This is a compressor type which is better for use in warm humid climates. For cold humid climates a desiccant type works better.

    • It still works even during winter. I have 2 of them and it still pulls out over 10L a day.

Yes, but it's best to buy the correct type for what you're intended use is. The 'wrong' type will still work, but not as well and may have undesired consequences. For example a desiccant type works on heat, so using it in Queensland humidity doesn't help.

        • for what your intended use is

Spelling aside, what would you say is the correct type for Sydney weather?

          • @tenpercent: yea wondering the same…for sydney weather

          • @tenpercent: Ooh, I hate bad spelling and grammar. That must’ve been an autocorrect. Didn’t notice maybe typing on the phone.

I’m not overly familiar with Sydney, but it depends which season you find a problem. About 20 degrees is the crossover point. If you have winter humidity it makes it feel colder. Summer humidity (obviously) makes it feel warmer.

I’d guess summer is more of an issue there, so a compressor type. This brand is good and it’s suitable for a reasonably big room. It’s a good price. Check the susclimate site

    • Thanks for the reminder, guess dessicant it is for Melbourne

      • +2

Yes. I'm in Tassie and have one of each. Got the desiccant first and use it a lot in winter. It really helps warm the room up because lower humidity feels warmer. Then the heating doesn't have to work so hard. The compressor one I got just because it came up cheap. I think I've had on for two days in summer. That's one of the great things about Tassie, very few humid days.

      • We have one of each - desiccant mostly for winter and compressor for summer after the evap cooling has been running hard

    • Live in Melbourne and I've had a desiccant and a compressor. Both work but compressor extracts 3 times more water in a day however the compressor model was double the price. I'd pick a compressor any day even though the upfront cost is more expensive as it's faster and you'd make it up in electricity costs over a few years.

  • Is it noisy?

    • yes, a bit noisy, but acceptable.
i don't see any quiet dehumidifier in the market though…

    • They all have a few settings so you can run it on high at first till it gets to your target level of humidity, then turn it down to low. Bigger ones are louder. You can watch TV or sleep (with it on low) unless you're sensitive to fan noise.

      • Thanks, I already have the largest 50L Ausclimate dehumidifier and although it works really well, it is hella noisy even on low fan setting. Good to know the smaller ones are quieter.

        • Db ratings are on their site though it’s hard to tell what that really equates to

I think the camels might be incorrect.
Buywisely suggests Amazon had it for $210 4 months ago (presumably Black Friday). Although they don't have the current price correct (last updated 2 hours ago).
