  • Dispatched also … yeehaa!!

  • Mine says dispatced but invoice says that my prepaid telstra voucher is on back order. So I will be getting the modem for now.

  • Mine also says prepaid voucher is still in progress, and modem has been dispatched. The modem should also come with a 5GB voucher valid for 30 days, so I don't need the $180 voucher for a while yet anyway.

Well done to Dick for honouring the mistake :)

  • I got 2 confirmation emails from Disck smith saying both if the items are despatched.

  • My status says that the modem has been dispatched by the voucher is still in progress. :( Order status says "your order is being amended".

    • Yup, that's what mine is like at the moment too.

  • voucher only underway for me so far…

  • Damn…one of my orders modem is dispatched but not voucher and another order is displaying in progress..

What does everyone think how the voucher will be delivered? You think dse will not honour the voucher? I mean how hard is it for them to source telstra recharge cards…

    • I mean how hard is it for them to source telstra recharge cards…

Take it easy. Relax, probably not too hard but would take a few days, they need to raise a purchase order, submit it thru the system, have them delivered or what ever. Maybe Telstra might even be organising a special purchase deal to help them out, I am sure DS has been discussing this with their corporate rep. Thats the way its done. But that would have taken time.

In the end they may even just email the codes, if that's allowed.

Just think about it. If they ship you the modem, without the voucher, and not honour the voucher, then you return the modem, this is going to create even more issues for them. If they were not going to honour the deal, they might as well do it now rather than compound the issue.

Shipping part order, means they are less likely get swamped with calls and people abusing them, with questions/demands the order gets fulfilled.

      Patience…

      • +1

..also there is apparently 5GB/30 days free with the modem in any case. So one can start using the device from the get go.

      • +4

thanks Mod as well, I think in some ways how quickly Ozbargain complied with the takedown notice also put both "sides" on good terms and probably would have had some weight towards whether they went ahead with the orders or not. no doubt this has won back quite a few customers and is far more of a "+" in this situation as most companies wouldn't, than the "-" from the staff buyout event which happens and is expected at every company

        • +1

Precisely. Goes a long way in building customer loyalty. For instance you may remember the epic debacle that was the Harvey Norman game sale earlier this year. I bought a game and didn't get it or a refund for almost 8 months. I tried contacting them but to no avail (they had a "backorder" in effect so a paypal dispute could not be raised). Long story short, I got my refund this month, but the whole experience was horrendous and I got out of my way to avoid HN… even if they have a sale. Its the principle of the thing.

The maturity with which DS has handled this situation (and the Logitech wheel incident) makes it quite clear that they clearly know how to do business without making the customer feel like crap.

        • I said the same thing about dicksmith because of the biggest sale that happened earlier this year. Im already buying from DS again.

    • Still waiting on some other items in your order?
Some products available for sale on dicksmith.com.au are dispatched from different locations therefore may be sent in multiple deliveries. You will receive an email when each delivery is dispatched.

Just activated the enclosed sim which gives you 5GB to use over a 30 day period. And just ran a speedtest on the 4G, my ADSL2 service gave me 17.52Mbps Down with 0.85Mbps Up and the 4G was 37Mbps Down with 27.6Mbps Up.

How is this even possible? Just goes to show what poor value the NBN is, they should have spent the money on more 4G transmitters around Australia.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for the $10 Telstra Starter SIM packs if like me you have used the $180 recharge for another device. Just so you know the modem takes a regular sized SIM card.

Once again thanks to OP for posting this deal I am one very happy customer.

    • +1

How many gig does $10 ($30) starter pack give u using this modem?

      • I am pretty sure it is still only 3GB to use over 30 days. Can anybody else confirm this?

        • I thought 3gb only applies if u use it on an ipad?

    • +2

Is there an expiry date on the $180 voucher? I'm hoping to use it to recharge my iPad plan in Jan 13…Thanks.

      • I hope to see an answer on this too…

      • Jan 13? You should be fine then. Think logically if the 5gb comes with the pocket wifi expires in 30 days then only you start using the $180 voucher right? Assuming you receive it on 30 Nov the 5gb expires on 30 Dec, then the voucher should still valid on 30 Dec for you to continue from 31 Dec otherwise it will sound silly for you to run both 5gb from the pocket wifi and $180 voucher at the same time.

      • +1

Yes, I rang Telstra and they can check by the serial number. The one I was issued with expires either March or May 2014.

        • +1

I think you will find the 30 days start from the activation which you need to do before using the modem. Not from the date of sale. Then when that expires you can use the recharge voucher.

        • if it's anything like the vouchers you purchase from the supermarket, the expiry date is likely to be 2 years in the future, but this is only if it's like the ones from the supermarkets etc

        • theedge has posted a picture on the previous page. I think they are different to the ones you get from the supermarket. You think they would put the expiry date somewhere on the voucher.

    • +4

so the 5GB initial starter pack is confirmed! Sweet!

      OT:

The NBN comment in there, so callously thrown in is absolute bollocks. :) Three major reasons why 4G vs NBN is a no contest (in favour of the NBN):
      1) Expanse of 4G coverage: it is extremely limited coverage in most parts of Australia. For most people who have sub ADSL speeds at present(i.e. most people residing further away from the city), this is not even an option.

      2) 4G costs: Unlike costs for fixed line and fiber bandwidth, 4G costs will rarely go down to the point where it can be a substitute for a home connection. Cost per GB is still prohibitively high for anything more than portable use.

      3) 4G speeds: These are dependent on a lot of factors, contention within the cell, contention within backhaul, signal strength etc. So while this is good for portable use, speeds will steadily decline as the customer base increases. Also, an important thing to note is that the NBN is not catering to just home users, it has a lot of applications and one of the key features is the reliability and consistency of FTTH. This is extremely useful for people who actually depend on the Internet to run businesses, telecommute, remote administration, intra-site communications etc.

I could go on… but I'll put a stop here. Suggest going to Delimiter/WP/ZDNet to get a bit more clarity around what the NBN is.

    • +2

is this even possible? Just goes to show what poor value the NBN is,

The NBN is capable of going 1gig asymmetric with some hardware upgrades. The cable can take it

With wireless you need new tech.

I'll pass on the knee-jerk "Gosh! This is fast! It's totally the fastest we'll ever need".

Also comparing fibre with adsl2 is akin to comparing an ICBM to a poorly thrown stick.

  • Ok Agree that NBN comment was off topic. So now we have a reply to counter it.

Anymore NBN comments either way will be marked off topic.

    Stay on message

  • Yay! Received my 4G modem and $180 voucher via Startrack today.
    Voucher expires on 14/11/2014.

  • Awaitng my voucher still…

    • TELSTRA Prepaid Plus $180 1 In Progress $0.00
      FREE Standard Delivery $0.00

      Strange indeed.

  • Missing the deal:( anyone want to resale it pls PM ME. I'm in Sydney.

  • +1

Received my modem today. Still waiting on the $180 voucher, but the included SIM has 5GB valid for 30 days so no hurry. Removed the SIM lock, it gets much better speeds on Optus than my phone, averaging 10Mb. I get 14Mb with Telstra, it's not a 4G area. Will try it with a Yagi antenna later to see if I can get 4G. Nice device.

    • How much was the unlock?

      • 7 Euros with DC Unlocker, just under $9 AU. I checked for free tools but they were all too old to use for this device, and $9 seems reasonable.

        • where did you get it unlocked from? Can I just call them?

        • +1

I just unlocked it simple steps using dcunlocker (special edition *wink) lol or buy credits

          Unlock cost $0

          Install driver from modem
          Set to ZTE
          Select unkown zte
Search - and wait abit says unknown modem n few seconds later detects mf91
Press unlock on the right @ unlock tab.. Should say unlocked
          Reset modem DONE..
Add new APN in settings (192.168.0.1)

        • you just have to choose ZTE USB Modem in the drop down box of the free software and it unlocks it. It's the Huawei branded modems that require updates, ZTE hasn't done anything to change their modem locks/encryption for ages

  • Received only the voucher today. Still waiting on modem.

  • Got both modem and voucher today. Thanks a heap OP. Activated the SIM. Will use the voucher after a month. Vouchers were printed by Telstra directly. Looks like Dicksmith had some special deal to honour the deal.

I am pretty happy that Dicksmith honoured the deal for the order with pricing errors.

  • anyone selling an MF91??

    • -2

Dick does deals $169 for modem
      $299 includes $180 voucher
      LOL

  • There seem to be a lot of MF91s on eBay…

Anyone want to sell their MF91 cheaply? PM me…

  • found simple unlock steps here,
Use steps only and buy ur own legit credit :)
Dont use the link on the steps! *wink

    http://pastebin.com/bBPghLid

    • Thanks kspec. I finally got it working, but had to change/experiment with the comm ports. waiting 20-60 seconds does not work if the ports are wrong.

I'm now able to use a vodafone 12month contract sim card and will be activating my telstra cards when that contract ends next year.

Only early days, but I've found the telstra dongles to be a lot better than the vodafone pocket wifi pros. the wifi signal is a lot stronger and the 3G speeds seems to be quicker too, but this fluctuates all the time so I might just have been lucky last night.

Anyone know what "DC" connection means? I seem to be getting DC instead of H or 3G. Not sure what DC is but it's quick.

      • DC is dual 3g = twice theoretical speed of 3G. you're effectively opening up two channels and doing MIMO like wireless N to achieve higher speeds

  • +1

lmao received the voucher today. Thought someone sent me a blank Startrack Express satchel.

    • Any update on your modem? My order has also been 'amended' but opposite your order. I've received my modem but voucher is still on backorder. I'm really hoping I get my voucher since it costs more than the $169 modem and the main reason I purchased it. I'm holding off opening the box in case I have to return it!

      • Yay, just got an email from DSE to say my pre-paid card has been shipped! Thanks DSE, and thanks to peter05!

      • No modem yet, nor any invoice for the modem. I suspect the modem must be backordered - I ordered pretty late in the process.

  • +2

Got modem on monday and today just received another invoice for shipment of voucher.. Shouldget tomorrow or day after.. :)

    • Same as you.

  • Modem received. Voucher in transit. Very happy camper. :)

    • +2

I am getting 23/21 Mbps with 30-70ms latency (to local Perth speedtest servers). Pretty damn good.

Word of advice to others, be mindful of your usage. Stick to fixed wireless or something before doing anything that may involve "relatively" heavy media traffic. After benchmarking the connection, I forgot to reconnect to my ADSL 2+ accesspoint and watched a few Far Cry 3 Experience videos in 1080p. :P Suffice to say that it was a valuable lesson learned.

  • +1

Startrack just delivered the seperate $180 voucher this morning! Now got all packages!
    Very happy cutomer!

    • What did the voucher look like? Mum received it, opened the parcel and thought there was nothing there? lol.. gotta check when i get home later.

      • +1

Like all vouchers at shop, a small little white paper like receipt paper thats staple onto a A4 picking slip. Came in a very thin satchel. Maye ur mum think just paper so chuck away..
Better call tell her keep that paper!! LOL

        • +1

Aye, called her and asked her not to throw anything away.
She said there was a piece of paper with a telstra logo on it, that appeared to be like an invoice type thing.

        • +1

          Yep thats it! Haha

  • Received the modem on monday and the voucher today :)

I cannot understand why they use couriers to ship vouchers separately, in a 5kg satchel bag… (eg. also the amaysim vouchers from a previous deal)

  • +4

Received both the modem & the recharge voucher! Recharge voucher expires November 2014.

I had no idea it was a pricing error when I bought it, but I'm really happy on DSE for honouring the deal. Good on them!

  • Mine is still "your item is being amended" on the main page.

I received the voucher yesterday, but the modem still says "in progress"

    • Don't worry, mate. You'll get it. They may not have anticipated the huge volume of sales for modem. ;)

    • LOL shouldn't it be the other way round you get the modem 1st then voucher later? Anyway you are going to get it before xmas.

    • Same with mine, even got the invoice for it already. Credit card has been charged as well…

  • Anyone still not received their Modem, and just the voucher. Not a problem for usage, was always going to spilt them up. Voucher for me parents now, and modem as christmas gift.Just hoping it will come soon.

    • Call them. Mine got sent to the wrong warehouse. Support guy said it'll be redirected and I'll "have it soon" which I am taking as this week.

      • Mine doesn't actually say shipped on the modem yet. Still in progress. On the previous page, it says "your order is being amended"

        • This was my state also. I now have a delivered voucher and modem and an 'in progress' modem in my order.

  • +1

    Question about the Modem:

I plugged in the USB cable to the modem, and left the battery out - thinking it will still power up.
But the screen just says "No Battery" even if i press the Power On button.

Does this mean it always runs from the battery?
Would plugging it into the AC adapter (instead of the usb cable) allow it to power on without a battery installed into it?

    • Just tried it with the AC adapter with no battery. Modem doesnt turn on..

Guess it must have a battery installed for it to work :(

  • Is anyone still waiting on both modem and voucher?

    • Still waiting on modem.

  • Well I got my modem. It's happily charging.

For those of you who haven't got theirs yet, call them come Monday (or maybe today if they're 7 days online). Tell them you ordered 2+ weeks ago and still have no delivery. Have your order number on hand. It seems they made an error processing the orders and the modem order is, at least, allocated to the wrong place. This is what happened to me and they amended my order and the modem got shipped the same day.

  • Rang them yesterday and they had new stock of modems come in. He had changed the order from pending to ship the modem out.
So maybe worth a ring if you haven't got your modem yet

  • Any one who missed out and is still interested in the deal specially in BNE, contact me via pm.

    Thanks a lot to "theedge"

    • Sorry it is not available any more.
