Nexus 4 for $349 (with high end specs and priority OS updates) is the benchmark for new android devices these days. It is the best value android phone you can buy today.

      "you can buy today"

      I tried. Unavailable.

    • You might have to wait awhile before it goes back on stock though

      • And then you might have to order fast when it does become available, sold out in about 20mins last time. A lot of people unhappy with the purchase process. I don't think anyone has got their new Nexus 4 yet despite delivery supposed to be 3-5 days. Some have been told they won't be delivered for 3 weeks.

Got mine on earlier this week, as did several others at my work.

Definitely well worth the wait and extra ~$65 (including delivery) for the Nexus 4.
Significantly better hardware and Significantly better Software.

I have the Xperia U (essentially same specs, CPU, etc, in a smaller package).

I HATE it. It's soooo f*$king slow!!! Especially after upgrading it to ICS (using the legit update). I just received a text, swiped my unlock pattern, and it took a full 6 seconds to bring up the text message! 6 seconds!!! And no, I don't have a million text msgs on it, I've only had it for about 2 weeks. Before it I had a Samsung Galaxy SII, which was infinitely better. Sadly it got destroyed a few weeks ago when I was caught in a monsoon storm whilst cruising on a moped in Thailand :P, hence the Xperia U purchase.

I would absolutely recommend going for the Nexus 4 at a minimum. Personally, I'm trying to hold out until the Lumia 920 is released before I make a decision on what to replace it with. Fingers crossed my sanity holds out that long. I come close to pegging this thing against the wall at least half a dozen times per day. Its such a shame too because it has such a nice screen and is a stylish looking phone.

    • I have Xperia Sola. It is a good phone, quick if you keep it on gingerbread, up to date but a little laggy if you upgrade to ICS. The P has double the RAM (1G vs 512M) of the sola and U - I'm pretty sure that is what accounts for the slowness on ICS.

Nexus 4 would be great if available. If not, Xperia S or Galaxy Nexus also great phones. Xperia P is stylish and "good enough" for many.

16GB onboard flash only, though (equivalent to the $399 Nexus 4 + delivery).

    • Not a bargain for a phone with this specs, specially compared to Nexus 4

      • Nexus 4 is much bigger and not everyone needs the phone this big. Imho 4" screen is just right.

    • Sola and U both have 512MB RAM.
      Xperia P has 1GB RAM.
Makes a big difference with ICS.

    • You're forgetting maybe it might also be the included bloatware consuming the RAM (active or background processes) that maybe slowing the phone?

Try CWM & CM10 to see if there is an improvement in speed.

  • I read an article somewhere yesterday, Sony themselves said their phone suck.

  • This is the best phone for under $300 imo.
You can import it from eglobal for about $270. For the extra $25 it's probably worth getting local stock.
