  • I just bought one yesterday! Worked out a way to make it work just for the recharge, so bought another today :-)

Was previously using a next g dongle, so SIM out of that into 4g wireless from yesterday. Buy another today and use recharge on old SIM when close to expiry. Gift new 4g wireless, plus 2 SIM cards with 5 gig data for Christmas to family member.

Now the SIM cards the 4g comes with, some places say 30 days, but in store at Telstra it says 60 days, anyone have first hand knowledge though usage.

Finally, I hope if it is an error and they don't honour, they cancel the whole thing and don't just send the normal WiFi.

  • From DickSmith's Online Marketing Coordinator:

The below offer has been posted on OzBargain and is a pricing error.

We are working to have this amended ASAP.

It is now moved to the forums.

    • +1

They are going to honour the online orders aren't they?

      • If would be nice, but they don't have to ( from here ):

        1. Acceptance or rejection of an order

          4.1
In certain circumstances, we may need to reject your order. This may happen where the requested Product is not available or if there is an error in the price or the product description posted on the Site.

    • Where did you see this?

      • Got an email from their Online Marketing Coordinator asking to have the deal removed from front page. We usually move the Pricing Error into forums anyway (once confirmed).

    • If they don't honour, will we have the chance to get a refund? If we paid via a Wish Gift card, but don't have that card any more, I wonder how they will deal with it.

      • same here

        • Called em, they will just issue another WGC…. seems simple/fair enough. I didn't mention my order number/name etc, so shouldn't be specific to me.

  • Damn, we Ozbargained them again … :)

  • Now I wonder should I rock up to the store and pick it up…

    • +1

should I rock up to the store and pick it up…

no vouchers in store, only online…

      • They print them out from their POS

  • Sold out online now…

  • +1

I really, really did not need to buy this. Sometimes I really wished I didn't check OzB! :P

Anyway, order might get cancelled yet.

  • Strange…. the site is now showing as Sold Out online but can still Click and Collect and in the overview it has a bonus offer of the $180 recharge with 365 days expiry.

  • Hmmm order status says 'Your order is being amended.'

  • Xuc caccc

  • just rang DS online sales team… Pricing is incorrect it is supposed to be $299.
$180 Telstra Data 365day card is ONLY available for online purchases - NO store Picks !!!
Funny… There is no Stock online anymore … hmmm

  • Lucky I got it instore before they changed it.

  • I did a click and collect at 6.30 am, saw both items in the list with the $180 recharge at $0.
Store called me about 8.30am and said they can't do click and collect as needed ID.
I said if I came in the store would that be okay. They said yes and would hold it.

Well, went into the store about 11:50 am to collect and was told about the pricing error and they would not honor it. Tried the polite approach then worked through the honour it for customer service and reputation sake then feeling ripped off but they wouldn't budge.

Well done to those that got one - the early bird catches the bargain.

Purchased this as an online order last night. As of ~ 2 PM today, order status is as follows:

    • Wi-Fi Modem : Back-ordered
    • Telstra Voucher : In Progress

    Still have my fingers crossed!

    • +1

Same. Will they honour it, or amend the order without asking?

      • +1

Same..I have a feeling their not going to honour this. We got dicked.

        • +1

Wonder why you got a neg for your comment. Weird. I have a feeling that they've put it on backorder to stall for time before they can make a decision.

  • Got an text saying it's ready for pick up but the online status says In Progress - ???

No mention of the Telstra Voucher either….

    • Pretty sure the voucher only shows up for 'online only'…. does your order confirmation show the voucher?

    • Print the order confirmation and go pick them up ;)

  • If someone already recieve the deal dont we have something to stand on espeically their honour the deal

  • +3

Given it has taken DSE this long to cancel, I recon they are talking with Telstra to work something out. If it is a bad deal for them, they can just cancel. I hope they can do something for us.

Happy to report I picked this up in store in Brisbane at 1.15pm this afternoon, I did the click and collect. They were pretty unhappy about it but thankfully honoured it after stuffing around for 15 mins I just stood there calmly showing that I had purchased this online based on the offer that was presented to me at that time.

Thanks to the OP, it was $169 I didn't need to spend but for less than the price of the recharge I got a free 4G WiFi dongle.

    • Can you post a picture of the reciept??
Also did the actual click and collect have the Telstra voucher with it??

      • No, but they honoured the deal because it was advertised. Receipt is pointless now because the offer is over.

      • Not sure the receipt would help to be honest as it was obviously a pricing error that they do not have to honour.

Interestingly my cart was updated and the recharge was removed. I am not 100% sure but I thought when I added the WiFi to my cart there was an additional item there for the $180 recharge voucher. However when I arrived in store and they showed me the receipt for the click and collect there was only the WiFi dongle on there and I thought I was going to miss out. At this stage I was prepared to walk but showed them the deal on the ozbargain page using the BargainDeals+ app on my iPhone, which wasn't updated when the deal was removed to the forums, I think this was my saving grace.

I did ditto except I have stored images on the my Galaxy Note and showed it to her. I went to pick up at about the same time as well. I think if you post me your receipt I can ask them to give me the deal as well.

        • Here is a copy of my receipt hope it helps.

          Good Luck!

  • So in-store pick up must be like an internal referral system. Good for those who got it.

  • I just got my one, but how to tell it comes with $180 recharge?

    • You should have received a seperate receipt with a 12 digit Recharge Voucher Number on it to the value of $180. If all you got was the 1 receipt then this would be for the WiFi dongle only. My receipt showed the the WiFi dongle @ $139.00 and the Telstra Pre Paid @ $30.00 for a total of $169.00

      • Good to know, I need to go back, because I didn't get recharge voucher. Everyone should be aware of this. Thanks.

        • I don't like your chances. Good luck.

      • Would you mind to send a copy of receipt to me?

  • +2

My paypal account has been charged the $169.00, so it looks like they are honouring the deal.

    • Not really. As soon as you hit the submit order button most online stores will debit the money right away..

      • No. BigW and dicksmith charge Paypal when
        They dispatch the item.
If you check the order details of Paypal it says account is not charged yet.

        • But surprisingly I am also charged from my paypal account without any confirmation about the shipping. So if they do any dramas while honouring the deal, it will be questionable.

          My order status still says:
          Your order is being processed.

  • Mine is apparently being backordered.

    • It's "in progress" again as of 2030 hrs! :p

  • Hmm, Show in stock again in their site. "ships next business day"

    • Yes but without the recharge voucher.

  • +5

I think they should accept this deal due to the following:

    1. You are paying for the modem for the amount of $169 which is the actual amount and comes with the $180 dollars recharge as a "BONUS". That was clear this morning in their website.
    2. When a promo says "BONUS" you don't have to pay anything for it!
3.As a promo, it makes sense to bundle the modem with a recharge.
    3. I don't think it is a pricing issue as normally it is cheaper buying online and you won't indicate "BONUS" if you have to pay $299 and only save $50 for me that is a discount not a Bonus.
Good Luck to all who tried this morning :)
  • mte555 makes a strong point +1

    • +3

More like a really, really, really hopeful, gosh I wish it were true point. :)

    • I agree with mte555. The whole thing was misworded and then misrepresented.

  • +1

Thanks Calmerancer! DS should just consider this as advertising expense. People will love them more!!

  • +1

My order changed from backordered to "In progress"

  • +1

Order is in progress now and I was one of the first to purchase the item last night when it was posted. Things are looking good!

    • +1

Same! W00t! If this works out, I'm going to write a letter of commendation to those guys. They've earned a loyal customer.

  • +3

They should. It is only $130 difference from the catalogue price. People bought $299 Logitech wheels for $27 due to the pricing error and they honoured it.

  • -3

just refer the matter to Consumer Affairs if they try to back out of the deal; such fine-print nonsense exclusions are meaningless under Australian Consumer Law.

    • My guess as to the negative votes you have received on your comment.

If you are going to advise on matters like this. It would be far better to give a little more detail rather than a general comment.

Like wouldn't it be better to find out.

What reason they give if they dont.

Then with either that knowledge, or what you know already, explain why this is in breach, and how Consumer Affairs has acted in cases like this in the past.

Far more helpful than the comment you made.

    • just refer the matter to Consumer Affairs if they try to back out of the deal; such fine-print nonsense exclusions are meaningless under Australian Consumer Law.

Probably a good idea to know what you're talking about before you go sprouting nonsense. Australian Consumer Law specicifally states that they don't have to honour a mistake.

The item you're talking about getting Consumer Affairs involved in @$169 is clearly advertised in their current catalogue at $299.

FWIW, my credit card was charged overnight $169, my order is in status "being amended" and I still have both items on the order "In progress".

    • Mine order status is "Your order is being processed" and both modem/recharge are "In progress". Not sure exactly that this means, just hope it is being honored…

  • @ Vbap "FWIW, my credit card was charged overnight $169, my order is in status "being amended" and I still have both items on the order "In progress".

Yep my order is exactly that also…

    • Yeap same here… status="being amended" and CC was charged.

  • Good news for you guys that have your orders "in progress" or "being ammended" and still have both items on your order.

Sn809 you need to take a copy of that receipt and the information in this topic back to the store as it looks like they are honouring those who ordered during the time these items were available for sale on their website.

    • Will do Boss ;)

  • +3

I just rang online orders to change my delivery address and they have confirmed that all orders which were processed through online for pickup or delivery will be honored.

    • Wow. What a great news.
Lets see when do we get the items.

  • +3

I just received an email with an invoice in it so it looks like all good.

I also emailed the online store and they refunded me the $4.95 postage I was incorrectly charged so in the end i didn't get dicked!!!

    • Now the site will crash will everyone checking their orders ;)

  • +1

Same here. Nice one from Dick Smith

    • My invoice says the Wifi modem has been shipped. Voucher backordered.
However, online account says both are In progress.

      Anyone have the same?

      • +1

Mines exackty the same, says modem ready waiting for shipment today and $180 recharge voucher on backorder!!!

I assume they are honering all orders online.. :) +1 for DICK!!

        • Woohoo!!! I ordered 1 on my account and one with my wifes account,my order has 1invoice with 2items on it with voucher as backorder and my wifes email i just recieved 2 seperate invoices 1 for the recharge voucher and 1 for the modem. Both says ready for shipment awaiting for courier pickup.

  • I just recieved an invoice from dicksmith so looks like its all good

  • Ya voucher says back ordered too for me

  • +2

"Your order has been packed and is awaiting collection. You will receive an email with shipping information this evening which will enable you to track your order."

    Mr Smith, salute. :)

  • +4

We have to tip our collective hats to good old Dick Smith for coming to the party and doing the right thing by those who ordered online during the pricing error.

  • I made 2 separate orders but only one seem to br processed.
One is displaying order processed and one is amended.

  • weird…only have an invoice for the recharge voucher at this stage

  • Woohoo… modem is dispatched and recharge is in progress.

    • Damn, got too excited and over looked the order, it's the recharge that's dispatched. The modem is still in progress….

  • Got email:
Your order has been packed and is awaiting collection. You will receive an email with shipping information this evening which will enable you to track your order.

    • Dick Smith so full of crap.

Called their online people, spoke to Tri*** who told me they were not honoring online orders and were contacting people.

Told her to look at ozbargain and see that people were getting positive responses to inquiries. Fobbed me off as mine was click & collect and to speak to store liaison.

Store liasion - always busy when I try and then ask to leave a message. Fat chance there!

      • It has happened to me in the past, when I ordered the Sanyo batteries and after 20 days, when I contacted them, they said order was not placed as no payment was made. I made it through paypal and had the receipt too.

Their support was useless and told me to order again from website.

  • Well looking at my order it has "You order is being amended" - however the hotspot says "Dispatched"

    odd.

  • +1

So anyone point me out to unlock solutions?? Free or was it $9 someone say before?

    • +1

dcunlocker is $9, dccrap is free

      • Thanks i will try as soon as i recieve the modem

  • Apparently my recharge voucher has been dispatched (also received the invoice) but the modem is still in progress.

  • Mine says dispatched….

  • +2

Good news. My order status is 'Completed' now.
Both modem and voucher displayed 'Dispatched'.
Received invoices in email for both modem and bonus voucher.

    • Update on 26/11/2012.

Yay! Received my 4G modem and $180 voucher via Startrack today.
      Voucher expires on 14/11/2014.

      • I just got mine but havent recieved the voucher yet.

  • you ppl are so lucky.. I was on a buying spree recently and decided to give this a miss.. seems that this is a good deal after all..

  • +1

Now that I've been invoiced for it, thanks DSE by the way, I'd just like to say it would be nice to support up to 10 concurrent devices. With phones, tablets, laptops etc for a family on holiday, five is just a tad too few!
