The X670Es are finally getting cheaper.

Tempted to pick one up for the 10G NIC, though it probably makes more sense to add a 10G adapter to my B650E.

This motherboard also has rare AM5 support for true bifurication.

  • Dual USB4 ports for up to 40Gbps transfer speed.
  • 10Gb 2.5 Gb Ethernet, WiFi 6E.
  • 16+2 teamed power solution rated for 70A per stage

  • Wasn't there issues with Asus warranties?

    • Not here, but the US had issues, yes.

    • Asus Australia RMA process sucks when handled by resellers (speaking from personal experience). Forget them ever agreeing to repair anything of theirs purchased from overseas.

  • Great motherboard. Great Price.

It’s actually been around this price for a month. Was waiting for an Amazon sale or to see if the 870 pushed the prices down further. Does anyone with more knowledge than me have opinions on this vs the 870? I can’t justify the $300 difference between the two

X870 is just B650E with USB4 as standard, so it’s meaningless if this already has USB4, which it does.

    • Like @FujinShu pointed out, X870 is just B650E with USB4. Comparing X870 (which is clever marketing from AMD to trick people, as it is really more like B650E+) to this:

      • This has 10Gbps LAN. It is generally something you need to use a x8 slot on X870 (or B650E) + an add-on card to achieve.
      • X870's USB4 chipset could be ASMedia and that one technically is faster for storage (ASMedia's USB4 chipset is PCIe gen 4 x4, whereas this board uses Intel Thunderbolt 4, which is PCIe gen 3 x4).
      • More USB ports on this one vs X870.
      • You need to get high end X870 in order to get PCIe x16*, x8, x4 support.
      • Some X870 could include WiFi 7 support.

In short, it depends on the board, but this one is hard to beat.

  • Still waiting on X670E Carbon WiFi. Has an M.2 E-key slot for changing WiFi adapters, and a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for adding networking or even USB 4.

    • you can add networking to an x16 slot

      • That board has x16*, x8, x4 slots.

      • You can, but this doesn’t have an M.2 E-key slot for changing WiFi cards, even though this has 10G networking and USB4.

        • I have a cheap B650 board with m.2 E-key slot, but dunno what Intel did to BE200, it doesn't work with the board.

        • doesn’t have an M.2 E-key slot

Why does that matter ? You can just install your WiFi card into the x16 or x8 or x4 slot 🤷‍♂️

          • @Nom: Because it takes up a PCIe slot, which could be used for other things such as SFP NICs, HBAs and other coprocessors such as sound cards (not really needed today), video and A.I. accelerators, and FPGAs.
Also, it keeps the motherboard in use by simply upgrading the WiFi rather than changing the motherboard or using a PCIe slot.

            • @FujinShu: Understood, but those are extremely niche requirements. 99% of the people using this board, will only have a graphics card in one PCIe slot - there's plenty of capacity for these buyers to use one slot for a WiFi card if they really really can't get a network cable to the PC.

Kinda silly to ask for advice on a product that doesn’t exist yet but based on how AMD handles compatibility should I expect this motherboard to work with the to be announced 9800x3D? I’m looking to upgrade my CPU for the first time in many years and this is the first time I’m considering AMD over Intel so I’m pretty clueless on such matters.

    • +1

Yes mate, it's an AM5 board - will be compatible

    • 9800X3D will likely perform similarly or close to the 7800X3D. Would wait to see how the market plays out before even beginning to consider your next move.

      This is not for gaming

  • Great deal! How does warranty work for this? Asus is a global brand so would you be able with Asus locally/Amazon or would you need to fight with Amazon Germany (and a German Asus that will likely ignore you)?

    • +1

I believe Asus in Aus won't deal with gray import, that means you will have to deal with Amazon.

    • Expect no support from Asus Australia for products purchased overseas.
