20% off Herman Miller Aeron Remastered Graphite with Fully Adjustable Arms $1908 + Delivery ($0 SYD Pickup) @ Living Edge

2130
VIPBF

The chair is listed for $2,385 but a 20% discount applicable by chatting through live chat.
The agent said that it is a Black Friday discount but it is not advertised on their website.

Update: The discount code is VIPBF (thanks to user lordrupertliverpool)

I wanted one of these chairs as I have been working and studying from home over the past 10 months and I'm starting to get bad lower back pain.

I have been keeping my eye on the second hand Herman Miller market but they don't come up often in SA and the prices are absolutely ridiculous. e.g. Someone wanting $2100 for a 3 year old chair, someone wanting $900 for a 18 year old chair, someone wanting $500 for a broken chair where the levers and adjustments don't work. I have seen a few Sahls come up for $500 but I really wanted the Mirra or Aeron as they are specifically recommended for their lower back support, which is what I need.

If you are purchasing yours for work / working from home it would be worth chatting to your boss to see if they would be willing to trat it as a fringe benefit. As mine is for work and study, it is Fringe Benefits Tax exempt, so my boss was happy to buy it for me as a fringe benefit meaning she can claim back the GST and pass that discount onto me, as well as me being able to pay for it with my pre tax income, so it basically brings the cost down to $1,988 - 180.72 GST = $1,807.28 - 32.5% (tax) = $1,219.91 post tax equivalent. The benefit of doing it as a fringe benefit would be that you can claim back the GST and you get the tax saving benefit immediately compared to buying it and claiming it as a tax deduction which will need to be depreciated over its useful life instead of getting the whole benefit in the year of purchase.

I didnt ask if the 20% off promotion was only for the Aeron but I would guess that it could be across their whole range.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

But that is literally inflation. Everything has gone up and this chair is a perfect example where it's like yeah it's just a chair how coukd the cost have gone up so much. But a chair, especially one like this has so many inputs and shipping costs and all costs have gone up.

      • +4

If we assumed inflation was a flat 8% (the highest quarterly CPI over the last 4 years) and we applied this from 2020 to 2024 (using some smooth-brained maths):

        $1500 * 1.08^4 = $2040

Obviously inflation hasn't been that high all throughout the period and there's other factors to consider, but at the end of the day my comment is just a piss take on how ridiculous the RRP has become.

        • +2

You also need to account for the strength of the Aussie dollar, given Herman Miller is a US company. The AUD is worth a fair bit less than it was 4 years ago, and as a result we're seeing higher prices on every US product sold here.

    • +1

I paid $1675 two weeks ago. This hardly seems like a bargain lol

        Link?

        • +4

Pro Furniture in Melbourne i found the link on FB marketplace. They have a warehouse/showroom to try before you buy.

Not sure why i am getting downvoted for finding the same thing $300 cheaper lol

          • +2

@creesy: They are not the same thing, you compared a new one with a "no warranty sale" item.

            • @blueboy410: I got a 12 year manufacturer warranty with my Aeron so im not sure what you mean…

Chances are i wont need it though because these things are bullet proof if looked after.

My HM Aeron drafting chair is over 14 years old hasnt needed a thing.

          • @creesy: Yeah I was looking at these too. They are $1799 in SA but they are not authorised dealers so the warranty that they provide is an in house warranty, not the Herman Miller warranty. I would rather pay the extra $200 and get the official warranty. I almost bought one through these guys but then I noticed that they have several business names all with relatively new ABN's, and if I'm buying a chair with a 12 year warranty I would feel more comfortable buying one from a company that is more likely to still be around in 12 years.

            • @haggertm: Depends on the person i guess this deal wasnt current when i purchased so the next best price was like $600 or so more.

Id rather the $600 discount to be honest but only because I trust the herman miller brand and parts are easy to change and purchase.

            • @haggertm: They are $1579 for black friday atm

Assume you mean this, discount for no warranty?
Do you know where it comes from to have no warranty?

        • -1

Definately wasnt "no warranty" when i purchased. I never actually looked at their website. Spoke to the guy through facebook.

That said it may be hard to claim warranty from people such as this but my other HM is 14 years old and hasnt needed a thing so im my opinion still worth it for the discount considering most parts are sub $300 and readily available.

No idea where they came from but its a registered business etc. So im sure they arent stolen if thats what you are implying…

          • @creesy: are they brand new though?

            • @leiiv: Yeh brand new in box, serial number checks out. Definately genuine no questions about that.

But as other have stated they arent "official" resellers so warranty may be a problem.

Wait till you find out how much the price of bitcoin has changed in recent years.

    • I bought one from Amazon when I lived in the US for less than USD$700. It was 10 years ago, so it was when the AUD was buying like $1.10 USD. I wish I'd kept it when I moved back to Aus but at the time it was too much of a pain to ship. If I'd known how much it would appreciate in value I would have bought tons of them!

      • When I knew I was going to move, I went and got my hands on two more HM chairs just to stuff into shipping. I should have gotten more.

  • Have a HM Aero at the office and an Ergohuman V2 at home. Think both are as good as each other for back support and if I had my time again, I’d get two of the much cheaper V2’s.

    • The ergohuman sadly isn’t comfortable for tall people.

  • A lot of these Herman Miller chairs have gas cylinder wobble, which is a common problem that leads to bad ergonomics. So better to test it out before you buy.

  • I purchased pre-covid for around this price from innerspace QLD. I also purchased a third party head rest. To be honest the head rest doesn't really help my chronic neck pain, so I probably wouldn't purchase that again. The chair is great and after 4 years, and multiple house moves it has held up without much damage. Would recommend it if you got the cash to throw.

    • I guess it depends on the individual. I bought an Engineered Now headrest for my work chair and it made such a difference to my neck pain that I bought one for home too.

    Typing from my Aeron chair.

Personal tip: Given the price of HM chair, I would highly recommend putting yourself on these chairs in their showroom before purchcase. In particular, the Aeron chair has 3 sizes and their size guide is not every clear (at least to me).

I am about 6 feets and 190lbs, based on their size chart I am between size B and C, awkward spot… so the size B and C are not only different in scale, they are more like diff style to my size/weight.

Size B: The sit pad is smaller, so I can put my ass in deep and get good lumbar support, while my legs are on the ground with good 90 degree angle. Bad thing is, it has shorter back pad, sitting is fine but my back will reach the hard edge when I lay down.
Size C: It's more relaxing type. The back pad is bigger so I get fully back support all the time. But the sit pad is too big to me (sry don't have long legs). To get lumbar support I have to sit deep, then my lower leg hit the sit pad edge which is not comfy. Even tho, the I rarely can feel the lumbar support.

I have watched many youtube videos and some reddit posts, most of ppl suggested Size C if you fall in the "B or C" area in size chart. But to me I definitely will pick size B. It's really FMMV.

    • I am about the same height & 74kg. I am on a C at the moment but I owned a B when I lived in the US and thought it was a better fit for me. But you're right as being an awkward spot! Definitely agree with testing them out as much as you can, especially now they are so freakin expensive.

    IKEA Marcus >>>>

    • +3

The Marcus has horrible back support.

    • No way, I had one and it gave me insane lower back pain from non-existent back support.

    • I've been using one for over a decade - and I work from home. Bought out of frustration from cheaper ones disintegrating when I was in university. It took about a week to get used to it, but 14 years later its still holding up. The pleather seat is in one piece, but the headrest is starting to crack.

I have no real complaints for the money other than the fixed arm rest and lumbar, but luckily both work for me.

I heard they replaced the old model with a new one, have not sat in it to compare.

  • +1

Another recommendation for the Aeron from me - I got mine third hand from Marketplace for $550 about a year ago. WFH 8 hours a day every day and I don't feel any fatigue at the end of the day. I think it's about 15 years old.

  • +1

Have had my HM Aeron for about 18 years now, just replaced the gas strut, daily use, and 8 hours every weekday, it has been fantastic.

  • I bought one secondhand for $700 then purchased new parts in total was $1100. I love the chair but couldnt see myself ever buying one brand new.

    • where do you source for new replacement parts?

      • The Chair King

        • It's worth shopping around; Chair King lists a replacement seat pan for $349. I bought one from Living Edge in 2021 for $205.

          • @eug: Honestly other things Ive bought from ebay too

            • +1

              @ashumz: Thanks for being honest!

Code is generic, no need to bother with chat.

    It's VIPBF.

  • Without humble bragging too much, I’ve got both an Aeron and Mirra at work and a Mirra at home and rate the Aeron the best. Just couldn’t stomach spending the extra $1k for a one day a week WFH chair.

  • -1

Herman Miller is made in China, it should be cheaper.

    • +1

Same as iPhone. And Macs. And Tesla. Also should be cheaper.

      • -5

Nah it's different with designer shit

        • I agree with you, the complexity of making an iPhone/Tesla vs mould-pressing a chair lol

  • Anyone know of any budget chairs that are good that suit a 6’3 heavy guy? As cheap as possible but maximum maybe $750? No idea what makes chairs more expensive than others/better than others

    • +1

Up your budget and buy an aeron.

      • Why? - also what about like the secret lab chairs titan evo etc?

        • +4

They are comparively junk ergonomics wise. But you need to sit in chairs to really feel it and see if it works with your body.

I'd look for a size c Aeron on marketplace after trying one in store if possible. You can easily get one under 750.

          • @Phesto: Thats another thing how are you supposed to try chairs when all the retailers are online? I don't know of any stores at least here in Melbourne

            • +1

@ThatNintendoKid: This store has a shop in Melbourne.

              • @Phesto: Ah ok cool good to know I was more just meaning like stores in general are online so very hard to try before you buy

          • @Phesto: how are you able to get them under 750 when most ads i see are over 1200?

        • +3

          Why?

Because you pulled that budget out of thin air and I agree it is a huge struggle to mentally accept a chair can cost this much. But it is worth it by far.

          Each to their own.

          • @watwatwat: I was just asking was features he could tell me that justifies that price that’s all a chair can cost whatever but if I can understand why it is so expensive as it has xyz features then I can understand more

            • @ThatNintendoKid:

I was just asking was features he could tell me

              Google it. Youtube it.

It's the fundamental design that distributes weight to other areas of your body and away from your lower back that is the key here.

        • +1

Ask in another 25 years, which is how long aerons (released 1994) have been around longer than the Titan, and we'll see how well the gamer FOTM chairs are holding up.

    • I’m a similar size and recently got one of these - https://furnitureatwork.com.au/products/avatar-high-back-exe…

Good back support and very comfy

  • For those who purchased their Aeron new, is the mesh really tight? As in when you sit in it, does the mesh sink in or is it tight and keeps its shape? I bought a second hand Aeron and when I sit on it, it sinks a little bit so wanting to know if that is normal or it should be really tight and doesnt sink.
    Have a size B and I am 78kg.

    • I got mine from end of Oct. The mesh is pretty firm… and I think it's in 12yr coverage

  • -1

I bought one brand new in box with invoice and warranty for $1675 size C two weeks ago.

If anyone is interested ill figure out how to share the listing to here.

    • spill then m8

    • Sure please do share.

      • Website is pro furniture link is up the top pf this page somewhere but it seems they arent offering warranty now…

But if that doesnt bother you they are still $1679 in box

    • +2

The warranty doesn't bother too much but your Herman Miller could be fake or B stock from unknown seller, but if not and everything is good its a better deal

bought one from living edge ~3 years ago for $1790

    would recommend

massive upgrade from the trash gaming chair I had that started becoming uncomfortable after a few hours when WFH all day every day during covid

  • Thanks, bought 5.

    • +5

2k for a chair for 10+ years is much better value than 3k for a phone for 2 years.

      • Agree with the sentiment, but anyone who spends $3k on a phone is a chump. More so if you only keep it for 2 years.

  • I bought Aeron for $900 12years ago, its still as good as day one(except black mesh is faded a little), all mesh still as tight as new(I am 92kg)
also got Embody but meh.. I don't like it, now it is my wife's chair for puzzles.

  • +1

I have this chair in size C, I got it as an ex display a few years ago for $1500.
Absolutely amazing, no pressure points, the mesh seat and back is some feat, which is probably why the original is in a museum!
The chair still feels like new after 5 years of use, I weight approx 90kgs.
Highly recommend an ergonomic chair of some sort rather than tacky looking gaming chairs.

  • We have the Aeron and Mirra, TBH I think the Mirra is the better chair. Bought ours during Covid for $1.2k. Inflation……

  • Ugh 110 delivery and assemble. Honestly should be included at that price.

    • +1

      It comes fully assembled

  • +1

Bought one for $300 off marketplace. Was manufactured in 2008. Needs some more gas but otherwise it's a beauty after a spit and polish.

  • Great chairs. Found one near a dumpster at work with the seat mesh hole. Took it home and got the mesh chair replaced. It's so good! Coming from a Sayl, I thought what else can be improved on this, but once I go the Aeron, it's so different. I now get why it's the best selling office chair.

    • how did you get the mesh replaced? got a link to this place?

      • Just on marketplace

        • did you find another chair and bought the chair for the mesh from marketplace?

          • @RQNinja: I bought a replacement mesh from Living Edge in 2021 for $205, if that helps.

  • Im 179cm what size should I choose?A B or C?

  • +1

As has been alluded to, Pro furniture sells the Aeron with warranty for $1879-99 and without warranty for $1679.

2nd hand I’ve seen Remastered’s go for as low as $550 on marketplace/ebay, though it’s pretty rare to find them under 1k.

  • This or embody for someone with a lot of back and overall joint issues due to inflammation? (Shoulder, neck ,etc)

    • Try them both out, I suspect the Aeron would suit you better.

  • I absolutely love my Aeron Remastered with PostureFitSL. For me, without any doubt, the most comfortable office chair I have ever owned or used. I spend 8 hours plus per day sitting in it and couldn't be happier.

When first getting an Aeron, be prepared to give the chair 2 weeks for your body to get used to it. I found my upper legs took about a week or so to get used to the mesh and front lip. Also be prepared to adjust you work area as it really helped me sit in a correct ergonomic position. With all my previous chairs I would slump forward and had to put my keyboard further away. With the Aeron I sit correctly upright and correspondingly, they keyboard needs to be closer.

The polished aluminium chassis version was also worth the extra $ - it looks absolutely beautiful.

Be aware that the mesh feels cold in winter but nicely cool in summer.

Highly recommended if you spend a lot of your time in an office chair.

  • Just ordered and the item is now showing as on backorder once added to cart. Estimated Delivery: 1 to 3 weeks

  • +1

Absolutely worth the investment (and I paid over $2000 for this chair!).

I suffered for years with lower back pain after using the typical officeworks chairs for 10+ hours during my working days. But I kept saying that I couldn't justify the price when it was ~$1000.

I finally bit the bullet and paid the extra premium of $1000.

And I will do it again, because ever since I got this chair, I haven't suffered any lower back pain!

    • +2

That's just about the identical story to myself.

When I think back on this, I did temporarily see a physiotherapist >10 years ago and they never mentioned anything about this chair. But, they were very keen to get me booked in to regular appointments (in which I said I didn't want to).

So I consider the physio industry to be a scam. For people who WFH and have sore lower back, they could just recommend this chair and go from there. Instead, they are incentivised to make you pay regularly for them to show you how to do exercises that you could look up on youtube.

      • So I consider the physio industry to be a scam.

As with most things, it depends on the specific person you're seeing. The physio I saw never pushed me to re-book an appointment and always left it to me to decide whether or not I need to come back.

On the other hand a chiro I visited was very persistent in trying to get me to come back. Not sure if they're all like that.

        • +5

On the other hand a chiro

Ok, I realise I already used the word "scam" and now I need to find a word that is 10x worse than that to convey what I think of the predatory clowns in the fake "chiropractic" industry.

      • So I consider the physio industry to be a scam.

Most the physios I have seen are "let me get you fixed up so that you can get back to your sport and hopefully you don't need to come back."

Because I have gone out of my way to find good physios.

I think you have been seeing crap physios (and yes, there are plenty out there, especially in Asia).

  • +2

Can confirm the code works with the Embody, so probably across their range as OP suggested.

Takes the price down from $3,190 to $2,552

  • I tried one out and it was horrible for posture and every time you moved it would wobble, creak and crack. Never again. Will stick to my $200 officeworks chair
