Not to say jokes about genocide were ever funny, but they're really stretching to make a funny joke and failing horribly.

For anyone going, do stop at Miyajima as well. Totally worth it!

100%, one of my favourite places in Japan

Agreed. I personally found Hiroshima to be a bit meh, while Miyajima was heaps of fun. I recommend staying a night there.

      • this is the way.

      • Agree. Stayed the night at Miyajima (can recommend Mizuhasou) and had a great time there. Hiroshima does have the atomic bomb memorial but the city just felt so boring/grey.

    • There's also a ferry from Hiroshima to Matsuyama, which has the famous Dogo onsen.

    • +1 Miyajima! Met some deer, made redbean cakes, ate BBQ'd Oysters, drank Miyajima beer and stayed the night. Perfect.

It's a shame they've decided to decrease checked baggage from 2 bags to 1 bag. I'll have to go to Japan Post to ship all the Don Quijote goodies back.

    • Granted an additional bag is 10,000 yen or $104 AUD give or take

      • Cheaper than Japan Post in terms of total baggage and any regional airline in Australia (usually). So it's not too bad.

    • Their usual econony discounted fares still include 2 x bags; these extra discounted fares don't unfortunately

      • extra luggage cost is how they make up for the discounted prices

        • And the inability to make any schedule changes. There must be a few people who end up not usingbthe ticket when circumstances change

    • @clear where do you get the boxes to ship back? I didn't think jap post sold big boxes

      • They sell big boxes and the largest is big enough for a lot of stuff.

        • Pikachu fits into the box!

          • @Flutterby: You can fit a dozen Pikachu's in the box easily in my experience. The plushies are good packing materials too.

        • Thanks! (was hoping for bigger… But guess we'll just split into smaller boxes)

          • @inamberclad: You can get your own bigger boxes elsewhere and take it there for a label.

I get huge boxes from Tokyu Hands and check them in, cheaper to buy extra luggage than ship

Why is this comment neged. You cannot change history. Rather than ignoring it, have the courage to accept the fact. That’s the least you can do for the people who are affected.

  • I cannot get the price to show anywhere near the price indicated. Probably me but I tried dates inside the range and outside.
*I did follow the how to tutorial

For Sydney to HIJ try 23/May return 6/Jun. Prices are $1055 return, which is reasonably close..

I cannot find anything lower than $1300 return for Perth departures.

Stopover is a stay at a transfer point en route to a destination for more than 24 hours.

Yeah, nah. Thats not a stopover, thats an international trip and a domestic jaunt.

If you are a cyclist (even if not), highly recommend cycling the Shimanami Kaido - a 70km cycle route that crosses 7 islands with dedicated cycleways on the major connecting bridges. The starting point is Onomichi which is 90mins from Hiroshima and you can hire a bicycle one way. The towns along the way offer amazing food and accommodation options so you can take as long as you like.

    • Ah… I smell youth… And mid life crisis too.

  • Can we fly from Perth to Hiroshima (via Tokyo stopover), then somehow depart from Tokyo instead of Hiroshima?

    • Yeah that's how these ANA free domestic flights work. Perth > Tokyo > Hiroshima and you'll return via Tokyo.

      • Cool, so on the way back Hiroshima > Tokyo, we can stopover for a few days, then Tokyo > Perth?

  • (profanity) I just booked Qantas… Can't even select seats without paying.
