Deal is alright… But Kogan are not alright.

    • -2

Well, if there's nothing wrong with your product shouldn't be a problem. Got one from them, fingers cross, still working like a gem.

      • The phone's great. Just Kogan's shipping takes 4 score and 7 years and their 'customer service' leave a lot to be desired.

    • +1

      Whats the pitfalls with Kogan?

      • +12

Not speaking on SydBargainer's behalf - but my first and only experience with them (to date) went like this:

        1) Bought HTC One X. Received a defected model.
        2) Contacted them within the 14 day "Money back guarantee" period.
        3) They asked me for video proof of the defects. The emails didn't go through because they were too big, and I had to sign up for a file sharing website so I could send again.
        4) They finally sent me a return form. I return the phone to post office, but it gets lost in shipping (not Kogan's fault - so glad I paid for tracking).
        5) The phone was finally found and received by Kogan (after investigation). Instead of the refund requested, they accidentally sent me another One X (it looked like it was my old phone/another used phone).
        6) After returning the second phone, I finally got my refund.

I guess my experience wasn't that bad (I've had worse) but it was extremely lengthy, and it was annoying how Kogan's customer support works. I was replied to by a different staff member every time.

Really keen on a Black S3, but I'm not sure if I should take the risk and buy from them again.

edit: Not trying to discourage others from buying, just giving my past experience with Kogan.

          3) They asked me for video proof of the defects. The emails didn't go through because they were too big, and I had to sign up for a file sharing website so I could send again.

Well whts wrong with uploading it to youtube and send them the link at the first place? its is always easier from any smartphone.

        • why should you have to upload any video when he contacted them before the money back guarantee, plus i hated the fact the tried playing games like that "oh we didn't receive it".

Looks like this is added to my list of never to buy place.

COTD and now Kogan as it sounded like an incident i had with COTD, going through that B.S once is enough for me

        • I had to replace a Nikon d5100 that had a defective screen which was embarrassing since it was a gift to someone… and the process if drawn out alot (around 2 and a half weeks since received).
I would like to point out though that they initially asked me to send it out to the but when i asked how would I be reimburse they offered a courier to pick it up and take it which was very handy.

overall, though the process took a while I do not blame them for the defective product and I would shop with them again since i did eventually get what i want.

        • @manobik - Most workplaces have youtube banned. I sent them a 25mb email with videos attached, but apparently their email service can't handle emails that large, and deletes them (forgot the actual excuse). They recommended I upload to mediafire.

@bti_jet - I was annoyed by supplying video evidence as well. I was under the impression that the 14 day guarantee meant there was no questions asked, but in my case I actually had a badly defected model and they believed me after the videos.

Also, I have to defend them in regards to the lost item. It was Auspost/the couriers fault it was lost. It had been about 3 weeks and the online tracking said it still wasn't received by Kogan, so it wasn't them hiding it. Auspost has a strange rule which meant that only Kogan could request an investigation (and not me). They did it immediately.

        • hmm ok, doesn't sound too bad. First time ive heard of Auspost losing an item, but still an annoying fact of wanting to see a video of it not working, 14 day guarantee should be no questions asked within that time frame.

  • great price
    well spotted
    it was $100 dearer yesterday
    OH well I bought elsewhere
    last nite

  • -6

you need to include the delivery price in title….. I think its +$19

    • +7

      It's 449 on the site. +19 = 468 :)

  • +4

I would also add note to caution that this is the i9300 and not the i9305, so no 4G/LTE for buyers.

The i9305 from Kogan is still a reasonable price.

    Geoff

  • How long is kogan's shipping? Would it arrive before xmas?

    • +2

      Very, very slow.

    • takes about 45 business days mate

      • +3

Not in my experience. Around 7-10 days.

        • +1

Yeah what Steptoe said, usually that period.

Although I believe Kogan needs to improves shipping notifications between customers and the purchased item, i have no real bad faults with them (yet).

  • +1

Would you guys advise One x , S3 or wait for a nexus to eventually be avaliable?

    • +2

Definitely Nexus. It's a faster phone, better software, better build quality (and looks nicer in my opinion) and an incredible price.

Only reason I'd consider the S3 is if you needed the extra storage afforded by a microSD slot.

      • +2

I would have bought one by now if google wasn't so disastrously mysterious and difficult.

      • Eh, I think the One X has the better build quality and looks better than the Nexus 4, and with the Jellybean update, is the fastest according to benchmarks. Software is indisputable though, if you want the latest version of Android, then Nexus 4.

        • +2

My comparison actually mostly overlooked the One X - I was comparing to the GS3, but my thoughts are:

          1. The Nexus 4 is straight out more responsive. It doesn't really matter how the benchmark numbers come out, side-by-side, the Nexus 4 does what you tell it to faster.

          2. HTC only tends to provide official software update support for one generation, compared to two for Samsung and three(ish) for Nexus.

          3. The build quality on the One X is very good, definitely, though I haven't actually seen a Nexus 4 in person. That point was a direct comparison to the S3.

The One X is a good phone, but it's more expensive, less responsive in real world use and will probably not receive software updates past Jellybean. For me, that makes it a hard phone to recommend.

edit: Oh, I forgot. The Nexus 4 has no 4G, so if that's important to you, consider the One XL or the GS3 4G. I'd add that to my original post if I could.

        • Considering that the One X is the same price if we take Kogan's price and Google Play's price, and that the Nexus 4 will not being coming into stock AT LEAST until 16 weeks later (the amount it was preordered up to before it ended up simply not being able to order), then I find the One X pretty easy to recommend. Good points though. If you're a person who likes to listen to a lot of music/watch movies, then the One X's 32GB is pretty appealing compared to 8GB/16GB.
Yes, the One X was very unresponsive whilst it was on 4.0.3, but HTC made quite a few optimizations and it ran at 60 FPS on 4.0.4, so I'd imagine Project Butter would improve the fluidity further.
Either way, if you can get your hands on a Nexus 4, definitely get it if you want futureproofing and you definitely don't want to go the custom rom route. Your 2nd point is indisputable.

  • The 4G one is worth the extra.

    • Do we have to pay more $$ for 4G networks? or do we get 4G for free as long as our phones supports it?

      • Depends on your provider. Telstra is no extra cost.

  • mmm, so tempted to buy one of these instead of waiting for the nexus 4.
I just can't decide which one, battery life is pretty much equal on both isnt it?

    • +2

imo, the main difference would be the nexus' quick os updates vs s3's micro sd slot

    • S3 has a better battery life. N4 has been criticised for its battery life. That said I'd choose a N4 myself.

      Reference: http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/phone-fight-lg-nexus-4-v…

      • I caved and bought a S3 (4G) i9305 for $532 a couple of nights ago, I was going to wait for a N4 but my current phone is at death's door. Even though I use Optus and have no 4G here I feel the extra 1GB of RAM was worth it and the phone is future proofed for 4G. Having said that though $468 delivered for a 3G model is a great price.

  • +3

I'm tempted to take a gamble and wait a few weeks - there's a chance that Kogan will drop it even lower. $449 + $19 was also the price of s3 when they had the promotion a couple of months ago before it went back up again

    • +2

Or buy it now and enjoy it for a few weeks more.

on 28 Degrees Card, and claim back the Shopper Protection Pricedrop.

        • Will this work despite not being purchased from an australian retailer? They are shipping from Kogan (HK).

        • Of course it will, rt these phones are the same thing wherever you buy them from.

  • Patiently waiting for their deal on samsung galaxy nexus

    • Ditto! I have been literally hunting everywhere all day everyday.

  • Hmm this or note2?

    • Been waiting for a note 2 deal but haven't seen a decent one recently. Last time around was $550 shipped from some random website…

  • -4

galaxy s4 is on the way ,, for early next year release

  • -4

Good deal, outdated phone. Wait for S4 or get the iPhone5. Even Nexus is better despite the fact that it doesn't have 4G.

    • wot

    • +1

First world problem at its finest. I use my iPhone 4 heavily for work and play and it serves me fine. No ones needs all that processing power that's available

      • I used to feel that way as well until I saw the light.

    • -1

IMO: s3 is a better phone than iphone5. not sure about s4.

  • Thanks for the info OP. Ordered, got email advising expected dispatch 17/12/12.

  • Good price, but as others have noted, I would strongly recommend paying for a 4G enabled version. Optus (hence I assume virgin) and Telstra don't charge extra for using 4G, so buying a 3g phone is almost like paying for obsolete tech.

Once you've gone 4G (my experience is with Telstra), you'll see that the money is well spent

    • From my experience 3G and 4G with Telstra doesn't really differ much unless you are downloading a large file.

  • I got a Note 2 from Kogan, it looks like it was new, with all the "stickers" intact.
It was the European Model I think it was from Italy or something.

Took around 7 days to arrive, 3 days or so processing then 3-4 days to arrive via Fedex.
Haven't had any issues with the phone yet.

  • Ordered one yesterday. CBF waiting for a Nexus and its unknown availability.
It's to replace a work phone, so locked to Vodaphone atm :(

  • It was 2 weeks ago on thursday I ordered Samsung galaxy s3 from them and surprisingly arrived just within a week. No delay or whatsoever. However, they seemed to give me the wrong tracking since it arrived at my place with Toll express, and they give me the Fedex tracking instead. Anyway, as long as it arrived safely, it is ok.

I think the price drop could be possibly due to the rumour of S4 going around the net. I heard, it got 4+4 processor, 13 Mp camera, Full HD screen, and the screen that cannot be broken.

    • +3

I heard it eats small orphan children and shits iPhone's.

  • Already expired, back up to $509 now.

  • any chance you could be doing this deal again soon ?
