The Metallica Collection - 15 Albums for $14.95 (Bigpond Music 320k MP3 Download)

1110

In the spirit of last weekend's Pink Floyd deal, I also found this collection. Obviously only appeals to a certain target market - but 15 legal albums for less than $15 is a bargain in my book! (The first 5 of these are outstanding, with everything post black album being much more questionable - but still a few gems to find).

I wouldn't expect this to last for long, if it gets the same response as Pink Floyd's set last week.

Lars would be rolling over in his grave.
I wonder what the artists cut would be considering itunes is so lousy

      Did he die?

    • +14

He would…if he was if he was actually dead. He is more likely rolling around in his money.

New to the whole bigpond music but do we have to use its own player or some such? Do they just get downloaded as mp3 and we can add to itunes or..

    • +1

I'm not the only Person wondering this. +

      • +1

Yeah if it is another music player then as good as it is, I will be skipping it. Still gets an upvote regardless as they are (were) an amazing band and there is many hours of damn good music.

        • Oh the irony/hypocrisy of an iTunes users saying that.

          Death to their Nazi ways!

    • +4

Nope - DRM free, playable on anything. To download them efficiently you need their downloader installed, but other than that it's easy as pie.

  • -2

Cliff Burton RIP. You kept them grounded. The moment you died, so did they.

    • +1

LOL he was only with Metallica for like 2 albums hahaha

      • 3 but yeah I get what you are saying.

        • -2

Bingo. And after the 3rd it became pop-rock rubbish.

          Justice was acceptable.

Black album was terrible, not this god like recording people treat it as.

Everything afterwards (except the amazing No Leaf Clover from S&M was rubbish).

  • Hey ozshark, thanks for the post, grabbing it now.
Spewin' last week, i ummed and aahed over the Floyd discovery set…and bigpond tore it down…aaah

  • +3

What do you mean "certain target market"? One of the more popular and better bands of all time, genre or no genre.

    • Even Snoop dog said he is a fan, Metallica is just pure music

    • True. I'm not a fan, but I'm buying this just because they're so popular.

    • +1

Last weeks offer: Pink Floyd, greatest band of all time.

This weeks offer: Metallica, greatest sellouts of all time.

      • HeHeHe. Good one. But please die now.

Though shall not hate on my favourite sellouts! 8D

  • Genres: Pop

  • OK, it appears to be 2-3GB in size, will report back when it finishes.

All 320kb MP3's, no DRM. This will definately be shut down quick!

    • 2.17GB in total

  • Hmm seems like the album S&M is not included. Shame as it is brilliant. Metallica and a full symphony. \m/

    • +3

      Yep.. it's there. Volume 10 and 11.

      • Ah so it is. Such a damn good album.

  • +3

Awesome deal. Just about a dollar per album for one of the best Heavy Metal bands. This just proves the statement, "Piracy is a service issue." Resonable pricing, an easy downloader and the freedom of choice to play them with any player I want and listen on any device I own.

Hopefully the music/movie industry understand that people are willing to throw money at them but not to be locked into a service or paying an arm and a leg for "special Australian prices" or being restricted to using only the devices they approve of. Don't fight progress!

"This just proves the statement, "Piracy is a service issue.""

How does it prove that? There's many reasons why people pirate, and having an easy to use cheap service won't stop that. I'm sure they will sell a few albums today to customers that wouldn't have otherwise bought them, but thats not the same as stopping privacy completely if this was the every day price.

There's many reasons why people pirate, and having an easy to use cheap service won't stop that.

I partially agree with your statement. Someone who doesn't want to pay for a movie or an album or a game would flat out not buy it regardless of how easy it was to purchase it and how low the price is. But I wasn't talking about these people.

My comment was aimed at people who actually want to pay for something and legally own it but they don't because it comes at a ridiculous price and with many restrictions and sometimes they don't even have the ability to actually purchase what they want.

Amazon MP3 is an example. There are many, many albums on Amazon MP3 that I want to purchase that are sold for $0.99 to $4.99 but I cannot buy any of them because it's a US-only service. What's my alternative? iTunes, Bigpond Music or Bandit.FM. But those same albums are either unavailable on any of these services and if they're available (mostly on iTunes), they're 4-5 times more expensive. Not exaggerating. That's what I meant by piracy is a service issue. If a great service is readily offered at a reasonable price, the incentive for pirating goes out the window.

So when a deal like this comes along, many people who are unlikely to actually purchase it would actually do it because it's an easy to use service and it comes at a great price. I didn't wake up today wanting to buy 15 Metallica albums but I did just that because they're a great band and this is a great deal.

Hey, sure, Metallica might not be everyone's cup of tea, but this is less than $1 an album, and nothing else matters.

  • What! No Lulu with Lou Reed. What a jip.

    • +1

      I'm assuming this is a joke,, :-)

      • No, they made an album with Lou Reed called Lulu…

  • +1

This would probably have something to do with the Metallica contract with Warner finishing, so the other day they went independent with all their masters and videos

ANOTHER remastered package will be on it's way
