FYI I bought two during the last sale maybe a month ago and they sent me expired sims. I had to contact their support and they sorted it out with a refund + $2 sim (that I buy) + new activation, however this means I might not get the cashrewards saving (~$40).

Will update when I know more (Cashrewards says pending till May)

    • +1

Wouldn't this be from buying directly from boost rather than deal at CellPoint? If I can get CR discount as well on top of this desk it would be good.

      • +1

        There's no Cashrewards from CellPoint.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm on Boost now, I need to port out to a different provider and then I'm able to port back in on this offer? This could all be done within 48hrs basically?

    • +1

      yep

      • +3

If everything goes smoothly you can be ported out and back in within an hour or 2 even.

        • What's the cheapest way to port out?

          • @trafgals: The cheapest way, is to find the cheapest non-Telstra SIM to go to.

So, whatever SIM card deal you can get, with Lebara / Vodafone or Amaysim / Optus.

          • +1

            @trafgals: Aldi $5sim pack

          • +2

@trafgals: Cheapest way is Telstra prepaid $2 SIM, just did this. Took less than 20 mins to port out and back again.

          • +4

            @trafgals: https://freesimcards.com.au/

Takes about a week to receive the sim but can't beat free.

Have used a free optus sim previously to port out and back into boost, but should be the same for any other provider I'd imagine.

I’ve been with Boost for a few years now, and I usually recharge using the starter SIM through the chat. However, it didn’t work yesterday. So, I called Boost customer care and explained that I had the $230 Boost starter SIM and wanted to recharge with it. The representative asked for the new SIM number, explained the process to me, and within 10 minutes, my new SIM was activated with bonus data. If this hadn’t worked, I could have tried the port-out and port-in process, as suggested by @LeftHandSeat. Hope this helps.

      • +1

I'm onto my 4th recharge (4th year) using a starter SIM. Never ported out, just contact customer support, tell them I want to recharge with a starter SIM and they do it for me.

  • Thanks OP

Thanks for posting this, to clarify "Sim activation expiry date will range from Sep / Oct 2025 upto March 2026." I can buy the sim today but will have until Sept 2025 to activate?

is it just me or does boost coverage and signal sucks sometimes?

    • Not just you. Ever since being with boost the reception has been absolute garbage for me. I wish I could get a refund.

      • Can you not complain and get a pro rata refund?

    • Yeah i do also notice a small pocket of area but other than that, its pretty reliable. Much better than how vodafone and optus works in areas like big shopping centre or populated areas

    • +2

For years I used Boost but recently moved to a budget TPG plan, I mostly get the same coverage from work to home. I realised that now I value the savings more than the extra coverage that Telstra network provides.

    • +1

Boost signal for me has dropped slightly, but it is still so much better than Vodafone and Optus.

( I have used the others, in the last 6 months, in city areas and regional areas too )

      • Where I am vodafone is much faster/better than Telstra/boost.

        It's not a signal issue, it's capacity.

My partner is with Telstra and we've done speed tests as we're going around the place and voda almost always wins.

I was with boost for a long time, but was becoming very unhappy with the speed so I decided to do some investigation into it.

At my work (very busy area - indoor so the building has its own towers), I was regularly getting 0.5mbit (not a typo!) even with full 5 bars signal - I get 62mbit with voda now.

I believe it's because everyone is with Telstra so the towers are overloaded.

        • The last time I was with Vodafone was more than 5 years ago and my download speed during peak hours varied between 1.5 - 4 Mbps

Compare this to boost, where I get 90-150 Mbps.

          So boost hands down.

100%, not sure what happened but lately its horrendous. Cant wait for my yearly sim to expire to move on.

      • I’ve seen lots of similar complaints since they were officially bought out by Telstra in December..

    • +1

Boost is poor for me after years of awesomeness. I'm moving to Optus

    • Yeah I’m moving on too, get 5 bars of signal and it still hangs in some areas

    • It's the worst in metro. There are some blacks pots which i run into around particular stations.

    • yup totally sucks for me as well, especially in a supermarket, or any place with more than 10 ppl, the 4g is barely useable

  • Anyway to request a 2026 expirey sim?

  • Does Boost offer the full Telstra 5G network?

    • Yez

    • Yes

    • +1

      Yes but speed limited.

    • +2

In theory, but I am getting better performance on Woolies wholesale network so something is wacked with Boost.

  • ordered one

  • Has anyone tried price match officeworks

    • +1

They have at every other store ibve price beat this in the past so no reason they wont do this one. Sim cards are not listed as an exclusion on their website

    • Wouldn't you just get 265gb instead of 290gb then?

    • Underwood QLD Officeworks wouldn't do it for me. They said they don't offer price match on sim cards. I will try another store.

  • +1

    It says valid until 10/3/25

Does it need to be activated by tommorow?

  • Does aldi still do $5 Sims?

    • +2

Just buy a $2 Telstra Sim for WW. I just ported from boost to Telstra using one of these, there is the option not to recharge the Sim when signing up.

Then port back to boost. I did this yesterday all within the hour

      • Did you lose your voicemail settings (recorded message etc)? If porting to telstra and back thinking you might get to keep it?

        • +1

No idea, I don't keep recordings or generally use voicemail.

  • +2

Should it say 290GB promotion from March 11? There is no mention about the 290GB on the boost link and it is past Feb 11..

    • Hi there, the description has been updated accordingly. Thank you.

  • I ported out to Woolies Everyday, which is wholesale Telstra. Strangely I get better signal at home, and I also get a long ring time - another irritating thing about Boost is the phone rings for about 10s then goes to voicemail no matter what settings I use including 61101*. I can't say what the coverage comparison is, but I get the feeling Telstra are making Boost suck more and more intentionally. I bought one of these from Lucky Mobile but now I'm wishing I didn't.

    • -2

that short ringing thing is an absolute pain. I don't even have time to put down my beer and get it out my pocket while driving.

      • Hi @ Hotphil, If you are experiencing shorter ringing time then please try these steps:
        1. Dial ##002#
        2. Wait for the erasure message to pop-up.
        3. Press Dismiss
        4. Restart your device

Your phone should not ring to its maximum. Thank you.

        • Just tried this (I'm with Boost). No change. From caller's end: 5 rings, from receiving end: 2 rings. Before and after doing the above.

  • +3

any thoughts on what options I have after my boost 170gb plan is ending now its no longer offered ? I actually don't even use that much, I usually only hit around 100-120GB for the year as I'm mostly on wifi..

    • I'm in the same boat and keen to explore other options.

  • Maybe an unpopular opinion but ever since the Vodafone x Optus tower sharing, I've consistently noticed better phone reception pretty much all areas within 2 hour radius of the city not with Telstra (Boost)
Is it really still worth spending for the 'Telstra' tax?

I was originally with Boost before all the price hikes, then decided to port away
I run dual SIM, now on my personal the Vodaphone network (wholesale) and the work SIM on Telstra (Full network). Both show signal side by side and my Vodafone SIM always seems to be coming out ahead… but just my experiences either way

  • I still think the Kogan mobile deal I took out a few months ago
    – 120Gb 365 days for $99
    is better.

But I'm not a very heavy user.

The mobile is a backup for my landline phone.

  • Will this come back into stock?

    • We have added the last batch of 45 units of the discounted sims. Unfortunately we wont have stock for sometime after this allocation is exhausted. Thank you

    • Hi Skurfer, Have added 70 more in stock and it is available now to order. Thank you.

  • Hey Rep, got any more stock?

    • Hi @ Concento. We have added the last batch of 45 units of the discounted sims. Unfortunately we wont have stock for sometime after this allocation is exhausted. Thank you.

      • Any updates on when you'll get any more ?

  • I'm with Telstra now, does anyone know if i can port directly to boost?

      • Bit confused as you mentioned Telstra postpaid twice!

        • Hi Mikeryan, If you are with Telstra postpaid you can port directly however if you are with Telstra prepaid you need to chat / talk with Boost to get your number ported over. Thank you.

          • @cellpoint: Is it the other way around? I've been reading people can port in/out of their existing boost prepaid using a $2 telstra sim quite seamlessly.

  • Hi OP, just wondering do you do same discount in WA Mirrabooka store?

    • they do, i made my order online and hopefully picking up this afternoon at their mirrabooka store (they mentioned their cards are coming in this afternoon)

  • Cheers OP. Just ordered one with showing 28 in stock.

  • Is this likely to come back into stock?

    • Hi Jacob. Have added 70 more in stock and it is available now to order. Thank you.

  • This SIM will not activate by yourself. I called up Boost and they said that the SIM card is faulty and that I have to get a new $2 Boost Sim. So I did and they activate that, and gave me a $300 recharge and told me to through away this SIM card.

  • ALL GOOD,FAST DELIVERY.
