    • Think it is Look Up (previously ChatGPT)

    Strange
    OP account deactivated

Sounds like a good laptop deal, but what the story OP.

    • Yeah how come deactivated account can post anything?

      • +4

deactivated after posting, just like their last post

780M is so good that it makes the 3050 6GB look a bit redundant. Dedicated VRAM is nice though.

    • That’s what I was thinking. At that point may as well just go for integrated graphics only.

      • Not with 16GB RAM though, which as Yuri says is why having the 6GB of dedicated VRAM is useful.
I have a Lenovo Yoga 7 with AMD 7735 with 680M and 16GB. Running graphic heavy games pushes it right up to the 16GB RAM limit very easily.

Good deal here nonetheless! Watch out for the lack of USB 4.0 here, which I find makes all the difference if you are using your laptop to connect to 4K monitors.

        • Of course graphics heavy games will push it and dedicated VRAM is not going to go amiss in this bracket, but with expectations in check, the 780M is surprisingly solid for iGPU and this would perform similarly to an ASUS ROG Ally. The point I was getting at though is if you're going to the trouble of including a discrete graphics card and all that entails in a laptop form factor, you may as well get a more substantial bump in performance.

        • Yep. I have a Yoga 7 14 ARB7 and often find it gets a little unstable running heavy games. But the 680M is an excellent iGPU. I'm still to this day amazed that it can squeeze a stable 60FPS out of COD MW3 on low settings. If you're willing to settle for 30FPS you can event jack it up to medium.

      • Idk according to the benchmarks here it looks like 3050 Ti (6GB variant) laptop smokes 780M. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3050-Ti-Lap…

  • Deactivated account suss
    Good price but lmao

    • +5

Nothing suss mate. It's sad, I think it's user ChatGPT that changed his username to Look Up.
      😞

      • Yeah it is

      • Huh? Why did it get deactivated ?

        • They did this after their last laptop post too… guess it's their new identity lmao

        • +3

Who knows. Once you deactivate your account, is it possible to activate it again?

      • +2

He's been a bit odd honestly.. he went and posted I the deal I put on the 7900 xtx then disappeared as well.im not sure what's happening. Anyway. Mate if you are out there, hope you are ok

About to hit 2nd hand Gigabyte gaming laptop 11th gen cpu, from marketplace for half this price. Is the RAM soldered or upgradable/any empty slot to add?

    • +1

Is the RAM soldered or upgradable/any empty slot to add?

Which laptop are you talking about?

You obviously haven't read the post if you're talking about this Lenovo…

    • 11th Gen Intel was terrible afaik. Buy anything after 11th gen.

  • This or a Legion Go?

    • +1

Huh?? Aren't they completely different devices?

      • Legion Go has a 7840HS and 780M too

      • Yer but I’m just wanting to know what would be the better way to play games if you didn’t mind the size factor seeing they are both portable

        • +5

          portable

Iunno how practical it is to have a laptop in the dunny for an extended 9-9.45am ‘monday meeting’

        • If the laptop is an option just take that. M+K works better on a lot of games, but controller support is nice too.

          • @ATangk: The thing is I don’t know a lot about them and I’m not gonna be playing games on the go like on the toilet or the buss etc but they are both portable if the sense I can take them to different rooms or on holidays etc

I’m just looking at something to play my free games I get on steam, epic store, GOG etc along with playing some other games like Ghost of Tsushima and Fortnite.

            • @Twisty: I have a rog ally, but despite its hardware I find I’m only playing very simple/casual games on it. When I need accuracy I’ll end up plugging in a mouse and keyboard, and at that time the screen then becomes limiting.

So in the end it depends on the kinds of games you want to play.

  • +2

Now if only this had a better screen…

    • +1

What is wrong with the screen? RTX 3050 is best suited for FHD gaming, I don't think it can hold 60fps at QHD or get more than 144fps FHD in popular games.
If you are eyeing it for productivity, you're prob looking at the wrong laptop series, LoQ os mainly aimed at gamers.

That being said Lenovo website had the option to customize some LoQ models, including display

  • +1

Wait till someone going to say 3050 is trash, nothing can beat the same price Nitro 16 with 4050 before at the same price, by next month EOFY sale bet this will go below $1k

    • -2

Well they wouldn't be wrong, the 3050 is bad. It's 2024's GTX 1650 for gaming laptops.

      • +1

GTX 1650 is one of the most popular GPUs ever for a reason. A lot of people have budgets and they care about prize. The 6GB 3050 can maintain 60fps in a lot of games with medium - high settings.
LoQ is for people on a budget

  • Far out this is solid, wish it was 3060 though!

    Very tempting…

  • +2

I bought this from last month's post. I upgraded it to 32Gb Ram and 2Tb SSD. Works great and fast. I use it for complex data modelling with large data files as well as CAD. One of the few well priced laptops with upgradeable RAM, decent provessing speed and graphics processing. Haven't tested the battery yet as I keep it plugged in at my desk. Hasn't got an IR camera so need to manually login and can't use facial recognition. Overall it is great for what i need and very good pricing compared to what elese I have seen.

    • How is the screen? bright enough? If comes with QHD+ even better

      • Its birght enough for me in my study. I use a large external display with the laptop as a secondary display.

      • Perfect if it's 2k

  • -1

I bought this when there was bonus cashback from Westpac on Shopback so got it for ~$900

    • How is it for gaming?

      • +1

You aren't satisfied with your Steam Deck? 😆

        • I am but I wanna be able to play Fortnite and other games with out the steam deck workaround

          • @Twisty: You could install Windows on your Steam Deck

      • Bought it for a frnd, we played Ghost Recon Breakpoint, GTA 5 etc on it together and didn't hear any complaints from them so far.
It holds more than 60fps on medium - high settings
Haven't tried any of the latest games though

        P.S I bought the intel variant https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/loq-laptops/lenovo-lo…

  • If it’s 2k display then it’s perfect

    • How do you get the TRS refund? Must you get a form from the seller or something? That's what I remember having to do years ago.

      • +1

to do TRS you need a receipt with your name which matches your passport Australian business number etc and needs to within 60 days before your flight

  • nice

  • Any other gaming laptops out there on sale that may be a little bit more $$ but better then this deal?

  • +1

    How about this one?

Acer, similar specs, but with a 4050. And 10 hours battery life. Apparently.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-nitro…

    • out of stock

      • I've read Acer's build quality is not so good anyway. I'll consider this Lenovo one.

  • hi.. would this work as a regular Uni laptop for a student studying business.. in terms of the specs, compatibility with regular software etc. etc.

    • That and more. But personally, if you're going to be travelling with a laptop, I'd go for something more durable like a ThinkPad.

Don't let that stop you. For the price, this looks like a solid laptop.
