Best Ongoing Credit Card for Points ie. Not Churning It

Hey all,

Wondering if any credit card guru can point me in the direction for the best credit card that gives loyalty points/veloicty/ff/whatever for ongoing use? I can't be bothered churning/have churned a lot already, so just looking for one to put some everyday purchases and subscriptions on. Plenty of resources out there but mostly seem to be focused on churning side, not rewarded for ongoing.

TIA

    1) HSBC Everyday Global for 2% cashback (instant) for tap purchases. $0 fees
    2) Amex Explorer for 1% cashback (redeemable) on all non-tap domestic purchases and best travel insurance. $395 fee offset with $400 travel credit

    Then:
    - if you don't make many international purchases, just use HSBC Everyday Global for them (both online and ATM withdrawals);
    - otherwise if you do heaps of international purchases, then look into something that will reward you like NAB Rewards Signature which comes with a monthly fee that can be refunded but you need to factor into your calcs

Don't forget to mention the Everyday Global has a cap of $50 per month in cashback

No company cares about loyalty, let alone being rewarded for ongoing. CBA Ultimate Awards is probably your best bet if you can do $4000/mo. Smart Awards is less nicer but only like $2000/mo IIRC. The points earning is quite poor but it's a decent all-in-one card (travel insurance, zero intl txn fee, points, free if you meet criteria). I have Coles Mastercard, which is alright, has a better earn rate and low annual fee but has 3% international transaction fee which I don't like.

CBA Ultimate is a great card for VA points, especially if you’re using it for FX spend a lot

        You mean QF points, yeah?

1 Velocity is 2 CBA awards points. No account fee needed like with qff

Nope, VA. Works out a 0.5 for regular spend, 1 for supermarkets, dining, utilities, etc and 1.5 for FX.
Combine that with the semi regular 15-20% transfer bonus and you're set

  • If you don't value the points, you're better off with a no annual fee card like Bendigo Ready.

When will this bank enter the 21st century. To make any change (add a card holder, set up direct debit, etc) you got to visit a branch.

  • High spender? Spend more than $2-3k per month? Shoot for something like Westpac Black, ANZ Black or NAB Signature. The extra points earned can outweigh the higher annual fee.

Otherwise, something like the AmEx Platinum Edge ($195AF, $200 travel credit, 3x points at supermarkets & bowsers) or AmEx Explorer ($395 AF, $400 travel credit, 2x points for non-government spends) are great.

  • Check out the HSBC Platinum Qantas Credit Card.
    * $399 fee waived off the first year.
    * Earn 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases in the first year.
    * After the first 12 months from account opening, you will earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases.
    * Qantas Points will no longer accrue when the total value of your eligible purchases reaches $120,000 in each 12-month period.

Benefits over big 4 banks black cards:
    * Higher points earning rate, at least for first year.
    * Unlike other banks which have monthly spend limit for higher points (e.g., ANZ black has $7.5K monthly limit for highest earning rate), HSBC gives you 12 month $120K spend accumulation. Good if you're a high spender & have some peak expenditure months.

    Negatives:
    * No sign up qantas bonus points other than annual fee waiver.

    Happy researching
