  • Remedial question - when switching providers, is it OK to transfer based on estimated read or best to transfer based on actual read.

Am switching now and not sure if it's worth requesting actual read, especially if there is an expense involved in that.

  • FYI, just received this (NSW):

“From 1 July 2024, your applicable solar feed-in tariff at the following address will decrease from 7 cents to 5 cents per kilowatt hour for all eligible solar you export.”

  • Would anyone already know if you can sign-up multiple addresses if they meet the criteria of new supply address but under the same name?

    Also caught this-
In the t&c "The Welcome Credit is a one-off credit which will be applied to your first electricity bill (excluding a bill issued as a first and final bill)."

So, the credit wont apply if you churn straight after your first bill. In essence, it applies to your first bill only when you stay on and receive a second bill (and onwards)

    • $200 credit should last most people two bill.cycles, so not too much of an issue

  • They mustn’t like people who churn electricity providers as I didn’t pass the credit check 😂

    • wow I didn't even realise that churning electricity providers will have impact on credit score

      • Go request an Equifax credit report for free. Mine is now only Very Good rated due to high consumer credit applications from energy providers. I've churned heaps and will churn again to powershop once I've burnt through my Momentum credit.

        Quote from my credit report:

Multiple applications for loans or credit in a short
        period
        ↓↓↓
        Significantly decreases score ↓↓↓

        • Equifax is only 1 of 3 major credit bureaus along with Experian and Illion, so you're limiting yourself to only information supplied from Equifax. For example, I have 10 credit enquiries on my Equifax file and 16 on Experian when applying for the same product. Different credit providers (energy providers, credit card providers etc) can use one, two or all the credit reporting agencies. In my case more credit checks were used on Experian.

          • @txb: Thanks, I read somewhere that Equifax was the more widely used one. I'll order an Experian one and see how I fare

            • @0 0 0: Id go with Wisr, they retrieve both Equifax and Experian files on their portal. They update monthly, whereas getting checks from these two individually they give you one free check every 3(?) months or so.

I use Wisr plus have a separate login for Illion.

              • @txb: I don't trust these third parties I've never heard of. I'm not familiar with the industry apart from knowing who Experian and Equifax are. Rather just get it direct from the source

              • @txb: Got my Experian credit check results. It's very incomplete compared with Equifax. Goes to show Experian is crap to rely on so presume most serious organisations use Equifax. Only one of my utilities credit applications shows up on my report so it's missing perhaps 5-6 applications.

                • +1

@0 0 0: As I said, different credit providers (energy providers, credit card providers etc) can use one, two or all the credit reporting agencies. Utilising all three gets you a more ubiquitous view.

    • They failed my credit check, then promptly offered me a more expensive plan (higher rate, no warm welcome)

      High degree of fishtuckery here

    • what is the quickest way to find the best rates to churn? thats the only thing thats stopping me

      • Use the govt comparison site or simply chase the upfront sign up bonuses. In the last 12 months I've churned to chase over $800 in bonuses. I don't care so much about the rate as the upfront bonuses cover the extra costs plus more.

  • I got the worst daily supply charge $2.4607!!! Is this even legal?

  • Not available for anyone in Victoria supplied by AusNet.

    • How do you know? Is it when you try to sign up they say not available?

      • Yes

        • Thanks, i was going to switch next week. When i put my postcode they show the rates/ credit so assumed i could sign up with Ausnet. Will have a look around elsewhere.

          • @junet: Maybe I’m wrong then! I tried a whole bunch of post codes around my area and it only showed gas

            • +1

@yojabbajabba: Signed up today for Ausnet and went through all good. Horrendous rates but will just stay for the $250 credit + gov rebate apparently in Aug and move on.

  • These cowboys upped some of my rates by 87%.

    TOU Ausgrid EA025 .

    CL1 10.01c to 18.70c !

    Avoid like the plague.

  • Urgh my Momentum referral credit was rejected. Presume the Ozbargainer has churned

    • yep same email. Wonder what to do.

      • They wouldn't do anything for me. So forfeited the credit. Probably lots of inactive accounts on Ozbargain as people churn

  • Massive rate hikes, email this morning received.

Thanks to whoever signed up using my referral 🙂
I was bummed I couldn't sign up with an Ozbargainers referral as they were no longer a customer but happy to have received and helped out someone else

I went from Origin to Momentum and then back to Origin after their retention team called me with a really good deal. I cancelled my referal on here but after reading your comment and checking I discovered the cancel feature mustn't work, had to delete my customer number and then save. Appoligies if it was my number you used.

    • Hey, how do you know if someone has used your referral? I used someones but have no idea if it applied or not, do you need to wait for the bill to be generated to see it?

      • +1

        They email you

  • Just churned to Powershop from Momentum after they reduced Solar FIT a few weeks after joining and increased rates one month after joining.

  • My rates also went up 10% or so a month after joining. But someone did use my referral code on here (thank you someone!) so I'll at least wait out my new credit being used up before switching. Might take a while with the government program going on now.

Been on momentum and transfer has been easy with no issues.

  • I’m with AGL in qld How does the rebates work? Eg. Can I change now and still get them on my momentum bill ?

    • You should be able to do so but best to double check with a rep at Momentum first. I'll send you a DM so that you can email the rep who has been super helpful in signing me up earlier today.

  • Also note to anyone who is looking to move to Momentum Energy, you will need the referral code along with the person's name in order to secure the $50 credit. You also need to ensure that the person whose referral code you are using is still with Momentum Energy before you get your first bill (else you loose the $50 credit eligibility). I have for a direct email contact of a telesales agent from Momentum who can assist you with churning to Momentum and at least you can have that in writing via email rather hoping that the sales rep makes all the notes on their system.

Send me a DM if you want the details of the rep & more than happy to share it.

    • How much commission does the agent get?

      • Hahahahaha …. who knows but they work for the company, Momentum Energy directly. Guess they must get bonus for signing up more new customers but I was more focused on what we can get and more importantly having it in writing via email rather than doing it over the phone and not getting written confirmation about the credit bonuses.

        • Shouldn't need a name. Someone used my referral before I churned only using my code. Auto processed

          • @0 0 0: Not sure if they have just changed their process because I tried using the referral code using the auto referral link above today (which only provides codes, not names) and the sales rep over the phone indicated that they needed the customer name in order to process the $50 credit bonus.

            Hence just sharing this information.
Also a good reminder for anyone who has churned out from Momentum Energy as they should remove their referral code to avoid the person who tries to sign up with their code as it will not honour the $50 credit if the referee is not a Momentum customer when you receive your 1st bill. Refer to the last point on their T&C noted here:
            https://www.momentumenergy.com.au/offers/refer-a-friend

            • @nmehta: If you do the referral online there's no questions asked provided the account is still active. But the problem is getting a referral that's active isn't guaranteed as people forget to update theirs. I removed mine as soon as I churned

  • Changed referral system to PM only. Do not ask for referrals in the comments.

    • can u make this deal available as its still available for credits. can't find expirey for $200 credit offer. ta

      • Updated.

  • I just signed up to momentum energy but I forgot to include the referral code :(

  • Seems like signup no longer requires a call back and referral code (account #) can be entered directly in the web signup page without account name. But does seem like rates have been hiked massively? Probably stay with them for a month before churning…

    • it was always like that referral entered via web only needs account #. i did that and posted deal. i think call they ask referee's name

  • Thanks to the stranger that signed up with my referral!

  • Just signed up, $200 electricity + $50 Gas + referral $50, good deal!

  • I didn't realised my previous account from a place I lived in 3 years ago was still active eventhough there's been no active service. Do I still qualify having signed up with a brand new address?

  • Just signed up. seems to work fine

  • +1

Just received my first bill and nice to end up with a credit balance of over $300 for the first bill that includes $200 welcome credit plus $75 victorian gov bill relief and $50 referral credit. I was going to sign-up with OVO Energy but noticed that they jacked up their rates and glad that I didn't make that move.

UPDATE: Worth checking the rates as I found better rates on Momentum website by switching over to EV Does It plan which gives me $100 charging voucher plus better rates as noted below.

    Consumption = $0.2189
    Feed in Tariff = $0.04
    Daily supply = $1.0296

    • Thanks, just checked rates and Nothing Fancy is cheaper. Was it easy to switch plans and your credits just stay on the account?

      • Yes, the rates for Nothing Fancy & EV Does It was the same for me …. hence, I went with EV Does It (as I have an EV car) to get the extra $100 charging voucher.
Switching was easy over a phone call and I can confirm that the credits just stay on the account.

        • Thanks heaps I'll call them today :)
