Toshiba AT270 7.67" Quad Core 16GB Tablet - $249 + $10 Postage (Wireless1, Parramatta NSW)

100

Hi Everyone,

The Toshiba AT270/002 is a Quad-Core Nvidia Tegra 3 tablet with a 7.67" Super AMOLED screen (Note the AT270 is Wifi only, not the AT275 which is 3G) Google around and you'll find some strong reviews for this tablet - almost all saying it trumps all others in the sub 10" size bracket e.g. Google Nexus 7, Samsung 7.7, Samsung 7.0 etc…

Some of its key specifications are: http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/tablet/at270/…
Screen Size: 7.67"
Resolution: 1280 x 800
Storage: eMMC 16GB
Webcam: 5.0M (Rear) 2.0M (Front) w/MIC
Sensors: Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, GPS, E-Compass
USB Ports: 1 x Micro USB Port
Bridge Media Adaptor: micro SD Card slot
Weight: 0.35kg Help
Battery: Up to 10.0 hours
Dimensions (W x D x H): 204.5mm x 135.2mm x 7.85mm

The downsides of this particular tab are
- lacklustre camera from reviews
- the low sound output from its inbuilt speakers (although output through headphone jack is fine)
- Toshiba's lack of support. This tablet runs ICS (although in the U.S. there was a recent OTA update to JB on the AT275 - which is the same as AT270 but with 3G). This tablet has been discontinued and apparently there will be a new model coming early next year.
- Stupidly large proprietary charging port (although serves as a connection to its dock available separately for purchase)
- Hardly any accessories available.

A similar deal was submitted by BCC computers - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86495 a short while back.
At the moment despite Toshiba's official RRP of $539:
http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=toshiba+at2…
StaticIce is showing $269 at Mobicity and $299 at JW computers.

I bought it earlier this evening in Parramatta. On the website of Wireless1 it does say "hurry less than 5" - not sure what happens to price/stock when they run out though.

Anyway for those people who do have the AT270 (or AT275):
(1) Has anyone managed to get a JB update recently?
(2) What case have you bought for this tablet? - link please if its a quality one.

  • Ppi?

Whats the battery life like, the toshiba at100 is atrocius!

    • 196ppi.

According to this review (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-AT270-101-Tablet…), they managed to get:
Idle (without WLAN, min brightness): 13h 28min
      Surfing with WLAN: 4h 55min
      Load (maximum brightness): 3h 56min

      • Yeah, battery life is lousy - I remember Slashgear reviewed the AT270 and despite having the same screen as the Galaxy Tab 7.7 they found the battery life to be almost exactly half.

    • the toshiba at100 is atrocius!

That's odd, a friend just bought an at100 from the EBGames sale & they're getting pretty decent battery life out of it…I'd say at least on par with the wife's TF101 with moderate 3G browsing & video/photo viewing.

  • Bummer… Mobiciti had these on offer recently for $245 + Free Shipping, which although I missed out on, set the benchmark for me. I also read that BCC were selling them in-store on Boxing day for $218. Curious about the price point and features of the expected new 7.7" model coming out early next year as well (following the recent release of the Excite 10 SE, which was cheaper than the original model).

  • I got one from bcc and love it. Only downside is trying to get a case or cover.

  • Commenting here so that I can find this post at a later date….trying to compile a list of heavily discounted tablets as research :)
