  • Bought a Gesture chair during the last sale. Great chair but may not be everyone's cup of tea. They have a showroom in Melbourne (Southbank) where you can book an appointment and discuss your needs.

  • Shipping isn't available for Queensland. Select a different address to continue

arkienvironments might be an option for you.

  • Nice sale, this 25% off brings the checkout price closer to 2021 level
Love my fully spec'd Gesture, really saved me many $$$ of chiro and back pain from the officeworks gaming chairs

may not be everyone's cup of tea but Steelcase is a reasonable alternative to Herman-Miller price tags. (Still very up there though)

I am the proud own of both a Leap V2 and Aeron classic.

    I paid $1170.50 for a brand new Leap V2 back in 2021.

I love how padded it is and I use it at home for work and gaming. The fact that you can sit in it any way you want makes it the ideal chair for general usage.

Managed to find an Aeron on marketplace for $50 so I use that at work and it's also amazingly comfortable but in a way where it makes you sit ergonomically, and despite it being over 20 years old it works without a hitch.

  • Would Gesture be an upgrade from Aeron? I never got used to Aeron for some reason…

    • These are vastly different chairs.
Their mesh Karman performs similarly to Aeron, you can find many detailed comparisons on YouTube.
I own both Gesture and Karman, never had a chance for HM chairs because I don't want second-hand chairs and the price for a new Aeron in Au is just insanity. What I can say is that the two steelcase chairs feel very different. The Karman is more like a cradle where you can rock and the Gesture is more like a sofa where it holds you in one position.
I'm not sure the reason why you don't get used to Aeron, but if it is that you don't like mesh chairs, Gesture is one of the best options you can choose.

      • Can you let me know your opinion of the lower back support in the Karman and Gesture? Specifically the sacrum support? My current chair encourages a rounded back (lumbar), and the pelvis to rotate forward (butt sticking out). I'm hoping the Karman or Gesture are better for keeping the pelvis in a neutral alignment and spine straight from the tailbone up. (I have read good and bad about the leap in that regard). Thank you for any opinion you care to offer :)

        • Unfortunately, all ergonomic chairs will promote a sitting position like this, it is just how well they did it.
I think Karman (without lumbar support) is milder than Gesture, Karman's mesh back is quite malleable and should better accommodate your habits. However it still encourages an 'S' shape.
I strongly encourage you to try the chairs yourself if you have an aspect you especially care about.

          • @charmandad: Thanks for the info. I know, not something to be buying without trying. My only options in Adelaide are HM, from one retailer who doesn't inspire confidence based on a google review.

            • @brighthope9438: @brighthope9438 visit green edge commercial to try steelcase chairs in Adelaide. They have a gesture and a leap to try in their office, just ask.

Just something to add, if anyone is wanting to get a leap v2 but wants a headrest, I got this aftermarket headrest and highly recommend it: https://www.officelogixshop.com/products/steelcase-leap-v2-h…

    • +1

@MisterCorey The factory headrest is only $261 pre discount, so it seems no point getting the third party one?

      • +1

The original headrest (from what i've read) is really bad and doesn't offer enough support. I can't comment personally on it, I got my steelcase 2nd hand and then the headrest afterwards.

        • +1

Thanks. Just did more research and it seems that the officelogix one is superior. Will be getting the chair without the official headrest.

  • Steel Series V2 - Leap - Gesture what is the big difference between them all and which is best it's a bit confusing.

    • Go watch some YouTube reviews and you’ll have a rough idea. Best to visit the showroom and try them out

  • how do you get the Steelcase Series 2 w/Headrest for 846? i have clicked through and have managed to get it at 948

  • Will there be a Black Friday sale for Steelcase chairs? If so, should I hold off and wait until the Black Friday sale for a potentially bigger discount?

    • Hard to say if that will be over 30%

  • I bought a Gesture with headrest. Thank you for posting the sale. My only disappointment is the 4 week wait for shipping, my back needs it stat.

    • Did you try the gesture? Any thoughts of Leap vs Gesture

I’m confused between Leap and Gesture.
I have Series 1 in my office which I really like but planning to order Leap considering the reviews of Leap, haven’t tried that though.

      • I didn't try the gesture. I came to the conclusion that it is made for corporate clients to be able to set up an office and fit most people. I am average height and, ahem, mostly average weight. I think I'll be OK.

I didn't want super aggressive lumbar support because I have realised that sitting should be a more active task, using core muscles, and not passive and completely supported by the chair. The gesture seems like a good middle ground there.

The main difference between the Leap and Gesture is that the Gesture has a synchro tilt mechanism while the Leap has a Forward Glide mechanism. Synchro tilt is newer and in more high end chairs. It's about leaning back and opening up the hips to 135 degrees or whatever for a bit of a rest.

Researching these chairs is a nightmare. There are so many conflicting opinions, and so many people buying old ones refurbished (or not) which muddies the waters on whether their issues are just from a 15 year old chair. Many videos are from vendors, as good as they seem they are still selling chairs.

I saw just one review from an ergonomics expert for the chairs I was considering. I put a fair amount of weight on his opinion, because he is a posture expert first, who does a few chair reviews due to popular demand. He's not just a chair review guy. Given all the information I had to work with (that the Gesture was a solid choice), his opinion sealed the deal: "Is this a good chair? It's a great chair".

I honestly think I could have bought the Leap (with no headrest) and saved $500. The Leap is clearly a classic chair that was just done right, maybe it can't be easily improved upon? Dunno, but I didn't want to make cost a major factor, as this is a buy it for life (10 years at least) scenario, to protect an aging back that has sat poorly for a long time. The sticker shock should fade over time …

        • Thank you very much for the detailed response. I have booked a showroom visit for this week, and hopefully, I will be able to make a decision after the trial.

  • FYI - Living Edge will have 25% off for Black Friday is anyone if holding out for a Herman Miller Aeron, they will give it to you early in store if you ask now. (Confirmed in Sydney)
