EA Sports WRC takes the class-leading feel of 2019’s Dirt Rally 2.0 and stuffs it into an officially licensed World Rally Championship experience, like a steel rod in Timo Rautiainen’s backside. Loose surface handling remains supreme, stages have been pumped up to 30 kilometre marathons, the audio is excellent, and the selection of modern and historical rally cars is achingly close to spot-on.
However, just like a steel rod into your co-driver’s buttocks, there have also been some unwelcome, performance-related side effects and some serious lost position in the graphics race with the competition. Stuttering and tearing are common while racing on Xbox Series X, and the fidelity here falls well short of being a generational leap from Dirt Rally 2.0.
With these technical shortfalls, combined with a lukewarm career mode and underdone customisation, EA Sports WRC feels like a great racing game trying to fight its way out of an unfinished one.

RRP is $64 at JB Hi-fi.

Why I bought it: On the weekend my son wanted to play Dirt 5 which was a Playstation Plus monthly free game. I haven't resubscribed and we discovered that the game can't be played and is locked. Let a mate borrow Gran Turismo 7 so couldn't play that. A quick Google lead me to this!
I figured for this price, can't really go wrong…

Edit: Please edit/update if I've made a mistake/missed something. Been around here for a long time, but time poor and it's rare I spot a bargain!

    The game had a rough start, but it has since got some good updates that fixed a lot of the issues, the more i play it the better it seems. It's better than Dirt rally 2.0 which was the previous best rally game.

      Damn, Dirt rally 2.0 was great imo. Might have to give this a go.

    Just had a quick go on the control pad and enjoyed it. Haven't seen any bugs yet, maybe patched now.
    Will try with the wheel on the weekend. No time to set it up :(

    For $27, I think it's excellent! Son will be happy.
