$124.9c/L for ULP at Waverley Gardens Woolworths Caltex (with 4c voucher)

70

I was about to fill up my tank yesterday and realised that all the petrol station has jacked up their price yesterday :( but today I drove past my nearby Woolworths Caltex along Princes Hwy and saw that they still have the same low price as the beginning of the week

  1. ULP 124.9c (with 4c voucher)
  2. They don't have PayWave terminal, so you need to get Wish Gift card in Woolworths and pay with ING PayWave to get extra 5% off

Their Premium ULP price is also lower than other stations (which is based on their ULP price)

  • In fact I asked the store attendant and he told me they dropped their price today to attract more customers to the store, he also knew that other store price is around 148.9c (without voucher). They are also have promo on 4x 1.25L Coke for $9 and you get 8c/L off (needs to combine with 4c voucher).

I don't have 4c voucher and he offered me a complimentary 8c anyway to make me happy and come back to the store so I bought the Coke as well :)

    • Did he say it was for today only? I'm like 80% full.. -.-

      • I'm not so sure about that, but it doesn't hurt to filled your tank or if you don't drive much then you can wait for the price drop. Yesterday was the start of the price cycle so if will not be cheaper till some time next week

  • Sorry, ULP (no voucher) is now 145.9cpl. Was cheap this morning though…

    • I just fully filled my tank this afternoon at the store mentioned above. I know that 145.9 is the current price at other stations. This special price 128.9 (without 4c voucher) is ONLY at the store I mentioned above.

      • I don't doubt that, but I'm looking at the price board right now (I work across the road), and for ULP the price shown is 145.9 cents.

However, I didn't actually enter the servo, so it is possible that the petrol bowsers are still selling at the lower price.

  • Thanks for the tip on how to get the pay wave discount at Coles and Woolworths petrol stations that don't have pay wave :)

    • I missed out on this today since I thought they have newer terminal :( The store attendant told me he has requested for new terminal and hopefully they will have it soon :)

I can't wait for the day a petrol station gets OzBargained ;)

  • I was so pissed off yesterday when I was on the way to work in the morning, the petrol price was still around 128c/L and in the afternoon when I finished work and want to fill up my tank, the price has been up to 148c/L. Lucky I didn't fill up yesterday :)

    • Like atitshah87 mentioned below, you can use Motormouth to predict when prices will rise if you track the average price and set up lists in a certain way e.g. I have one list set up for servos around postcode 3000 and another for independents around the city. Often it'll be only a few places that rise at first, when that happens you know you still have some time to fill up in the next day or two. This is reflected where the average price goes up by a cent or two (most places stay the same, a few go up 15-20c).

However, an exception to this rule was last weekend prices were meant to rise but something kept them down e.g. Caltex Albert Park rose to near 150 on the weekend but went down again to around 130 soon after when not many other places were ready to go up. You can see the little rise around the 17th but you don't normally see a little fall soon after. The pattern around the first of the month on that graph is typical.

I didn't know petrol stations were allowed to change in the middle of the day any more. Over in the West it's locked in for 24 hours, so it's the same in the morning as it is at night.

    I find this helpful

    http://motormouth.com.au/pricesearch.aspx

You enter the postcode and it will give you current prices at different petrol stations in that area..

    • I have a few email lists set up for Motormouth including one for all the Caltex/Woolworths, they had all risen to mid 140s by early this morning, interesting how one went back down again to compete with those that hadn't gone up yet.

  • A few places in WA still selling for $1.27 - $1.28 (less the discount vouchers)
The govt run website enables quick searching (I thought this was Aust-wide?):
    www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au
Mid-late afternoon they also list all the prices for the next day & as bsdll mentioned they must keep those prices for 24 hours.
