  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD

Proxmox/Linux would be the better OS choice for these mini PCs. if you want to run Windows, I'd at least get a 10th gen I5 or equivalent.

      • +5

Intel N100 with 16GB RAM and SSD is perfectly fine for Windows 11 Pro. Unless you're treating it like an AAA gaming PC then duh.

    • +2

      It's not that slow. It's not a 486

    • +4

sigh.. I've been using an n100 with 12GB RAM for well over a year now as my daily email, youtube (1440p), web browsing and usenet/torrenting pc. the only time there's a slowdown is when a 30+GB file is PAR2 parity checked and then unpacked. Slowdown as in it doesn't interrupt youtube video playback but slowdown that it is noticeable if I'm moving files from the onboard NVME to the NAS at the same time.

    • I have a N100 running Windows 11 Pro as a Plex server.

Prior to deciding to run it as a Plex server I was going to give it to an uncle to replace his Windows 10 machine, running a first gen i5 750, and tested it for a week for normal tasks (browsing, YouTube, simple in browser games etc).

Even with the single channel RAM limitation, it was perfectly capable for every day tasks, and only hit high temps when it was installing successive Windows updates.
Sure, it's not as powerful or responsive as standard desktop CPU configurations, but you would only notice if you are directly comparing systems.

      • why would you use windows 11 as a server os, seriously wtf

        • while I do think if you're going to use it as a plex / jellyfin server then you should install some variant of linux on it, but I do understand that not everyone can do that it does come with windows 11 installed, so it was probably easier for them to stick with an O/S they know.

        • why would you use windows 11 as a server os

Because it runs the Windows apps that you want to run ?

          What a strange question.

If you disable the default sleep settings, Windows 11 will happily chug along with no issue, at least until you need to Restart on the next Patch Tuesday.

        • Because it came free with Windows 11? I also don't know how to use Linux, nor have the time to learn right now.
What exactly am I missing out on?

There's also this SOYO M4 PRO (Intel N150, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Win 11 Pro), similar specs to this, but also comes with 2x USB-C. It's now US$110.28 after applying same coupon (US$12/AU$20 off US$89). https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008318932261.html

  • Does it make sense to pay extra for Beelink or these devices are all the same in terms of quality and support?

    • Beelink are usually quite good for quality. Really it just comes down to what features and price point you're after. Soyo for example is the same company as Maxsun who currently sell a lot of motherboards in Australia right now.

    • I bought a beelink with the same stats and while I'm happy with it, I wonder if it'd just be the same if I got something $50 cheaper like this .

I run headless Linux on mine, I don't push mine hard.

    • I bought Beelink EQ14 through Amazon and it arrived last week. Used it for 2 days (Friday and Monday wfh) and on Monday, it made a loud popping sound and died. It won't turn back on.

I contacted Beelink through Amazon and they are happy for me to return it.

Overall experience with Beelink email support and Amazon has been good. It's a shame that the machine died like that just after two days office work.

  • i kinda regret getting this, it's a bit slow? uses 2666hz ddr4. you can get ddr5 ones which are faster i think.

    • It all depends on what you're doing. If the RAM is overclocked to 3200MHz or you install a better stick of RAM you may only see a 5-10% difference compared to LPDDR5 4800MHz.

      • from benchmark I found it's even less than that - we're talking single digit differnces with geekbench. The CPU is the real bottleneck if you want to do 3D rendering of whatever. https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/comments/15lfv2p/n100_ddr5_…

        • It's always a worry when people think the Intel Nxxx series is some wonder CPU that'll do everything extremely fast. Why does Cyberpunk 2077 lag at 4K

  • +1

    Soggy soyo?

  • Does this have a microSD card slot? Some Youtube videos show it having one on the side, while others show it without.

    • +1

There are two models - M2 Plus and M2 Plus 2. This is the latter and no microSD card slot.

  • Eligible for cashback when using coupon codes (OZAU20/AUAS20)?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

Past experience is that using coupons or coins does not invalidate cashback

  • Can anyone advise, would a touch-screen portable monitor be suitable for console access on one of these mini pcs running Linux, and similarly for console access on Raspberry Pi?
    Eg https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007092006430.html

    • should work as long as you have the drivers for the touch screen - this video shows a mini pc connected via usb c to a portable screen and the entire thing running from a power bank - https://youtu.be/c7mgrF-KfPo?t=645

  • anything with dual nic for pfsense?

    • various models of n100 mni pcs have dual NICs - I bought one from amazon recently (pricing error) for about $150 which was the newer n150 CPU and has dual NICs - I'll be using it for proxmox and installing opnsense and home assistant on it, (when I have the time).

      • does these soyo ones offer dual nic? or would you choose gmktec?

        • it's your choice and you have the internet at your fingertips. I chose gmkec because it was on sale at the time and it had dual NICs, which is what I wanted for my proxmox/opnsense/home assistant box I was planning on setting up.

        • Interestingly, the Soyo product description includes a Verification of Conformity certificate with Trademark=Gmktec

          • @BigBirdy: as with most things Chinese.. there is one actual manufacturer who produces stuff for lots of different brands/badges.

  • Can this take a 2.5" SATA drive?

    • +1

no, it has no internal SATA ports. Other models do though - I have a Kamrui minipc which I bought last year which has an internal bay for a 2.5" SATA drive (was planning on installing batocera and running emulation on it).

      • Thanks for that, I'm looking to do the same for some retro gaming :)

    • Beelink & Trigkey both have models taking 2.5” Sata drive. I think the AK (eg Kamrui) mini pcs also take a 2.5”. I’ve got a Trigkey Speed S5 with both M2 & 2.5” drives.

    • For 2.5" hard drive / SSD get this. https://www.amazon.com.au/WAVLINK-Adapter-Support-Converter-…

For 3.5" Hard drive, get the powered version for slightly more.

      • Thanks, but I have a few external drive bays and adaptors already. I'm just after a neat little package to mount to the back of the tv or tucked away behind the tv console.

  • +2

literally the first google hit for this device - https://goughlui.com/2024/12/22/review-soyo-mini-pc-m2-plus2…

    • This is so well-written, thank you!!
