Dont over think it. Get a waterproof bag from Kmart or Big W and use that for the towel and bathers. Carry the other stuff in whatever little (or not so little) backpack you normally use.

Has OP considered getting out of the house and "going shopping" at the local shopping centre for the right bag?

  • The one that Bunnings was selling a couple of months ago was decent. Is large enough to hold 2 towels and a couple of sets of swim wear

  • Corby bag range has room for all that and much more

  • For swim bag, I use an old travel duffle bag. The zip was torn etc, so no longer suitable for travel.

    It's good because:

    1. can also put the adult swim stuff in it, in case adult wants to go swimming
    2. if got multiple kids, each kid can have their own small bag. Then all their small bags can go into the duffle bag, so only one adult is carrying a bag, and there's much less chance of losing things.
    3. there'r outside small pockets to quickly shove things in: clean undies, swipe card, car keys/wallet etc
    4. when the kids grow, their towels take up a lot of space.
    5. it's a very familiar bag that we've used for years, so I know where all the little pockets are. It carries well over the shoulder. Etc.
    6. when kids go to classes, they sometimes are asked to bring flippers.
    7. can bring sinkies etc toys.

The important thing is to have good wet bags. I use a different brand, but Kmart advertises $6 ones:

  • Just get a small duffle bag - you can find cheap ones at Kmart / Target and the like.

Otherwise, if you're after something that's a little better made, you can try Strandbags, or one of those stores. The sports style duffle bags are also decent for this purpose - they do look a bit gaudy with the Nike / Adidas / Puma…etc. logos on them, but they're usually decently well made and fit the bill nicely.

I would personally avoid anything that's marketed towards babies - they're almost always overpriced for what you're getting.

  • Get a small backpack for every day baby stuff and for swimming just bring along a shopping bag

  • A few of these work

  • Shupatto bags - light as anything, flexible and washable. Folds down to tiny when not in use and can expand a lot. But they do not have compartments. You could grab a couple.

  • No joke…the wider version of these make awesome swim and beach bags - waterproof, long and short handles, they stand up, making them easy to fill, and have the right capacity. Chuck a nappy roll in it to hold all the baby stuff and give you somewhere clean to change on. The narrower ones (like the one in the listing) are great when the kids get older and you can assign them a single swim bag each.

  • It's out of stock, but we've been using this bag for swimming lessons and beach trips for the past year and a half. There's plenty of little pockets and it easily fits towels. The shoulder straps are long and wide enough that it's comfortable to wear over your shoulder too. The bottom is waterproof so you can put it on the wet ground and your stuff doesn't get wet, and it's got mesh at the top so it doesn't become musty between uses. I'd definitely recommend something similar. Grab some of the cheap waterproof bags for wet bathers from Kmart and you're set.

As for a nappy bag. I've been using a leather Bambino Bags backpack for two and a half years. They come on sale often. It is comfy to wear, and easily fits everything you need: nappies and a change of clothes for the toddler and newborn, plus a lunchbox, change mat, water bottle, and sunscreen/bug spray etc. Though if we are doing a big day out as a whole family we will sometimes choose a bigger backpack. But for 99% of the time it's perfect. I've heard OiOi and the Kmart nappy backpacks are good too.
