Get a bonus Toshiba Netbook with when buying selected Toshiba LCD TV's *via redemption

30

Just saw this in the paper today, Harvey Norman is selling the 37XV500A for $1699, and you get a bonus Toshiba Netbook NB100/C02 worth $799 via redemption.

37XV500A Specs:
37" inch Screen Size
Resolution is 1920 x 1080
Dynamic Contrast Ratio is 19000:1
Brightness is 500cd/m2
ClearFrame 100hz
3 x HDMI Inputs

Toshiba Netbook NB100/C02 Specs:
Intel® Atom™ N270 (1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 512k L2 Cache)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition
8.9" WSVGA
1GB DDR2 (533MHz)
120GB HDD (5400rpm) SATA
10/100Mbps LAN
WLAN (802.11b/g)
4-cell battery

So, basically.. if you factor in the cost of the laptop, that means that you're buying a full HD 1080 LCD TV with 100hz refresh rate (Though only 37", 42 and 46" available too at $2199, $2599 respectively at Harvey Norman), for about a thousand dollars.

First post, but really I'm more interested if someone can tell me more about LCD TV's, and what they think about Toshiba ones.. I've just graduated and really I'm still a poor uni student, so I'm looking for the best specs for an LCD TV at the cheapest price… and I think this might just be the one. Please help me decide if I should go for this deal or just wait for another 1080 and 100hz LCD TV to come along at about the $1500 range.

Any thoughts, feedback and comments appreciated! Thanks!

P.S. Toshiba netbooks are limited to the first 4000 redemptions, just noticed it now.

  • ranma, it does sounds like a good deal, however are you intended to buy a netbook? if not you'll be looking to offload it say on eBay. meaning you probably get a max of $500 from it, taking your LCD to $1200. plus you'd likely to get extended warrantee from it as well which should cost around $200.

I wonder if you could get this toshiba from DickSmith, I just been to it and they still have a promo for TV over $13xx will get a TomTom One GPS ($250) plus a belkin Surge power pack (say $100), on top if you get the Netbook via redemption, you could be much better off. I only assuming DSE stocks Toshiba TV.

Or you buy a Panasonic Full HD plasma from DSE to claim a Wii plus the GPS and Surge pack, Panasonic should makes fairly good TV. Try this thread http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/8226

    • I tried calling DSE today to see if they sold Toshiba's, but couldn't get through. Does DSE price match? Also, something I noticed though about DSE and this supposed deal of theirs… they are selling the 42 inch Viera for $2298, with the bonus Wii, Tomtom GPS and Surge pack. The Tomtom GPS and Surge pack is supposed to be a 385 value… HOWEVER.. JB HiFi are selling the exact same Panasonic model for $1998. Sheesh! So basically DSE is offering these 'free' gps and surge things, but they add on $300 on the price. Not much of a saving at all, kind of a rip-off even!

But still, if DSE did this deal, that would be awesome, but hopefully not for $2000!

      • DSE would negotiate with you, sometimes they won't match or beat competitor pricing but you can always get their prices down than what they listed, you could be in better position if you buy extended warantee on top as a pack, just have to talk to the right people in-store. The manager up in PowerHouse Chatswood NSW is hopeless always gives me a price which is much higher than printed ad prices else where, total waste of my time. Try other stores. Good luck!
