    Just don’t make it worse…

It's already "up the sh*tter"… I can't make it any worse!

    Thanks OP.

    Any lecky's handbook too?

    • Hope not

  • is doing your own plumbing illegal according to the government?

    • +5

My thoughts of whether I do it myself is the potential damage I can cause.
I repaired a storm water pipe which had completely disintegrated, replaced pipe and connected it to the storm water.
I'm about to start on some Agi drains.
I also unblocked my toilet, worst and best $85 I have ever spent on hiring a Toilet snake.

      • +3

        Brown snake?

        • +7

Well lets just say lots of brown snakes were released and over flowed around my feet.

          • @valco: Thanks, I was feeling guilty about the heavy lunch I just had. My lunch is out now

Read your state laws or the Plumbing code of Australia (PCA), there’s tons of information online.

In NSW for example it’s legal to change your own washers or shower heads and a few other minor works but connecting to a sewer main would be illegal to DIY.

      • +15

In 1977 an 8 year old child was killed after her father changed the shower head by himself. The child was unfortunately killed by an out of control car 30kms from the home. But plumbing unions believe that causation was behind this tragic death and lobbied ($$$) politicians to "think of the children". So politicians enacted such necessary safety regulations and the number of deaths from amateurs changing washers or showerheads has dropped dramatically.

        • I can't tell if this is true or satire :/.

is doing your own plumbing illegal according to the government?

This statement is disturbing on a few level …

    • +4

It's kind of ridiculous, especially when I see shit done by registered plumbers that doesn't even meet aus standard. I do a lot of stuff on my property and the government can go get f'ed as far as I care. The worst that'll happen is it won't be covered by insurance if something goes wrong.

Seems like a bit of a pipe dream

    • Can you se ethe light at the end of your pipe?

Thank you, this is awesome now I can be like Mario.

Just gone through it, its pretty light on detail, youtube is way better for giving solutions.
Thanks to Whirlpool and Youtube I just fixed my dishwasher again.

  • Thanks. I can now justify purchasing more tools.

It was only a few months ago that it became legal to use a plunger on a toilet in W.A or replace a shower head .

    • Wtf…

What? Turns out I've been breaking the law since I became an adult.

I guess I'll hand myself in at a police station today.

Is there a section on plumbers crack?

    • +4

We just call it meth in WA?

  • +2

    What's a faucet?

    • +7

Its when you twist or whack it hard. You faucet.

  • +14

Wasted 10 minutes reading this from cover to cover. This is not a "Step-by-Step Manual", the 'steps' listed are absolutely obvious with no useful details.

Also, beginning to suspect it was written by an AI-tool:

    15.3. Safety Kits
    5. Safety glass: This is optional. It is worn to protect the eyes from harmful rays.

    • Is Ray Martin a harmful ray?

      • +3

        R.I.P. Steve Irwin.

      Ze googles do nuthing!

  • +2

Complete garbage. Dune waste your time.

  • finally I dont need to spend $1000 dollars to fix one tap

  • +1

Even if you paid .99c for this it would be a rip off. Garbage. Useless. Don't even bother.

  • +1

Does it tell you which massive ute to buy before starting work?

    • (many) utes are massive because the manufacturer made them that way. Tradies don't have much of a choice when buying one, especially if new.

  • +1

Who can afford to hire plumbers these days?

  • +1

… and once you've learned how to unblock that sewerage pipe it's good to know it's mostly all your own shit.

    :-)

  • +1

Downloaded and read it, not anything special. Mainly common sense stuff really. May help some people but a youtube vid would be better as it will show you specifics and what to look for.

  • YouTube is quite good for this. The real cost is in obtaining the code. I learned that you have to pay about $300 to get the iso standard, which makes no sense at all. It’s like in order to know the law, you have to pay to get a copy, and they update it once every few years.

  • +3

Why are blog posts that call themselves ebooks suddenly a "deal"?

  • +3

    Complete trash, written by AI.

  • +4

A quick look at the sample and you can see this is quite literally ChatGPT. AI scanners show it as AI generated content too

This is a big reason I finally cancelled Prime a few months back. The amount of absolute garbage you have to sift through on Amazon to find something decent is mind boggling. AI generated "books", identical Chinese products from hundreds of different "brands".

I just searched "umbrella" and got: AmazonBasics, Sheyuinch, Samsonite, erised's bifrost, Repel Umbrella, TIME LOVER, umenice, G4Free, Balios, Royal Walk, DOFOWOT, XIXVON, CUBY, Lejorain, TUMELLA, IOco, Prostorm, Frafuo, Jopenope, Knirps, totes, Aymorder…. It just goes on and on and on. I only know of Samsonite to be an actual brand, AmazonBasics is known for ripping off good products and putting legitimate small companies out of business, the rest is AliExpress level results at a higher markup

How does this have 130 upvotes

  • +1

    Unfortunately it's partner e-book - https://www.amazon.com.au/Pull-Your-Pants-Ernest-Green-ebook… - is not free.

  • Fit Australian standard mate?

  • +2

There’s heaps better info on YouTube. There’s bunnings videos and plenty others out there with real information.

Depending on the job DIY plumbing is a risk of insurance not being paid out, which might actually matter if the upstairs bathroom floods the whole house.

  • +2

It's certainly worth the asking price

  • +1

It's super basic. Just describes general tools and terminology. Ideal for someone who's never used a screwdriver in their life

  • not showing as free for me, too late?
