  • 2% standard cashback, 7% total including the bonus.

  • Thanks. Just received $10 bonus.

Added the supermarket card to Google wallet. Not used these types of digital payment cards before - anyone knows what happens when trying to pay at checkout and there's insufficient balance? Will it have to be a split payment?

anyone knows what happens when trying to pay at checkout and there's insufficient balance?

Considering the gift card in this deal operates on the Visa payment network, if there is insufficient balance, it will be declined. It also means that the EFTPOS terminal (or online payment gateway) and Google Wallet app will not tell you the available balance; you will instead need to obtain that from the relevant balance check website.

Will it have to be a split payment?

Yes (assuming the merchant is able to do split payments for the type of purchase you are wanting to do).

So much for the technology. Wouldn't it be wonderful idea if Google wallet checks balance of each type of added card and displays it right there.

        • +2

Google wallet checks balance of each type of added card

Google Wallet (or Apple Pay for that matter) doesn't know nor does it care that you have added a prepaid card.
It simply encrypts the card details, and creates a virtual card.

This is like asking why can't I see my debit account balance for my debit VISA / MC I have just added.

          • -3

@DoctorCalculon: There is too much variety in gift cards and my ask is to make consumers life difficult. Comparing gift card and Visa debit card is not right because gift cards do not require much protection and most of the time you only Need to enter card number and pin to get get in.

It is (profanity) annoying. You have to know the exact amount left, then split it.

      • I love with the coles gift cards you just go to pay, it says you only have xxx left, would you like to continue, then it makes a split payment, these are annoying

These cards are pain in the ***. I refuse to buy these add to google wallet cards. You can't check balance in google wallet and have to search up card details in SB among other cards after some time and check balance.

    • It's not hard to do simple arithmetic when Google wallet shows the transaction history of the card…

Or just buy a physical gc in store if you can't do maths

    • I end up using shopbacks notes to keep track of balance.

I rename the card to the balance remaining eg. Onezerozero for $100 (since you can't use numbers in the name). Easier to refer to.

        • +2

I do the same thing! It's ridiculous that you can't use numbers

        • Great idea

        • Same 😂

        • You can also use spaces and symbols in the card nickname for the balance. eg. one zero zero, one.zero.zero

          • +1

@rokufan: You can also use foreign language characters, so I actually use Japanese kanji instead 😆
            一〇〇 would be acceptable

Can they be added to PayPal (like Coles Mastercard GC) and then use it to buy Woolworths gift card online from https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/?

    • No. However they can be used to buy Coles Prepaid Mastercards and other gift cards at Colesworth.

      • When was this last confirmed?

        • +1

Not sure about Coles but I used one of these to buy a TCN gift card at Woolworths on Thursday and it worked fine.

          • @juicyj: No worries, just don’t want to lock funds up in these cards when I get better discounts for groceries elsewhere if they don’t work on the gift cards aha

        • I did it yesterday. Gift card inception. You can buy coles prepaid MasterCard using the shopback supermarket gift card and then use prepaid MasterCard to buy the shopback supermarket gift card and do it again and again

          • @Zenny: Great way to loose money given the coles mastercard has an activation fee…. During a promo it might be worth it i suppose.

            • @Davelovesdealz: Obviously during promo. No point buying the gift card when they are not on promo

  • How long til the bonus arrives?

My purchase went through and i received the gift card but not yet tracked in the St. George lounge :(

    • +1

My bonus tracked within 15-20 minutes.

      • Thanks. It wasn't there for about 20 mins but was there in the morning so all good!

Can't find this challenge in my Shopback account

    • Same :(

  • Getting fewer bonus cashback for westpac cardholders these days …

  • Tracked both 2%, bonus $10 and bonus $0.10 within 10 minutes after purchase

FYI - these cards can be used at your local fruit store or Asian grocery store. I strangely assumed they could only be used at Coles, Woolies and Aldi but tested at my local fruit shop and at Asian grocery store (new yen yen) and it worked.

  • I mostly shop at ALDI, can I spend this at ALDI too?

    • Eos Yes !
