$5 off a Gift Card Each Month with $4.99 Per Month ShopBack Plus Subscription @ ShopBack

3539

Hey all,

Hope all has been well! It’s been a while since my last post but we’ve been working hard behind the scenes on a new membership program called ShopBack Plus! We know how much you love Gift Cards, so monthly Gift Card credits are a big perk of this program!

For a cost of $4.99 per month, ShopBack Plus members get:

  • $5 off any Gift Card (that’s the membership paid for, plus a little profit on top)
  • Higher Cashback rates at top brands
  • Up to 10x Cashback on Plus Day each month (keep your eyes peeled for 1st October)
  • Entry into a monthly Cashback giveaway

How to Sign Up

  • Click on the “Go to Deal” link
  • Link a debit/credit card
  • Sign up as usual

GYB's Notes:

  • By signing up to ShopBack Plus, your membership will be valid until 11:59pm AEST/AEDT the following month on the same day (for example: if you sign up on 19 Sep at 5pm AEST, your membership will be valid until 19 Oct 11.59pm AEDT).
    • Your membership will be renewed automatically every month unless you cancel it at least 24 hours prior to your renewal date.
  • Memberships are non-refundable. If you were to cancel your membership, it will be valid until the end of your billing period as above.
  • You can sign up for ShopBack Plus on any device - desktop, mobile web or the ShopBack app.
  • To utilise the Gift Card offer you will need to use the ShopBack app. Keep your eyes peeled as you’ll soon be able to purchase gift cards on desktop/mobile web soon!
  • Your Cashback balance can be used to pay for your membership (turn the toggle off if you don’t want to use it on the first payment). Renewals however will by default deduct from your Cashback balance first, and any remaining outstanding amount from your default linked Mastercard/Visa card.
    • To avoid using Cashback towards membership renewals, you’ll need to cancel your membership at least 24 hours before your renewal date and manually join again once your membership expires.
  • Apple Pay is not available for ShopBack Plus membership payments and renewals. You'll need to pay using your Cashback and/or a linked Mastercard/Visa card.

Enjoy!

TopCashBack UK has (or had when I was back in the UK a long time ago) a paid/plus subscription also.
From what I remember you got a slightly higher cashback rate on most retailers and quicker approval/payouts but it really wasn't worth it.

  • If only there was a way to combine the gift card into a single balance. Having 12 x $5 over the year is just a pain to track and redeem.

If only there was a way to combine the gift card into a single balance

Buy Amazon gift cards, which you can add to your Amazon account balance without making a purchase. I believe Amazon account balance never expires.

You can add each card to your balance immediately after you purchase/redeem the card, so the steps should take about 5 minutes:

      • log into ShopBack
      • redeem $5 as Amazon gift card
      • log into Amazon
      • add Amazon gift card to your account balance.

(sigh) another paid "extra benefits" subscription.

This seems about as useful as an eBay Plus subscription (where $5 a year is the most I'd pay)

  • +1

Can we use the available balance?

    • Yes, you can either use your available balance or cards linked to your ShopBack account or both (half card and half Cashback) if Cashback is not enough @CDG to subscribe

  • +3

You need to give a better sweetener

I got more back for doing the Westpac card add on

    Hodl

  • +5

Got no ones back locking extra cashback behind a subscription.

  • +9

Things really have gone downhill for SB lately in terms of tracking, customer service and increases but I didn't think it would reach this point…

I've watched Bank Bonus get more and more forgotten, shoved off the screen and no special upsizes. Now you expect me to pay $5/month?

Seems a desperate cash grab and after the nightmare of Cheddar I'm acting on the early warning signs and withdrawing now. Rip Shopback.

  • Do i get higher cashback from restaurants dine in / take away?

      • I mean using it by scanning barcode in the restaurant/cafe for takeaway

        • I see, you mean using Shopback Pay. Might have to ask the store rep GYB for this.

    • -1

Unfortunately, the ShopBack Plus rates do not apply to ShopBack Pay at the moment. The ShopBack Plus rates will only apply to online transactions for now @JJkx

  • +4

This must be a joke, who thought that this is a good idea?

    • Probably the same person that thought it would be good to hire and then fire a quarter of the staff.

      • They did that?

  • +6

Spend $4.99 to get $5.00 back - WOW So generous, and thought this was an early April fool's (or late?)

Gonna vote with my clicks - via TopCashback and CR from now on

And gonna clear my SB account once all the payments have been confirmed

  • +3

Monthly subscriptions? Constant promos of buying entries into draws then the entry price is eventually added back as credit….its starting to smell like things a company scrambling for extra cash to remain solvent might do…..something feels off

  • +1

This is how spider spread their web to capture innocent insects (human) …!

ANZ plus gave no hoop interest rate only to withdraw after they got enough dumb people signed up !

  • +6

Who would've thought a cash back service would find a way to implement a subscription service and think their ozbargain customers would be dumb enough to buy into it. Given there's a bank behind these guys, I shouldn't be surprised that they want to fatten their already obese pockets.

    • Is ShopBack now a Cash Take service?

  • +4

The worst promo idea of a cashback website I could ever think of.

  • +14

Shopback going downhill, they are notorious for not paying up big cashbacks… personal experience

  • +6

Perhaps it wouldn’t be such a bad deal if cashbacks actually tracked first time, every time. Until then, it’s a gamble.

  • +14

Sorry OP, but Shopback's reputation has dropped way too far to introduce something like this…..

    • +8

TopCashback seems to be offering the best cashback deals these days.

      • +4

Topcashback has TA as well which is the best rep and customer service by a country mile.

        • Also, they have dropped their new user bonus to $5, which is the lowest among all cashback websites. I hope the mods will update the referral criteria here (it still says $20 for referee).

    • +1

Exactly. Very tone deaf, just like their scripted offshored responses.

  • +1

This really reeks of a set up before the 'put away' later

  • Just signed up Shopback Plus account. $5 deducted from my cashback balance. I clicked the banner on top saying $5 off any gift card purchase. I selected Amazon and it showed the cashback balance would remain the same. I bought. And, now I see $5 gift card amount deducted from my cashback balance. I was charged for it.

    • +1

      No empathy, sorry

    • -1

Dis you apply the $5 coupon it was pretty obvious

    • You cracked the deal!

    • Think the deal cracked you..

    • Update: All good. It took a while to refresh or fix everything in my account.

  • -1

$5 per month, rebated for $5 off a gift card … why wouldn't you do this?

  • +2

17 positives from SB employees or Westpac / St George / BankSA / RAMS and Bank of Melbourne employees ?

  • -3

I’ll gladly sign up to this. Been using SB for years and rarely had an issue and when I have, they’ve sorted it promptly.

Cashrewards OTOH I’ve constantly had issues with, forever having to follow-up.

TopCashback are the only other one I use regularly.

  • +5

You had a much better chance before you let the old gyb go. Would jump this if sb actually has a proper rep here.

  • +4

Why bother when other competitors are offering similar programs, ie TopCashback with the highest cashback guarantee. (For example, ShopBack is offering 20% cashback for adidas. Just submit a claim on TopCashback and bam you get 21% cashback instead, while ShopBack is offering this to their Plus customers only)

Essentially a 1% bonus cashback on any cashback upsizes (best part is everyone can take advantage of without the $5 subscription fee)

    Time to neg ShopBack

  • -1

So Westpac charge you $5 to open account and then this mobs will Rob you for another $5 … hahaha…..!

Time to close Westpac and move on !

Wake-up everyone before Ozbargain starts subscription to make a comment and higher subscription to read the deals !

  • +2

Wish they would spend some resources on acting on late cashback tickets!

Flap me just recently jumped through hoops and weeks to get 3 different BWS cashback
And Another one reported last week with no reply

    • Let's get this sorted for you. Can you drop me a DM with the order details please @horice

What happens if you don't buy your $5 gift card for the month? Forfeited? Or accumulated?

    • Yes, that's the real catch.

  • Aside from the badwagon bashing this may be a decent incentive depending on what is upsized on their Plus Day ("up to x10 rate") each month.

  • What's the difference between ShopBack and Charles Ponzi?

  • +1

    Cya shopback

  • +1

    Yeah no thanks.

  • -4

Will see how big the cashback is for ShopBack Plus members and I will give it try :)

Wouldn't be that bad buying a $5 Amazon GC each month.

    • +2

10/10 supporting this shit, carless people like you are the reason businesses keep pulling this crap on us.

      • I mentioned the cashback size and the free membership. How am I careless? While you mentioned nothing related? You want them to pay you for joining. It's good thought and I don't say no to it lol

        • +4

Because if you don’t sign up for this crap they’ll have to offer the benefits regardless of us paying or not so they can stay competitive. You’re just screwing it for the rest of us.

    • Ain't much, an extra 0.5 to 1%

      • +1

10x cashback on Plus day. I guess they will have something to hook people in.

  • +1

So some marketing genius has came to this idea?

I’m wondering what they are smoking

  • +3

Hodl folks. Offer to free trial or better coming soon don't dont sign up.

  • -4

OzBargain users boohoo over a perfectly fine subscription service that you actually profit from if you just utilise it properly. How on-brand.

  • The app is saying "get 20% more cashback plus exclusive deals" which is not the same as 10x…

  • +4

@gotyourback I was wondering where the inaccurate/confusing terms of free trial and 20% more cashback came from. Just found out that ShopBack Plus Singapore offered 1 month free trial, then S$1.99 monthly thereafter and 20% bonus. You may get a bit more positive response from OzB if you also offered a free one month trial.

    • ShopBack Plus Singapore in August

ShopBack Plus is free for the first month, after which you’ll pay S$1.99 monthly. The fee will be deducted from your existing cashback balance by default, failing which your default linked card will be charged.

The first edition of Plus Day is scheduled for 1 October 2024, so we’ll need to wait and see whether it’s a genuine 20% bonus…

    • let's wait for "offer match"?

    • +1

You leave out a major difference that SG Plus does not have $5 off code per month for eGC purchase. It probably does not have a dedicated gift card portal. The S$1.99 has to been earned back via higher cashback rate to make it worthwhile.

IMO, the only catch here is that forget to use the $5 code, or due to the use of it, you may fail to complete a challenge for a bonus.

    Free ads not a deal!

  • I had cashback tracked from Woolworths everyday purchase and it shows that cashback is $77 so I was happy but …

Just yesterday it shows cashback tracked at ZERO !

And there is no button to report..!

If I have not rechecked then how would I know that they didn't give me cash back!

This website and app is getting dodgy and scammy day after day !

    • Sorry about this @SydBoy! Need your help to drop me a DM with the details and I'll get this checked for you

      • I am talking about this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/864149

Here is the confirmation email i got from shopback !

        https://imgur.com/Tjr254O

So after getting this confirmation I thought it will come down whenever it comes but just yesterday it shows as $0 on my shopback app !!!

God knows how many similar cashback I missed out on !

  • tone deaf!

  • +1

So ShopBack values their customers in Singapore more than those in Australia? Seems Singapore gets a real offer

  • +1

    Absolutely nobody asked for this…

  • +1

    Yea, nah.
    Good luck with that😂

  • -1

Hi OP, I signed up, and bought a gift card with the $5 off. The transactions done, says completed, but unlike normal the gift card is not there…. Am I beta tester of this new option haha

    • @LikezDaBargainz apologies for this, we had a hiccup earlier on the gift cards purchased but the team has fixed this and the gift cards should be reflected in your account now. Let me know if you have any other questions

      • -2

Ok thanks ! But no thanks to the goose who -1 the legit factual comment.

        • @LikezDaBargainz Upvoted and removed the neg

        • What's wrong with a goose?

      • @gotyourback I sent you a DM

        • Received! Will get back to you soon

  • confusing like shopback offer where you pay $1+$3+$5+$10+$15+$20+$30+$50 worth of competition entries by credit/debit card THEN receive $134 cashback within a week

what's the point? you'd lose on card fees? do metrics show enough people buy worthless entries BUT never redeem cashback?

i guess because only sensical reason for this offer to exist, subscribe to plus but forget to claim free $5 gift card?

considered shopback the best but now topcashback then cashrewards seem to get most my clicks nowadays

  • +3

Is this a forewarning that the free Shopback accounts are going to be enshittified?

  • +2

For those who upset, we are not forced to sign up right? I meant the free account is still there? I never stick to one cashback provider anyway, always go to cheaper options so why bother, just ignore and move on?

    • +1

cashback rates on free accts might get nerfed to promote Shopback Plus

  • +1

Not well thought through or rolled out

  • +1

One of the few posts with comments > click throughs and votes … kinda tells the story innit

  • is this offline? tried to join but got 404 page

EDIT: updated APP then all good.

  • How to see the Plus rates for Uber Eats for existing customers?

    If I go here doesn't show - https://www.shopback.com.au/account/subscription
Neither does it show here - https://www.shopback.com.au/ubereats?content_uid=39gwtaNH8sM…

    • Sorry about this @JHoliday! At the moment for SBPlus members the rate for Existing Customers will be at $0.60 and $10.50 for New Uber Eats Customers

You can view the rates from the ShopBack App

      • Right so need the app to see the Shopback Plus rates, this information isn't going to be made available on the SB website?

        • +1

Yup at the moment if you're not subscribed, you may view the ShopBack Plus rates in detail via the App. But if you're subscribed to ShopBack Plus, both from the web and app it will show the ShopBack Plus rates on the rates list
