For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

Video: Is a 5700X3D Upgrade Really Worth It?. May be interesting to some considering this question. However, he also upgrades the GPU at the same time so his benchmarking doesn't show the boost from the CPU upgrade in isolation.

  • Do I upgrade my 5700X that I bought for like $300 2 years ago? Or wait for the price to go down more?

    • +1

dont even bother getting this if u have a 5700x…

      • +1

I had a look into this to upgrade a 5600X here (almost the same) and bought it yesterday - It is worth it in a lot of use cases it is a clear and noticable upgrade, though on some titles its minimal, some its a large difference in fps

    • +1

Figure out how much you can get your 5700X then decide (assuming you have a reasonably powerful GPU).

I recently upgraded my secondary PC to 5700X for $159 and I saw an eBay listing of an sold 5700X (brand new) for less than that amount.

  • For a productivity pc, would anyone have any recommendations for a cpu that is around this price point?

Looking to run some databases that perform some intensive operations. The database vendors recommend 16 cores @ 3.0ghz.

Would I be better of buying a second hand xeon processor? I would like it to be compatible wiht gigabyte ethernet and 32gb of ram

  • How good the 5700x3d is vs other cpus
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-lFgbzU3LY

but remember you're limited by your gpu

  • Just pulled the trigger, upgrading from a 1600X.
Hopefully as good as everyone says.

This one is US$150.94 (~A$233.11) with coupon AUBF30 and if you use TopCashback 20% cashback you'll get A$30 back.

While the one in OP never stacked with cashback.

    • Any idea on this store and reliability? I assume since it's affiliated that means it's good to trust?

      • +1

The store has good feedback and it's listed as a "Big Save" store with the advantages below. Scam stores typically would not get this branding.

US $0.64 coupon code if delayed
        Refund if package lost
        Refund if items damaged
Refund if no delivery in 30 days
        Free returns within 90 days

        • Thanks. Was looking at store reviews. Was a little put off by only 17 reviews on the item with most of those being the same auto translated words or Brazilian reviews with no words at all.

          • @Jorgonaut: I'd take a guess and say tax related. Their import tax is crazy and if sellers mark the true value on the package they can pay a fortune. It's not uncommon to see bad reviews from them.

Still says "Awaiting Flight" on order tracking. Anyone else having the same?

    • +2

Same for me still. Since 24 Nov.

      • I saw that my order was in-flight. Go to your orders and just hover your mouse cursor on the track order button to bring up an updated info on your order. That's how I found out that it was in-transit.

    • Saying the same for me as well.

    • same here. Another I item I brought at the same time (different store) supposedly cleared customs on Monday

    • +1

Mine finally changed to flight departure this evening, after saying awaiting flight since the 24th November.

      • same. guess both our items are on the same flight.

        • Same situation as you guys, hopefully a good sign

    • +1

Still waiting - over two weeks and flight delayed - great news though Refund if no delivery in 30 days

      • +1

Same here, last update was a departed flight on the 5th

Pretty sure they’re all backed up together

        • Yep, still looking the same. The December 19th delivery window draws near…

  • I received email stating delivered which was not true. I contact seller and all they keep telling me the order is ok and be patient. However, under my account I don't see order anymore. I will give them another week before I submit refund request because they aren't giving me an answer.

  • Mine been stuck at Awaiting flight from 26th Nov, starting to get suspicious

    • +1

It's really nothing to worry about. Every year the postal system in China gets overloaded with 11/11 Singles Day and Black Friday. Basically your package and others are sitting in a container ready to be loaded onto the next available flight. Most of mine from 11/11 started to get on flights this week.

You'll find this to be the case with non-Choice orders on AliExpress. Choice have delivery guarantees so they're getting the express treatment.

      • Thanks for your feedback.

  • +1

Mine was delivered today. Will try to test it this weekend. It had a wierd little smudge on the top of it (kind of looked like pencil lead - it wiped off ok). Maybe these have been removed from builds?? Im not stressed as long as it works as expected!

    • Same. Got it delivered today. Most likely they aren't brand new and rather used and refurbished.

    • +1

      Tested and working fine.

  • +2

    Yay, mine finally arrived today!

Installed and up and running with no issues whatsoever.

Need to do some benchmarking or gaming to see any difference though.

    • If you don’t mind me asking did you ever have any luck with auspost tracking updates, or you just had it turn up?

      • AusPost updates were more up to date than the AliExpress ones for me.
Weeks ago I got the Awaiting internation departure.
The next update was Tuesday evening when I got an Arrived awaiting clearance, then Item processed at sorting facility
Yesterday (Wed) I got the Onboard for delivery notification (& then delivered).
Aliexpress is still telling me Your package arrived at local Facility.

        • Mine also just arrived, for anyone else concerned my Auspost tracking never actually updated after Aliexpress stated it was now at the local courier but it still arrived safely from the postie

  • Finally got mine after 40 days, but got my refund after 30 days. (Ordered from Computer Hardware Global Store on Nov 12)
Looked like pristine condition and the fps uplift is inline with my expectations.
