  • Has anyone had experience with Institchu? They seem alright but not sure if its worth going there or somewhere else

    • Friend bought his wedding + groomsmen suits from there and said they were pretty average. Didn't go into much detail though.

    • There are lots of negative reviews floating around. A few positive but mostly negative about quality and timing

I've had experience with Institchu, and honestly, they're very average. No attention to detail, poor customer service, and the fit is always off the first time. Be prepared to go back multiple times for alterations. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

      • Any alternative recommendations?

        • Check out https://www.thefinerycompany.com.au/

The owner Joe Ha has been featured on SMH before

          • @[Deactivated]: Suits are 3.6k starting price. I would say they're in a totally different league. Instichu is doing 2 suits for 1.1k.

            • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: And you'd be right.

My understanding is that Joe Ha's suits are bespoke whereas Instichu suits are made to measure.

Another alternative is P. Johnson located in Paddington, which happens to be not far from Joe, https://pjt.com/pages/tailoring

But please note that I have not had personal experience with either of them so cannot say one way or another which is better.

    • I use Institchu for my shirts mostly but also have a couple suits. If you are looking for value-for-money and well-fitting suits then they are fine. You will likely need to go back and ask for alterations but that's not a deal breaker for me given the price. Perfectly fine for work clothes. If you are looking for something fancy, look elsewhere.

this screams cash flow issues…i would use it asap if you do buy it….

    • spot on and I still remember the Dick Smith gift card saga too!

    • They’ve done it a few times before

  • can i use my voucher to buy a voucher to buy a voucher?

    • Give it a go and let us know, but I would guess it should work

  • Got some shirts from them a few years back, just entered measurements online
Arm width measurement wasn’t what I was expecting and I ended up with double the bicep room (if only I could fill it out)
    Shirt quality was just standard
IIRC the price is much more expensive than other custom fit/made to measure options

They did have some good fabrics available however

  • Can you use the voucher to buy a custom wedding suit ?

  • I'm in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe, and own about 10 suits and equal number of odd trousers from them, to replace my mostly MJ Bale ensembles. Sure, the first couple of suits were a bit off and needed alterations but once you get the fit right I find they are pretty good, though not perfect. I have even received compliments from strangers on the suits.

I always go with premium fabric like S130/150 Zegna / Loro Piana / Drago, they're double the price of using standard fabric (~$1300 for one jacket + one pair of pants), but the end result is a lot better.

I recommend Patrick T. from their Clarence St showroom in Sydney, he'll look after you.

  • We bought Institchu shirts for our wedding (groomsmen shirts) and after receiving them decided the quality was not great and went out and bought some from M.J Bale as replacements which were much better (both in quality and fit, which was surprising since Institchu were tailored vs off the rack from MJ Bale). Found Institchu material wasn't comfortable to wear and didn't "breathe" well. Even after hand washing with a fabric softener the shirts look and feel very "starchy" and crease easily. We also ordered custom "tortoise shell" buttons to help them look less "businessy" but they stuffed the order and gave us the standard see-through plastic buttons which looked crap.

Having said that I work with a few younger guys who wear Institchu suits which look the goods and they are happy with them.

  • I'm tempted to get this but having second thoughts now because of other comments. Any suggestions other than InStitchu in WA for wedding suit?

  • If you want further proof that these guys are having cashflow issues…

Just got an email from them saying that if I pay a 50% deposit by the end of the month on my wedding suit quote (did this last year to gauge prices), I get an additional 35% off rather than the advertised 25% off.
