Nexus 7 - best price?

Hi guys,

I'm going to to scout around tomorrow to try get a deal on a Nexus 7 as a Christmas present for our daughter, personally I'd rather wait a little bit for a deal to come but my other half wants all the shopping out of the way early which is understandable. Currently TopBuy is about the cheapest vendor around at $209+20 shipping so $230 all up. Out of the big boys Harvey Norman are about the cheapest at $257, obviously I could price match at OfficeWorks to get that 5% lower. I was thinking I'd try to get one for $230, maybe offer $220 first, do you guys think there is room to push harder on the price?

I'll have a crack tomorrow, any thoughts in the meantime are appreciated.

Cheers

EDIT: I should have mentioned this is for the 8GB version, our daughter won't know the difference or need additional storage so there's no point getting 16/32GB.

EDIT2:
Current Aussie stock best prices are:
OW: Binglee price match = $236
Kogan: If they run free shipping again = $229
BingLee: With AMEX = $215 (First knock store price down to $245 then get $30 cashback with your AMEX)

  • OW doesn't stock the 8gb version i thought. there's not many stores which have 16gb in stock either

  • is it worth it getting it in america if im going there on holiday?

    • standard price for the 16GB model in america is $199 which is ~$50 cheaper than here

      • Isn't there tax on top though? (which varies depending on the state)

        • +1

AFAIK we shouldn't be subject to any US based tax, tax only comes into the equation when our import exceeds $1000 and thats local GST tax at this end from Customs.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong.

        • I think he means local sales tax if you buy it from a brick and mortar store in the US.

Yes, you will get charged a sales tax…unless you buy it online and get it shipped from a different state to a mate or your hotel.

        • dont you get taxed even if you buy online?
cos im travelling to america soon and living at familiy's place.

i dont think its enough for tax return either, damn!

        • Sorry my bad, I blame tiredness :)

  • Can remember what the price was, but think Kogan was cheap when it had free shipping (which may happen again before Christmas??). Totally guessing but 32GB was $268? Or does that sound too low…The 16GB is $229 right now ($10 more than 8GB so totally worth it). Just have to wait for free shipping.

  • +1

Binglee have the nexus 7 16gb for $257 with free shipping
    http://www.binglee.com.au/asus-nexus7-1b016a-nexus-7-tablet-…

If you combine it with your registered AMEX from this deal
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83610

Brings the price down to $227 for the 16gb nexus 7. Pretty good price.

    • Awesome price, shipping doesn't concern me as Bing Lee are a 5min drive away, pitty I don't have an AMEX card though because $227 for 16GB Nexus 7 makes it a really good deal. That should be a deal posted on the front page - I'm too busy working to do it right now but if someone else wanted to score some fame… :)

    • how longs the shipping?

  • Okay I'll let you know how I end up going but I just checked BingLee's site and the pricing has now dropped to $249

    OfficeWorks 5% price match = $236.55 (16GB version)

So at the very least I should get it for that price, just hope they don't realise the local OW is out of stock :)

  • Binglee is offer $249 with free shipping for the 16GB if you ask for their best price. $30 off with Amex down tot $219.

Kogan does it for $229 + shipping. If you're not in a hurry, wait for another 'Free Shipping' deal at Kogan.

  • Okay guys I got the Nexus 7 16GB.

It was quite a mission in the end. Firstly I got Domayne from $267 to $245, they wouldn't budge below that saying its almost at cost. Spoke to OW who were happy to go $236 but had no stock anywhere, even their Sydney warehouse was empty, there were a few Sydney stores with <2 in stock but she couldn't confirm if they were returns. Either way it was going to be $20 in fuel driving to/from those stores from here.

BingLee, I could only get them down to $245. He said their cost price is $238 and can't go any lower so I bit the bullet and bought it there. A little bummed I couldn't get <$240 but with the missus not wanting to wait for a better deal to come it was pretty much this or nothing. Also stock levels appear to be very low everywhere.

So I figure these are the best options currently available for those looking for a Nexus 7:

OW: Binglee price match = $236
Kogan: If they run free shipping again = $229
    BingLee: With AMEX = $219

I hope this helps someone :)

  • Just put an order in with binglee online. Asked them their best price. They said $245. After AMEX $30 cashback makes it $215 for australian stock. Thanks for the legwork Clickit.

    • Happy I could help! $215 wow, that's cheaper than you could get overseas stock delivered for, well done! I will update the original post accordingly :)
