It qualify for Acer cashback of $99 so its $386 plus u get a bonus extra 4Gig Crucial Ram(valued by goodguys @$79, rubbish price but free is free, unless u want to pay extra $49 for installation) that will bring the total ram to 8 Gig.

Why i like this laptop:
1) Win7 64bit premium. (Save me the hassle of having to downgrade from 8)

  • Can you post all specs? Looks good, an i3 under $400!

  • Intel i3-3110M
    15.6" Display
    Win 7 Premium 64bit
    500G hdd
    6 Cell Lit-ion Battery
4G Ram + 4G free (self install though)

    • I wonder if self installed voids the warranty with good guys, anyone know?

      • +1

they cant deny warranty if you install your own ram unless the ram somehow damages the system

  • good deal :)

  • How do you get bonus 4Gb RAM?

    • Goodguys promotion, look closely at the current catalog last page!

      • Anyone got a direct link to the catalogue? I can't seem to access it. Cheers

        • Refer to Spackbace link below

  • What about wifi, speakers, mic etc? I might grab one myself.

I think this is the right product spec page link - http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2012/Acer/Aspire/…

  • +1

Hmm, does it not have usb3?

    • Input and output Multi-in-1 card reader (SD™, MMC, MS PRO, xD)
      Three USB 2.0 ports
      HDMI® port with HDCP support
      External display (VGA) port
Headphone/speaker jack, supporting 3.5 mm headset with built-in microphone for Acer smart handhelds
      Microphone-in jack
      Ethernet (RJ-45) port
      DC-in jack for AC adapter

    • First thing I noticed too, still tempting

I think before buying anything from Acer it would be wise to ask around about their customer service… IMHO they have the worst customer service - I am comparing my experience to Toshiba and Samsung

    • +1

this may be true… but its a $400 laptop

just hope it lasts the warranty period with no issue and then afterwards treat it as disposable

    • yes
1 year of poor PC service
      they never take calls
      then never understand emails
      never fix problems
      never accept responsibility for problems
fixed unwillingly after complaint to fair trading.
without a CD for my data - it was lost.

website says 494 as advertised. Am I doing anything wrong?

    • Price now includes an 'OzB Premium'!!!!

    • +3

Ask the sales nicely for best cash price… he gave me $9 off… $9 is still better than ZERO.. can buy me 9X thick shake at Hungry Jack…LOL

      • sir, you are a true ozbargainer.

        • +2

Thank you. I try my best.

You have the right to ask for a discount. You have the right Not to buy. You also have the right to remain silent. Anything you say could land u a discount however small. But if you choose to remain silent, you will be charged the ticketed price and feel the sorrow of all the ozbaraginers for the lost opportunity in making a good deal even better!

        • +3

Did you try haggling down the thick shake prices too?

      • I hate their 'Pay Less, Pay Cash' motto… the discount is almost always insignificant (IME, anyway) compared to the price of the product.

Of course, $9 off is better than paying full price, but $9 wouldn't compensate for the paranoia induced by withdrawing $500 from an ATM and walking to the shop with it ;-) Their motto ought to be "Pay Ever So Slightly Less, Pay Cash"

        • +2

Nah, i use EFTPOS… good as cash!

        • +3

          Well now I feel stupid

        • They're usually not bothered by credit cards either, I've negotiated some pretty good deals from them and pay with credit card…

        • I think the motto is just to get you all excited…

      • Could also buy several thousand calories. Hehe.

  • Make sure you send you acer cash back immediately. You only get 14 days to mail them your cash back form.
Acer cash back is the worst. Most other company let you submit your cash back online with no hassle. With acer if you cash back somehow got lost in the mail, you get no cash back.

    • -1

Acer seems to have very very high mail loss on their incoming mail though… almost like the bermuda triangle

they should probably complain to Aust Post about that!

  • +2

As someone mentioned before use registered post for Acer cash backs!!

    • otherwise, acer just simply put your cash back to the bin and said "we never received it"!

  • Integrated Graphics?

    • +1

Other variants at Dick Smith and JB have integrated graphics, so I assume this one would too.

    • +1

Yup, Intel 4000. I heard 3rd generation IVY bridge has pretty powerful integrated graphics comparable to low-mid level discrete graphics card. Also, 3rd gen is power-saving as well…. should decode all vids smoothly. You dun buy this laptop for games anyway.

      • +1

Thanks!, A notice for anyone was planning on using this for any type of gaming is a bad idea except maybe small flash games.

      • hd4000 is fine for non game play which shouldnt be an expectation for a $400 laptop

        • Exactly, thats why i pick this among all the choices… relatively powerful with plenty memory!

  • how does a 3rd gen i3 measure up to a 1st gen i5?

    • There isn't a huge performance gap (in benchmarks at least - note: I just picked some random models). They both have their (relative) strong points, and I doubt you'd notice a difference.

      • Yep, the i3-3110 is surrounded by first gen i5s on notebookcheck. The difference is the integrated GPU, Crysis should be playable on the integrated 3rd gen GPU, and Video encoding should even be faster than a discrete GPU thanks to "Quick Sync". On the other hand, I recall that i3s tend not to be so good at running virtual machines (if you don't know what this is, you don't need it).

  • "pay less, pay cash" price is $485 on their instore system !. going to officeworks @ opening 2morrow, as they stock the same and will 5% beat, or if ur really tight, tell good guys, and they should beat that again !. worked in the past for me.

    • +2

But u will get Win8 and no 4 Gb bonus ram for 5% of $498 = $24.7… i rather have 7 and the bonus ram for that $… even less after taking off the $9 discount Goodguys gave me…

      • +1

what is wrong with window 8

        • +1

Each to his/her own… i just prefer 7. I dun like 8 interface… even the mighty Apple did not try to force iOS on down Mac computer user's throat…

        • They are generally way more annoying than Windows especially when it comes to getting your files off iPhone/iPad or putting your own applications on them. Thus the reason Android got so popular

ROFL, what a rip, 4GB RAM is $21 at MSY, what a rip off company. Isn't worth more than $399. And 15.6" is not easy on the eyes. My Dell U2412 is, full 24", not some rubbish TN laptop screen.

    • +3

What you said is absolutely true… U2412 looks better than this laptop and probably more expensive too after taking the cashback into consideration…

unfortunately i can't go online with just the monitor

i logged on just to neg this comment

  • I grabbed one of these from Cranbourne GG earlier in the week and it had the extra 4g already installed by one of there "tech gurus". Got it home and it wouldn't boot at all much to my amazement. I summised that it was prob dud install of ram or dead stick so i took it back and after trying 8 different sticks they arrived at the conclusion that the 2nd ram slot was doa so gave me another laptop and all is well.
For the money after cashback it is a good deal i think. Speakers are absolute shite but apart from that all seems to be cool. $49 to install the ram is also an absolute lash considering it takes all of 2 minutes and they don't even boot up after install to check their work!!!

  • Thanks for tip as I am collecting mine tomorrow from Brighton and will check in the store before leaving that PC powers up.

nothing has come close to the $600 samsung that i got from jb from 3 months ago, 3rd gen i7, 1gb amd 7670, 4gb ram 750gb hdd, 15.6", best bang for buck laptop to date.

    • Any link of this jb deal?

  • Thank you got one form the good guys.

  • Great deal. Picked up one as well.

  • Bought one yesterday, and self-installed the RAM myself today. It's pretty easy (even for someone like me who's a first-time laptop owner); just remove the 2 screws on the memory access door, and slot the new RAM into the additional slot. Remove the battery if you've already got it in. Watch some Youtube videos if you want extra advice. Definitely would not pay the $49 to get it installed! Thanks for posting the deal, OP!

  • Bought one at gg Artarmon. They didn't mention the bonus memory, so thank you to the OP. :)

Warranty already voided with Ubuntu 12.10 running beautifully on it without any tinkering.

Nice laptop for the money. Cheers.
