      It's been very poorly organized in recent years, and crazy expensive. There's events all week all pubs and breweries which are a far better experience.

      Saturday: 11:00am – 4:30pm

    Went last year, did not like it.
    - You drink beer in a massive hangar when it was a nice day out, not much room to go outside, only the tarmac with loos.
    - Most beers are on a very hoppy side of the spectrum, which is not my thing.
    - There are no free beers with the ticket, only plastic beer tasting glass which is cool for camping. Live music was ok.

      Last years’s venue at the racecourse was definitely the worst of the last few years. The bathroom situation alone was awful.

      However this year it’s in MCEC, which is a much better location. But yeah no free beers, so it’s an expensive day out, hence the free tickets. The discount booklet they gave out at the venue last year though, I used quite a few of the coupons. Probably saved $80ish over time with it.

      Tickets were going cheap for ages on Promotix / On the House, but I guess even that wasn’t enough.

    Went to one of the 1st GABS when it was at Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.
    Found it way overpriced to pay for entry and then it was quite expensive for the samples of beer.
    And food prices were even worse.

    Decided to volunteer a few years later.
    Much better experience as you got to sample the beers you were pouring, got a food voucher to use on a break, and got free entry to another session, and a free volunteer t-shirt.

    Now, back to just attending.
    Yes, while entry is free, you are not forced to buy anything.
    There should be some free samples around but not much.
    Free samples are a curse.
    I went to the Food & Wine Show Christmas market on a cheap ticket and ended up spending well over $500 on products.

    TL:DR- You're not forced to buy anything with your free ticket but there will be quite a few unique beer offerings that have been created for the event as one-offs. Just set a budget and stick to it.

    I had locked in 6 tickets for Saturday arvo sesh for a group of mates, although since realising through some comments in this deal that there aren't any free drinks included. Looks like it's the same as Food and Wine festival from days back.

    If anyone wants these tickets (Saturday arvo session - Session 2 starting 11am), please reply to this post and I'll dm you the tickets. First in first serve!

    Reporting back. Just left.
    $20 for a bratwurst but was good quality.
    $14 for tasting plate of 5 X 100ml beers and cocktails. Was tasty. You choose from 100+ varieties.
    $7 or so to fill your plastic glass they give you on entry. Beers from many stands.
    Music etc all round.

      Or is the plastic cup you get upon entry, allows you to fill up beers from many stands at $7 a pop?
