nbn 12/1Mbps $39/Month & 25/10Mbps $44/Month for 6 Months (Ongoing $48.90/M & $54.90/M, New Customers Only) @ Flip Connect

140

Hi

Couple of entry level NBN deals that seem reasonably priced. Offer listed until end of month however I think they have run the offer a few times but it wasn’t posted on OzB. Website says “ This applies to new customers connecting for the first time only”.

NBN12 (typical evening speed: 12/.8) for $39 per month for the first 6 months, then $48.90.

NBN25 (25/8): $44, then $54.90

Less competitive but also available:

50/17: $59 $64, then $73.90 ongoing

NBN100 (97/17): $69, then $79.90.

NBN250 (236/21) $84, then $94.90.

Thanks to @d1977 for pointing this out in the Spintel deal.

  • This has always been the price. Felix works out better for the lowest tier, in theory at least. In reality it’s a lot worse, I’ve been with them for a month now, will prob go back to flip once the 3 months promo is up.

Pretty sure it's for older people who are satisfied with looking at their grandchildren on facebook and receiving landline calls

      • These two comments are not mutually exclusive

    • I about to switch my parent from this plan to Felix unlimited. 12/1 was enough to stream YouTube (480p) smoothly and browse the internet. They don't need much.

Flip has a special senior/pensioner discount, so the plan start at around $44 which includes line rental. The average bill ended up around $48/month, so it was cheaper to just go with Felix (with slightly faster speed).

    • I was on 12/1 for about 12 months. TBH its aright for 1 person streaming video/music. Had Netflix while browsing the web with 0 issues or perceived "lag". Even played DOTA online once or twice a week without any issues. used about 300gb a month

That's the same download speed that I was getting in 1997 on Telstra cable.

  • Cgnat?

  • +1

Was with Flip, not the best in terms of speed.

    • I’m moving from More now that the CBA deal has ended to Flips 25/10. No idea why but I was achieving 28dl with my More 25/10 plan so I’m curious where this falls in regards to speed.

      • Plans are overprovisioned now by NBN (has been for a while) so you don’t get less than you pay for where possible. It was to appease the ACCC.

    • Yeah not 100% certain but I believe they only have a POP in Sydney meaning all your traffic goes through there. If you are a Sydney resident this will be probably be fine but for everyone else it will add latency. I believe it’s the same for Spintel.

I’d be looking at deals from a Vocus provider (Dodo, more, tangerine etc) over this. Or even better Superloop or Exetel.

      • If you’ve been with one Vocus provider are you eligible as a new customer to another? Eg from More to Exetel?

        • +1

          Exetel is not Vocus.
You should be eligible to do the move between Vocus resellers. Only providers that I could see that being an issue would be Tangerine & More as they are the same company, whether or not it’s actually an issue I’m not sure.

          • @AusNugz: Typing slip up. But you knew my question. Thank you

    • Was with Flip, not the best in terms of speed.

and waiting an hour on hold to speak to someone and then having your call dropped because it became out of business hours…

  • Whats the deal?

    • +2

NBN12 and NBN25 are not widely available. Most people are looking at $60-$70+/month now, not knowing that there are other cheaper options available.

Not everyone need the fastest speed.

  • Any good deals for Opticomm?

  • Speeds are not good, beware !

    • Any specifics, a speedtest link?

        • How long have you been with them? Did you have a previous connection to compare with? Have you raised the issue with them? Ty

          • @Low Punt: Well, I change providers every 6 months, usually. Around 80% of them deliver speeds as advertised, but there are some bad apples. I tend to contact customer service in such cases. Sometimes it helps for a couple of days, sometimes it does nothing. After a few years, I think contacting customer service is usually annoying and a waste of time. To be honest, I just grin and bear it until end of promotion, then jump to a different provider. I can live without perfect speeds, it is just annoying when you are aware the service is not as it should be.

Billing and Payment Information: Billing is monthly with the NBN service start date being the beginning of your billing cycle. The first bill charges pro rata to the end of the month of activation plus the following month; thereafter, an advanced monthly charge applies to all subsequent invoices.

  • It’s not bad but the service keep dropping intermittently.

  • Is anyone here with Flip who's actually happy? I can save about $10/month by making the switch away from my rock solid provider for the past 10 years. Obviously not worth it if Flip speed or connection is iffy but.

    • I just switched to Flip NBN 25. In internet speed tests I get between 17 and 25mbit depending on the testing website. For me that's all I need, so might as well pay little for internet.

  • Is there minimum notice period to cancel the service?

  • Flip demands a copy of my ID to sign up?? This is insane right? Is this common in the industry??

    • Is it a new connection? I wasn’t asked when churning from another provider.

      • Interesting, I’ll try again. Could be they have fine print somewhere to do a credit score lookup - which is terrible too, but at least my newest ID doesn’t exist digitally
