Bellroy Tokyo Work Bag (Deep Plum) $169.00, Bellroy Tokyo Laptop Bag (Wild Plum) $129.00 Delivered @ Milligram

490

Great sale for two shoulder bags from down under. I have the Tokyo Work Bag and I can attest that this is the bag to buy if you want a shoulder bag that is more substantial than your tiny laptop bag, but not as huge as a duffel. Comes in a decent 20L capacity with a semi-external water bottle pocket. If you do want a tiny laptop bag, the Tokyo Laptop Bag (6L capacity) is also on sale for $129.00 here: https://milligram.com/products/tokyo-laptop-bag-6l-wild-plum…

Same price at bellroy, part of their outlet sale.

Probably cheaper at Rushfaster with the BELL code as well.

Down to 143 with studentbeans on bellroy.

Do note that that's for the 6L laptop bag, not the 20L work bag. The 6L laptop bag from Milligram/Belroy is cheaper at $129.

Edit: the 6L, $129 laptop bag from Milligram / Belroy is for 14 inch laptops while the link you posted is for 16 inch laptops, which is available in Belroy's website for the same price.

I genuinely just picked up one of these from Bellroy via student beans. Also got cashback through TopCashBack at 9% which brought the Work Bag down to ~$130.

I will mote that the Laptop bag - which I was initially considering - is very limited in terms of storage, and IMO, a bit poorly designed.

Got a green-y laptop bag. Feels a bit cheap tbh vs the pics; does a job for a laptop and a pad but would have still felt robbed at $69 never mind $129.

  • oooh wish i saw this one. got the tokyo compact and love it but wish it had a long strap on it.

wish it had a long strap on

      ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

lol why does ozbargain always like to post Bellroy deals? They're not a bargain

    • +8

At the very least its an Australian brand.

      • +2

At the very least its an Australian brand.

        Country of origin: Philippines

Lol, so much for an "Australian" brand.

Manufacturing at Filipino wages and charging any fool who would buy one Australian price.

I would either buy something that's actually made in Australia or just get one made China because that will be much better quality, fit and finish at this price point.

        • Its scraping the bottom of the barrel yes but you're not going to find anything produced here for the techies

          • +1

@ATangk: A lot is produced here especially by small businesses. I've some very high quality leather goods from mccaul for example.

Here's a bag for instance. Made in Australia with quality ingredients, rightfully sold at Australian price: https://www.therealmccaul.com/products/jack-satchel-kangaroo…

            • @CocaKoala: That link of yours direct to a 400+ plus bag!

              • @SabreTooth23: Nah yeah, mate. It's not made in the Philippines with recycled plastic waste like the bag on this deal.

It's hand made locally from locally sourced and tanned leather and is a quality product with 10 years warranty. I reckon the price is about right if that's what you want.

                • +1

@CocaKoala: For Kangaroo leather and YKK zips? It's a fantastic price. It will last forever unless the stitching fails.

Meanwhile pleather/plastic bags will start peeling in a couple of years, then you throw it away and buy another.

            • @CocaKoala: Can find one like that for like $20 at my local Vinnie's

Bellroy isn't even a well regarded brand on r/manybaggers, and those people are oddly obsessed with bags

      • +2

I didn’t know this was a subreddit and I’m not going to go into it as that’ll be dangerous for my wallet.
However, agreed that Bellroy has gone downhill with quality. They used to be really good but newer QC isn’t great

    • Are you able to suggest some better brands?

  • +5

That's quite expensive for a bag. I thought we were a bunch of stingy blokes. Whos buying these?

    • -3

You ever heard the saying "the poor man pays twice".

      • Thrice in Australia with three levels of "That's a nice Bellroy. Let me look on the inside and see if I can find something for the submarines."

      • +1

Would be good if this was true, but Bellroy skimps out on materials and has bad QC. I've bought a couple of bags from them in the past and some of the stitching isn't great, so they fall apart much quicker and makes paying for such an expensive bag icky. Their post-purchase customer service isn't the best either.

      • Something being expensive doesn't automatically make it good.

ha ha we need a vote/statistics on how many houses or properties an everage ozbargainer has? I have 3 ….

      • Must be a pain with the upkeep of 3 homes. Not sure why you would need three places to live tho.

        • I imagine 2 would be his investment.

    • Not me, using a $15 one i got from Ozbargain last year.

  • +10

Have had a bellroy bag for 3 years now. Use it daily as well as taking it on overseas trips. Still in the same condition as day 1 - love it.

  • -4

Why would I spend $169 on this when I can just carry a garbage bag around?

  • -6

It takes quite the effort to convince me to buy a $100+ bag made mostly out of recycled fabric, and I'm not sure this is it.

    • +8

No one is trying to convince you at all. More for others who see the value in products from these brands.

    • Hilarious.

    • +1

I use this to hold my plumbus.

    • I need one for those townhall type meetings.

  • great bag, i use to have one. stop using because i have now switched to a leather one

    • Do you have a recommendation for a leather one?

  • i don't really have a recommendation, but I bought a tumi briefcase. buy once cry once, lol.

  • +1

Pricematched on Amazon, for those who have a gift card balance and/or want cashback (I assume the 6% luggage cashback applies).

    • Delivery 4 -7 April if I want the plum at $169 from Amazon. But for $279 I can get the black or the slate delivered on Sunday lol. Yeah I can wait.

  • I’d totally rock this bag on my commute, feeling like a salaryman in Tokyo. But honestly, I’m just too used to slinging a bag over my shoulder; it leaves my hands free for stuff!

    • It has a shoulder strap though. Be free and live your salaryman dreams

    • +2

You don't want to be a salaryman in Tokyo.

  • Anyone have any experience with the Greenwood leather or Vintage leather bags, since the Bellroy quality seems questionable these days? Both seen to come from the same factory in India.

    https://www.greenwoodleather.com.au/collections/leather-lapt…

    https://www.vintageleather.com.au/collections/work-bag

    • Yeah mate, last year Bought a big leather duffle from vintage leather. It's solid, less shapely than the images, which is understandable I suppose since leather sags when empty.

It's actually quite thick leather. Doesn't stink. And heavier than I expected - hopefully the weight would t be as much as issue if smaller bag.
But delivery wasnt too long, happy enough with quality, especially since it's was around $200, not all the fashion/RM brands of leather Duffles at 600-900

They always seem to have the 10% sale and some crappy leather key ring in a 'gift box' - which did accelerate my purchase so guess I fell for it but yeah quality good
      But quite heavy.

      • Thanks mate, I appreciate the feedback. That was through Vintage Leather, yeah?

From what I've read online their leather jackets have some sizing issues and their customer service and returns process seem pretty poor, but hopefully it's not an issue for a bag.

    Expensive, middling quality, and unfashionable.
