Bought this for $149.99 yesterday on Amazon.
Will return it and buy for this price.
    Thanks op.

    • Just message them and they should refund you difference

      • +2

Just tried. They were unable to refund the difference but advised to return the item for a full refund and reorder the item at the cheaper price.

      • +7

They won't refund the difference. But ask nicely and they can give you a voucher for the price difference.

        • +1

Can confirm. I have been able to do this in the past.

  • Correct me if I’m wrong but Don’t you need a separate box to sync this with TV…?

    • -1

      Hue Hub required

Search for Hue Sync (FREE) at meethue.com to your PC and synchronize your Philips Hue lights with your Music and Movies; Hue Hub required

    • You're thinking of the Sync Box. That's only required if you want the lights to sync with what's being displayed on your TV.

    • +2

For your TV, you need the bridge, AND one of these.

Unless you have a compatible Samsung TV with the Hue Sync app

It's pretty poor that this hasn't been made available for other smart televisions. The HDMI box is way overpriced.

      • @Banj0 wow I had no idea the app existed for TVs ! The sync box is a none starter, because it doesn't update to keep up with HDMI revisions.
But if the app was available for my TV, then the lights become viable.

    • speaking from experience, the screen sync is bit of a gimmick.
most of the time its quite unattractive, just showing varying shades of white/grey and can be a little nauseating even. the only time its good is when the image has rich colour whilst not having too many different colours, and by too many I mean more than one colour at a time

      • I found my cheapass Govee led strip to be really good, just needed to tweak it until it looked right. Even the wife approves of it! Is the Hue version really that bad?

  • Can you buy additional hue power packs if you want to plug in the bars in different rooms?

    • +1

Annoyingly, you can’t (not official Philips ones). You can buy 3rd party no-name power supplies for these, but it’s at your own risk.

  • Are two enough for 85” tv?

    • +5

      I doubt it.

Additional if you TV is hanging on the wall it could be a tight squeeze depending on your space

For large TV i would advise a strip instead

    • Two aren't enough even for a 65" tv. You need at least 4.

      • Really? What if I place them on my tv unit facing the wall? I thought 2 would be enough.

        • +2

Yeah you can, but these lights are pretty small, like approx 25cm in length.
You can see the light effect, but I feel like you need 2 on each side for better experience on my 65" tv.
For 85" tv a strip might be a better option.

        • +1

I have two on my 65 and it’s fine. Depends what you’re going for I guess.

    • +2

      I have about 5 behind my 50'

I use it for ambient lighting. 3 across the top and 2 on sides

      • +5

        Sounds like exactly 5 :)

        • +3

I say about as sometimes…two act as one with the hue sync app….it's odd. But meh. Cant be bothered solving.

          • @Thinkswithelbow: That's weird, you've tried looking in the entertainment zone configuration on the app that the two in question are not in the same virtual location? Make sure all 5 are separate and aligned to your virtual display in the app.

It was $100 6 months ago

When the prime day deal went online yesterday, most Philip hue products were listed $15 – $20 lower than the prices you see now.

The store decided to jack up the price of all their items at around 12:30 am.

I literally saw the hue items changed price inside my shopping cart ,so I removed all of them and searched other products instead.

  • +3

I have about 8 of these.
5 behind TV for ambient lighting
2 on bookshelves for ambient lighting.
    1 under a bed for a nightlight ( sensor activated )

    They're so damn useful.

  • I have two (1 set) behind my gaming PC and it works well with screen sync. PC app is free.

  • +4

    I don’t need this
There’s no corner left in my house without a smart light
    Dang it FOMO

  • Also consider the Goovee Light Bars if you aren't invested in the Philips ecosystem: https://www.amazon.com.au/Govee-Backlight-Multiple-Placement…

    • A word of warning to anyone buying Govee lights: unless specifically stated, these will lack white LEDs, so the light output tends to look awful and distorted for any shade of cool white to warm white. I’ve been bitten by this in the past when buying Govee light strips. You’ll need to look for something like RGBICWW (Govee’s marketing term) if you want white LEDs as well.

But if you only care about colours and not white light, then you’re good.

  • No way I paid $181 for these 2 weeks ago :(

    • 2 weeks ago still within 30 days return policy. Perhaps you could do a refund and rebuy these?

  • Seems to be gone now

  • -1

Looked into this for ambient lighting but decided on the Medialight MK2 instead for reducing eye strain, better customer service & 5 year warranty

    • +2

Different products. That's for bias lighting. This is for ambience.

      • +1

Yeah i was looking at lighting behind the tv and all the options. There are so many products with philips, govee, medialight etc. Either way ambient or bias it's still a light behind the tv lol.

      • +3

There’s enough bias on TV these days, let alone behind it

        ….I’ll see myself out

  • +3

Damn!! I always miss these on sale

  • +1

    Ahh missed it again!
