.
    • although it let me use PayPal for the initial $2 SIM/eSIM purchase, the only option for purchasing credit is to enter a valid debit or credit card, and you can't progress until you have. I used a debit card.
    • although they emailed the QR code and "confirmation code" almost immediately (in two separate emails), you can't use them immediately. Make sure you read the email and follow the steps to activate the eSIM BEFORE you try using the QR code.
    • I initially didn't read the email, and my attempt to use the QR code failed. As the QR code was then "used up", I had to do the steps in the email and then request a new QR code, which worked. You're guided through this, for me the guiding only stopped when I clicked on "I think I've correctly installed my eSIM" or words to that effect.
    • If the website says it sent you an email (for verification, or you requested a new QR code, or anything), then WAIT FOR THE EMAIL. My emails took some 12 minutes to arrive, and because I kept hitting "resend verification" thinking they weren't being sent, I got MULTIPLE emails twelve minutes later. And that was about midnight, the emails may take even longer to arrive in busy times of the day.
    • During the above process, at one stage it gave me a "Login" and a "PIN". WRITE THESE DOWN, you won't see them given again, and you'll need them to log into your account.
    • When you do login, you'll see $4.85 credit, as somehow the installation process must have sent an SMS. The SMS is shown in "Usage"->"Messages" in your account, but doesn't show on my mobile's messages app.
    • I was able to install the eSIM on a mobile that wasn't listed in their compatibility list, using a mobile (Moto G14) without built-in eSIM capability, as I have an eSIM adapter fitted into one of the SIM slots of my phone. For more info on this adapter, read my post "PSA: How to Add eSIM Capability to Non-eSIM Phones".
    • Did it a second time, this time porting a number across instead of accepting the number they offered. This time the minimum credit that could be added was $10.

Both times I was purchasing eSIM, the first was a test run to make sure Lebara's eSIM installation works on my mobile-with-eSIM-adapter. To install an eSIM, I need the eSIM provider to give me a QR code, Lebara does that, not all providers do - some require installation with an app, which fails when the app says "your phone isn't compatible with eSIMs!" (even though it is, just not in the "conventional" way). For anyone curious, when the eSIM adaptor is in my phone, dialling *#06# does show an EID. When the adaptor isn't in my phone, dialling *#06# doesn't show an EID.

  • the latest CIS suggests it is a minimum of $10 on activation

amaysim have hiked their payg plan to $15
