  • Woukd this be considered the thin drive or the thick one?

    5400 or 7200?

Still a little peeved i was too slow to get to ow/jb last time when it was 20 less

    • I just bought one, and it is smaller than the dimensions given above. Mine is 122x81x(about)16mm. On the side of the box it came in, there is a picture of the side view of the HDD, and it says "Portable design 15.5mm" beside a dimension bar indicating the thickness of the drive.

The USB micro B sticks out quite a bit, when the HDD is connected to the cable, the overall length is about 165mm without bending the usb cable too sharply.

Officeworks have the model number incorrect, too. They describe it as SGBX1000GB, and Seagate's website doesn't recognise that number. The number on the side of the box is STBX1000301.

Note also that this drive has some Seagate "crapware" installed. I don't know what it does, as I'm using it on a Linux box. For Windows users, do prevent the crapware from running, here's what to do: the very first time you want to use it, hold down the left shift key on your keyboard, then insert the drive and wait for the system to recognize it (up to a minute). Once you see it appear as a drive, and windows asks you what to do with it, you can let go of the shift key. Choose windows explorer, and rename Autorun.inf to Autorun.fin. It will be safe from that point onwards, you can decide whether you want to delete the crapware or not.

  • Its out of stock in my area. damn.

Kind of hard to justify $89 for these when they were $60.40 last week.

    • To be fair, that was pricematching the JB special.

      • And so? It shows that the retail price can indeed go that low.

  • It's a thick one - 22mm in specs.
I got one last week from JB HI-FI for $68.20 including delivery.
I checked the box and paperwork and it doesn't say what speed it is so I assume it's 5400 rpm.
    Hope this helps.

the one i got from north sydney OW was the 301 (15mm) version……

      and it's a 5400rpm 9.5mm drive

      • Mine too, 15.5mm thick, from OW Woolloongabba (Brisbane). Don't know the RPM.

  • At the day of Click Frenzy I bought it from officeworks for just around $60.

You made it sound like clizy had anything to do with the "deal"

  • Don't forget the added features:
"Orders placed before 11.30am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) for items that are in-stock are eligible for same day delivery. When the same day delivery option is selected the order will be delivered on the same day in metropolitan Brisbane, Melbourne, Geelong, Perth & Sydney."

Free delivery for this item too, if you are in one of the areas listed above, as the purchase is more than $55.

    • Correction to the above: to get same day delivery, you apparently have to select something on the ordering screen. It wasn't obvious when I ordered, I only discovered when it didn't arrive same day. I checked my email, and OW had sent me a copy of my order saying I would receive it Monday. I rang up and cancelled the order, and picked one up in-store, there were about 20 at OW Woolloongabba (Brisbane) at 5PM today.
