WDTV Live Network Media Player $77 at JB Hi-Fi

60

Saw this today (11/12/12) at JB Hifi in Galeries Victoria in Sydney CBD. Not a bad cheap Christmas present for someone. Unfortunately not eligible for $50 cashback deal however. :(

Is this valid for the cashback?

    Connected Life products include: WD TV® Live Streaming™, WD TV® Live™ Hub, My Net™ Routers, My Book® Live™ & My Book® Live™ Duo
Promotion excludes WDTV Live Model No.: WDBAAP0000NBK-AESN

    • Yes, you might be right. I don;t know model number but the name seems to suggest this is the excluded model.

    • No, as you mentioned, WDBAAP0000NBK-AESN (ie non WIFI version) is excluded from the cashback offer.

    • No it's not a valid model for the cashback.

This isn't news either, these have been this price for a couple of months. I saw them posted here originally but I can't find it now, must have been part of a bigger list of specials.

  • nice thought, but

Promotion excludes WDTV Live Model No.: WDBAAP0000NBK-AESN

and the JB model is WDBAAP000NBK-AESN

    so no dice :(

  • Thankyou. I have edited deal to correct my error.

  • yep, saw this as well (about 30min ago). unfortunately the wrong model to get the cash-back.

I wonder how many have fallen for it?

Better off getting the live version for 97 from hn or price match then get $50 gift card.
    47 instead of 77…

This price was $77 for a month already.

    • Yeah I posted it when they dropped the price in store then online.

  • For the extra you can claim the $50 and still be better off >_<

  • If HN or OW are out of stock of the Streaming model, Dick Smith has them for $117,which is still $30 off the usual price and with the $50 gift card brings the cost down to $67, still better than this deal for a better device.

  • This version is better than WDTV live steaming. All because of custom firmware.

WDTV Live + Wifi adaptor > WDTV Live Streaming

But costs about $90 (unit + wifi adaptor) without $50 rebate.

I know the target audience (OzBargain) is generally geeks who love to tinker and install custom firmware but I bought two of the Streaming versions as gifts for people who wouldn't know or care about custom firmware if it slapped them on the arse and called them Virginia. So, for 99% of the population, the Streaming model is a better device.

      • Yea I know what you mean. But features wise, they are the same just without wifi this one and slightly less apps, not like those apps would work anyway eg. Netflix.

For majority of people streaming is cheaper and plug'n play

  • Unfortunately not eligible for $50 cashback deal however. :(

you're better off getting the Streaming one for $49 after cashback…

  • I bought this one instead because it will be wired in and not wireless, plus I want to try custom FW on this. See what all the hoopla is about

I've got both this one and the WDTV streaming one for just watching movies of a hard-drive go for this one…
I've found the streaming to be slow and has a laggy interface.

  • hey does anyknow if it plays mkv files and output 5.1 via optical? i got the ps3 and was slightly surprised when it can't play 90% of mkvs.

    • Yes and yes

      • okay thanks!
